Lovely explanation as always, thank you! Also thanks for leaving the text insert on long enough. I read fairly quickly in English but still not as fast as I do in German and there are many videos out there where I wonder how anyone is supposed to read that without hitting pause. This was very comfortable to read.
Ok, you made it look really easy, or approachable. I have taken to making my own bias binding, and fold the edge, stitch, then wrap due to such poor results with purchased bias. But I am going to follow this and see, the satin bias is so pretty, it ads a nice touch.🐸
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. I just used this technique to finish some shirtwaist dresses. I’d love to see a video for inseam pockets and a side zip if you need an idea for a future mini tutorial
Am I the only one that thinks GB sewing bee....( I'm from Boston Ma USA btw so I might be off the mark, but Sian has it all photogenic, likability, sewing chops.
Sian I love your dress as bias binding goes I have a love hate relationship with it I love it and it hates me lol watching how you have shown it may start to love me lol
Thanks for the great explanation. As I am a beginner can I ask do all patterns allow for cutting off that 3/8” around the armhole and then for the turns? I thought this might be more than what the patterns allows for?
Excellent, clear, concise and informative. Thank you. May I ask, which type would you recommend for going around baby clothes neckline and armholes please? x
Thank you. I have seen some jersey bias binding and someone said it’s more difficult to sew around the neckline etc (it’s the same bias fold that you use). I thought I could just fold it over so it’s narrower or trim it lengthways and sew the raw edges to get 2 thin strips out of it. It’s all new to me, I shall explore, thank you x
@@Sooz3112 if you want to bind a knit edge I wouldn’t use woven bias binding. I have got a video on putting in a jersey neckband and the same principle applies to arm holes 😊
Thank you for the tip about using a blind hem foot. It made a world of difference with getting it even and catching the edge!
This was the best tutorial on bias binding that I've ever seen. Thank you so much.
Best explanation about armhole binding. I really like the explanation about stitching 3/8 inches around armhole.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge so freely. Appreciated. I have been sewing for years but still learning!

This worked so much better for me than the other methods I tried! Thank you!

Great video !!!!! Thank you for taking the time to do these. Your videos are SPECTACULAR !!!!!!!!
I quite like having the binding showing. It can look pretty
Nia Evans oh definitely.... that’s another tutorial though 😉
Thanks Sian! I always wondered how I could finish the seam allowance along a zip - now I know! Half-circle skirt next - bias bound seams, of course!
You wouldn't need bias tape along a zip though, straight binding would work perfectly as no bending required (or wanted!).
OMG...this makes so much sense now for me, thanks you so much!!! Hope you enjoying your vacation!

th-cam.com/video/xL9fLHoooV0/w-d-xo.html I'm afraid I hate side zips so don't do them very often
Thank you so much you explained it beautifully!
This video was SO..... helpful for me. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial and so useful. Thanks Sian xx
Thanks again for a beautiful tutorial. You gave me some very good ideas for a fine finish.
Loved this. Such a pretty colour binding too.
Excellent tutorial!!! Great way to finish the seams. Giving it a go!!
Thanks sweetie 😍 love this tutorial .
Love the fabric
This was a great video! Thanks!
Good job, your method sorta surprised me.
As always: a great tutorial, thank you 😊

i just watched a whole series ( series 4) and candidates need to be amateurs. Sian is a professional .... ah well.
Love this technique!💞
Thank you so very much!!!😀

This method works for a pattern with 5/8" seam allowance. You can adjust for patterns with different seam allowances.
Brilliant, thank you
Very nice job
great video! Would love to have seen you do this on a V neck. Mine looks terrible!!😅
OOOooh! Great idea! I will add it to the list :)
@@KittenishBehaviourSian lovely! thank you for replying.

I’d use something soft or binding made from the same fabric as the garment 😊

Thank you. Ah yes, jersey wouldn’t really trim very well, it’ll roll at the sides I’m guessing. I’ll check out your video-thank you x

Can you do the final step without topstitching?
