    Thanks for the tour Amy. So my question is, How does the ole 4Runner do towing "The Old Bag"?

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does great. Both the Tacoma and 4Runner tow it great. The 4Runner almost feels better because of the predictable nature of the 5 speed auto. The trailer is under 3k lbs so it’s well within the 5k tow rating.

    And thanks to the old bag for being that star of today’s show. 😊

    So cool! I’ve never heard of the nw overland rally! Sounds like a blast. This is my first year taking the rig out with the kids camping. An rtt may be less practical but the memories for the kids sleeping in the “truck fort” is worth it. Your wife did a great job fixing up the trailer !

      Awesome and congrats! RTT are fun. I hope to get one of the superlights when GFC makes more.

    wow i am genuinely surprised overlanding was already that far along in 1998!

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah its funny how things change... and stay the same. Fancy overlanding trailers have a lot of the same features. This one isn't built for such things, but it makes a great base station.

    "The Old Bag" is such a great name! 😂 Nicely done! Hopefully, we'll get more Old Bag appearances in the future.

    I've been thinking of doing a project just like this for quite some time. Well done to Amy on this one, with *cough* your help of course Jason.

      Yeah this was 95% Amy's project. Turned out pretty awesome.

    Great video, and what a great trailer, thanks for sharing. Having had three different tent trailers over the years and my last one being a Coleman very much like that one. Seeing yours, or I should say your wife's makes me miss mine.

    How cool. 25 years old and still going strong.

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep! Beyond the roof having some cracks (that we fixed) it's held up well.

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Still original. Things like batteries, propane tanks have been swapped.

    I can’t thank you enough for your video. I am 72 and my husband is 79 years young and still camp with this exact trailer we bought 20 years ago. The main reason we upgraded our 1988 popup was that we wanted a heater. We didn’t need a lot of bells and whistles. Your ENTHUSIASM & ideas have CHANGED MY MIND, for now, about buying something else that is less work setting up. What is sold that can store in a garage, Aliners and Camp365, WON’T give us the same space inside, roof racks for 16’ kayaks and an awning directly over our door. This awning has held up in strong wind and allows the door screen and window screens to be used when it’s raining. Our Cheyenne doesn’t leak and owns us no money. We now use a power drill that my husband adapted to crank up the roof. Christine from NY 😊

    I love those tent campers. Coleman is a great product. And Sir, you have a great sense of humor. I love the beginning of the video. And the young lady did a great job. Great video. God bless you all.

    Adding to above comment. Our 20 year old Cheyenne is a 2001 model that is still going strong. My husband yearly touches up the outside metal with black paint. Except for boiling water we do all cooking outside on a separate table and DO NOT not put the stove in the grooves provided to the left of the door right next to the trailer. This is so we don’t attract bears to come inside.

      @@JasonExplainsThingshey, axle flips are a thing. Just need to re-weld the spring perch to the top of the axle and you can make room for much larger tires. 😉

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MukYJ Hmmmm... that would be pretty cool. We wouldn't have to use a drop hitch any more.

    I have a Coleman Niagara with a similar bar to lift the sink and cooktop into place…do you know the size of the parts used to make the rack that attached to the bar? I’d love to make something similar to help with storage! Thanks for all the great ideas

    • @JasonExplainsThings
      @JasonExplainsThings  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, it came with that rack when we got it. You might need to do some experimenting.

    I just purchased a 2023 4Runner and I plan on pulling my pop-up with it. Any useful tips or mods to my 4Runner would be much appreciated!

      Trailer brake controller. 👍. This is the one I use and it’s great. Very easy install as well. The wiring is already run… you just need to hook it up.
