Excellent tutorial. Helped me to sort the issue I had with my TomTom, after buying a new battery. Thank you

    Many thanks for the tutorial.
That WAS a lot of force required; thank you for confirming that I was doing the right thing. My casing is mildly chewed. C'est la vie.
Perhaps you could provide a link to the double-sided tape required for re-assembly, please. My glass disconnected during the levering process !☺
But - the most important part of the video was showing how to disconnect the screen connector. Why? Because mine self-disconnected and I didn't require that stage !!! But I watched it in order to find out how to put that tiny, tiny connector back.
    It's alive !
... and we're off on our travels again.
    best wishes
    Derek

ps, with the double-sided tape, the screen is now unresponsive.

The tape should not affect the touch screen, are you sure the cables are fully seated?

Thanks for getting back to me.
The glue holding the screen to the screen surround - also secures the screen ribbon connector, just not any more !
I've just ordered a new outer screen.

Thank you for the tutorial! New battery installed and everything is functional again. The most difficult part, as you noted, is opening the cover of which is really hard to detach. My plastic scraper did not work so I had to use a pocket knife. I managed to dislodge the monitor cable which I had to reinsert manually in to its slot after replacing the battery. Aside from this all good!

Thank you for this one. I almost destroyed this part of the casing, with no success. At the end, I decided to use my Dremel to melt and cut the plastic, and it was the best decision (2mm depth, 10mm large). Than I was able to unclip everything, and remove the battery, which was swollen and was forcing on the screen.

Thanks for the insightful video. I cracked my screen though. 😢 DO NOT twist the prying device, only use a slide motion, with the cutting or back end of a mid-sized knife. Don’t rush it.

Thanks for the tutorial, been having issues with my 520 not receiving traffic updates which apparently could be down to the battery failing to hold charge? Either way I’ll try a new batter and go from there. Thanks 🙏

Very useful video. My god it was hard to do the clips. Only other thing worth noting is that the screen connection is at the same side as the start point to unclip, so you need to be careful not to pull that side too far open when going around the screen, and then flip up from the other side.

Great video, thanks. It made me realise I wasn't likely to break the case when trying as hard as I was to get it open. Wow those were the strongest clips I've come across!
Do you know if the tomtom 520 will power up without the battery in and getting power by USB? (my old one does but the 520 I am fixing doesn't) I just want to try and make sure something else isn't working befoer I order a battery for it. Thanks.

    • @WeRepair

@@WeRepair Thanks very much for your reply, and so quickly. I've just tried a normal (charged) 3.7v Li-ion flat-shape battery without the thermister wire and that didn't work, so it probably detects the missing wire as a fault. If you don't think it will work without a battery I'll take the plunge and order a proper replacement. If it doesn't work I'll just keep it for something else. Thanks again.

TomTom Go Professional 6200 HGV 6” sat nav opens from the bottom just like this with a metal pry tool to separate the clips. Make sure you pry between the back case and the grey surround, not the screen and grey surround. There is an indent where you start on the bottom centre.
The replacement battery is a VAFD 3.7v 1100mAh battery with 5 wires.
My replacement battery is labelled VF6P 3.7v 1100mAh with 5 wires and it fits fine and charges.
Time will tell how well the replacement holds charge compared to the original.
As you look at the screen, the LCD+touch panel screen cable is to the bottom right, opposite side to the battery on the left.
    Hope that helps someone.
