Google recently released a video showcasing Bard, which is powered by LaMDA, Google's language model for dialogue applications. However, during the demonstration, Bard provided an incorrect answer, causing Alphabet (GOOGL) shares to fall nearly 8% and losing $100 billion in market value.
In the advertisement, Bard is prompted with the question, "What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope can I tell my 9-year old about?"
Bard shoots off two accurate responses in a hurry. But the final answer was false. According to Bard, a telescope captured the first images of a planet outside of our solar system. According to NASA archives, the Very Large Telescope of the European Southern Observatory actually captured the first images of these "exoplanets."
