    I've always wanted a stock SilverWing. I had a buddy in VP-94 stationed and NAS New Orleans in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He had a CX-500 SilverWing. I was stationed at NAS North Island in Coronado, CA. I rode a Moto Guzzi(former Colorado State Patrol) bike out to visit him and other buddies stationed there. We had a great time.

      The crazy thing is this bike has a NAS New Orleans sticker on it.

      @@motorcyclerewind Yeah it would! I'm looking for a project to rebuild again. It's been a decade or two, but I used to bodge motorcycles constantly. I've rebuilt a KZ1000, a Mogo Guzzi V1000, a Ducati 450 Desmo, a Honda CL360, a Z1R(yes, really; found in a shop in Honolulu), and a Triumph 500. If you have any inexpensive ones give me a holler!

    Nice bit of '80's motorcycle manufacturer experimentation right there! I had a Yamaha XJ 650 Seca Turbo ('82 or '83, don't remember which one but mine was silver) and while it never lived up to the hype of "liter bike performance" it was a fun bike that made many trips between Los Angeles and San Francisco without a single hick-up. Looking forward to seeing this progress until it rides side by side with the GPz. I had an '84 GPz 550 also, so seeing you get another iconic '80's bike to bring back to life is especially entertaining.
    Eric, I also had an '82 Suzuki Katana, so maybe you could find one of those that needs a sympathetic refresh. 😁

    • @motorcyclerewind

    Very exciting project bike. I had heard of the CX500 Turbo with fuel injection and water cooled in 1982!!! Wow, was Honda ahead of there competitors in 1982? I don’t know about the other manufacturers. I’ll be watching! Is there many of those bikes to be found from that era? Thanks Don

    • @motorcyclerewind
      @motorcyclerewind  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, Honda was really ahead of their time. They filed for over 20 patents for this bike. They only made about 5000 worldwide in 1982. Only 2500 were imported to the US. After 42 years, who knows how many of those are still around. This is the only CX500 Turbo I’ve ever seen. In 1983 they came out with a CX650 Turbo, which they only made less 2000. We featured one of those on the channel last year. Thanks for watching.

    Your compression tester leaking down is probably the cause of its inaccuracy, but at least it's consistent. And having the same reading is much more important than the actual number - especially if it runs.

    Hey mate just like any cx500 they had problems with the mechanical seal at the back of the engine and if its been sitting for a while it will let you know if it's bad by leaking water from the seep hole, any problems I'm sure you can ask BJ, he's done a few

    Not magnets but to clear carbon brushes never have any qualitys but to conduct power to the segments on the armature to turn starter but if thay were magnets thay dont like being hit with hamers but plastic mallets lightly if this info helps please use to instruct others . Thay may not have the experiance you have and damage parts that didnt need replacing
