What many of you don't know is how this gig ended..Ronald threw a cymbal with the stand on the wall behind him and threw to the ground part of the gear of the percussionist..ending up breaking a microphone causing damage to the venue for several hundred euros. After the show he was literally on his knees on a side of the stage begging to the venue's manager for mercy after the manager told him he would no longer be accepted at the venue after that. The part where he throws the cymbal away is not visible because i stopped the video shortly before.

Unfortunately this is regular behavior for Bruner. He really has a piss poor reputation in MANY other cities for similar and/or worse behavior. It’s astounding that a legendary musical force like Kenny Garrett puts up with such an emotional infant in his band. How absolutely disrespectful to Kenny, the rest of the band and everyone else in attendance to act this way during a live performance. Bruner’s baggage is not worth the chops. Bruner obviously has “shock and awe” chops but he’s about the least musical drummer I’ve ever heard. There’s no subtlety in his playing, even when he’s not cussing out Rudy the percussionist and “having a bad night”. That’s my opinion, I’m sure some will disagree, I’d simply challenge those that do disagree to seek out the following. Contemporarily I’ve seen Kenny’s band doing basically this same material with a great drummer named McClenty Hunter and bassist Corcoran Holt who bring equal chops, but blow Bruner away with musicality, conversation, subtleties, and RESPECT. The energy those guys bring is it! And that’s because it’s all laid down on a foundation of respect where the music comes first. For fuck sake, go back and watch the Kenny Garrett Quartet live at Umbria with Kenny Kirkland, Jeff “Tain” Watts and Nat Reeves, a performance that literally gives me goosebumps and then fast forward to this crap. The idea that this behavior would just be excused because this guy has chops is laughable! Especially after watching the aforementioned Umbria concert for contrast. What a disgrace. Imagine how much ego it takes to completely ruin a Kenny Garrett performance. Amazing! Again, shocking that Kenny puts up with all the baggage Bruner brings to the stage and band. Watching Kenny Garrett playing keys in the background trying to ignore Bruner while he screams fuck and then throws a tantrum knocking over drums just hurts my soul to watch.. I also feel bad for everyone else in that band. Imagine traveling overseas and having to get in a bus or a plane or train with this special guy, no thanks!!! 🫥WOOF!!!!!!!!! 5:09 🤡

Here’s the thing. Some of the greatest artists in the history of our music come from hard places with little to nothing to claim as their own. Your character is your character regardless of where you come from or what you’re born with. Would Art Blakey have ever done this when he was Bruner’s age playing as a side man with Dizzy Gillespie or Horace Silver? The way he treats Rudy Bird, the percussionist initially helping him fix the cymbal stand, in this clip is wild. The display Bruner puts on in the video is just how he acts on stage. Believe me, I have personal experience dealing with this fool at a club when he was in my hometown for a festival a few years ago. He’s a complete loose cannon and a total asshole for no reason upon meeting him for the first time. He managed to offended just about every artist in my hometown, including me. Stories still circulate to this day from just about everyone I know. Again, imagine being on the road with this energy having to be around this 24/7. This isn’t an isolated incident. I won’t be surprised when we come to the day that someone puts him in his place and either beats his ass or worse. I don’t hope for that but he’s begging for it. Dude needs serious help and I hope he gets it the civilized way.

I love Bruner's Playing and I think he's up there to being one of the best in the modern age of drums.
The way I look at it is the same way is similar to how I see with Buddy Rich.
Both have pretty arrogant personalities and sometimes considered hostile, but I think it just ads to their greatness/legacy in a way
because they live up to their playing. Very few players can really live up to that.
What I find disrespectful and disingenuous is when someone talks down someone's playing and or musicianship to up and coming legends. (like when Bruner commented on Xavier Ware's drumming abilities) all because they feel entitled to Gatekeep for their ego

The Vegas production bands I was in would have seen him do this shit one time! He would have been removed from the roster and never heard of again. He had pedigree, so that keeps him in the loop of artists who want those chops, but somehow think this wont happen on their gig...apparently, it will. You simply do NOT trip out during the performance...live! Wow, dude!
