3:30 Leather balls are really old, Rhett. Pig or sheep bladders are easy to tie off and inflate, so they may be the oldest but stitched and stuffed balls go back to at least the Egyptians. Maybe you're right though; maybe people first started playing catch with oranges or some similar fruit, then made a leather version for durability.
Actually, the rubber ball was invented by the Aztecs, when they made them to play a game similar to soccer, out of the sap from a tree, that's name translates to rubber tree. The sap created rubber that they shape into balls that they use in the game. Also, fun fact, some times they would use a human head from a sacrifice instead of the ball. And, it was very important to them to win because the losing team would be sacrifices to the gods. Sorry for throwing so much information in your face but I had a report due about the Aztecs for Spanish class and thought I should let you Know so you weren't in the dark about this subject. P.S. the ritual was done purely to please the gods not for fun, until someone later on in civilization thought it might be fun if no one was sacrificed and then it became a sport played for fun and for lots to be competitive and win something.
