Some interesting info here but way too many omissions and too much equivocation and euphemistic description of what were devasting consequences for those who rights, democracies, national sovereignty were violated by the CIA leading usually to resource theft or extreme labor exploitation, terror, deprivations of life and liberty on a large scale. I've read briefer descriptions of the CIA that give more context and more accurate portrayal and analysis than that delivered here. Couching the devastation caused by the CIA in such neutral terms as is done here ends up whitewashing and effectively excusing what this criminal mafiaesque agency has done rather than holding it accountable. Also, this nebulous idea of "imperial values" being motivational for agents of the CIA obscures that their operations were meant to result in material benefit for the ruling class on whose payroll those agents were on. Also anyone with enough information cant not honestly debate about whethdr the US is an empire or not. Without doubt it is the biggest empire the world has ever seen. There is also plenty of evidence to demonstrate that the 1950's were not peak CIA as the last two to three decades ( and even months) show. The agency is still hypocritically spreading western fascism , terrorism, authoritarianism, and unfreedom around the world.
