These fish farms take food from the ocean that otherwise would feed the eco-system that exist there. There is no free lunch. Someone has to pay for someone to gain. In this case, it is the life in the ocean paying for their profit. Those feed pellets come from massive skimmers that take the life off of the top 20 feet of life existing there. Then factory ships process it into feed to sell.
Don't forget he said the feed is very expensive. That's why.

and humans isnt part of that eco-system? this way of producing fish takes plant protein and fishproducts from fish that was earlier wasted as people would not eat them. No doubt it has to be improved even further, and it already is, but it's a great way of producing protein for human consumption

they said they used to release polluted water..me thinks the problem was not in the method, but in what they were using for feed..probably fish meal, or fertilized soy etc.? That run off water should be high in nutrients..other places throw it back into nearby farmland, a real circular economy biz if done right

that would still be uncontrolled nutriants going on to the ground all year around. a fertilizer is also a pollutant, if applied in the wrong season. using different water treatment processes in the water treatment, they can bind much of the ammonia nitrate and phosphor from the process in sludge, that can then be degassed and refined as fertilizer and applied at the right time

@@andreasnrgaard8064 I wondered, how they processed/cleaned the water? If phosforus was precipated with ferrocompounds (like sewage plants do), isn't it difficult to utilize as fertelizer for agriculture. The Fe3+ pond with PO4- is too tight for plant rootsystem to release?

@@jussiknaapi1164 usually it's bound by a ferric chloride so it's a difficult binding to utilise. However as far as I know, through the degassing and rotting process used in biogas plants, they can "free" the phosphor with enzymes

They do not put this behind the word eco-frendly.... Aquaculture takes the same path than agriculture. Technology and high inputs.
