- How to Install dll and instruments files in FL Studio
Sometimes you may only have a .dll file and possibly a .instruments file when downloading a new VST for FL Studio... and you're like "WTF am I supposed to do with these?" No worries! This tutorial will show you how to "install" them. It's literally just dragging them to the right folder and scanning for new plugins in FL Studio.

Either this tutorial is out of date, my computer is weird, or something about how FL installs has changed. The folder "VSTPlugins" does not seem to exist, it isn't in program files and I can't find it anywhere else. It also isn't listed as one of the file paths in the plugin manager. Placing the dll file in Image-Line > FL Studio 21 > Plugins > fruity > generators will let fl find the plugin but it won't open. It might be because it's a win32 vst? I'm not sure. If anyone has any fixes I need some help.
i have the same issue. except he plugin i 32 bit plugin i downloaded (autotune)
has a text file named GVSTLicense. no sign of a vst3 file only .dll
is it fixed?

bro great tutorial but for some reason i dont have the Vstplugins folder in program files. any solution? (i also reinstalled fl stduio but still had the problem)

thanks man! i installed 2 zip type plugins and i thought they had an EXE file inside but it had a DLL instead.
My FL won't install with a "Vstplugins" folder. I've uninstalled and re-installed half a dozen times. I've tried installing into the fruity folder, custom folders, but nothing. It shows the path program files\image-line\fl studio 21\plugins\VST\ but, when I select the path from the plugin manager, it just sends me to program files\image-line. It shows the path existing, but it seemingly doesn't. I can't find the path any other way either. If I drop .dll files into any of the folders here, they literally don't even show up in the file explorer, though it says they're there. I'm at my wits' end here. This computer is literally brand new, just unboxed it yesterday and the copy of FL is legitimate, not cracked. I'm not trying to install dodgy plugins either, one I'm trying to install is Dimension Expander by Xfer Records. Even with the installer, it won't pickup that VST. So far, it's only picked up Serum, OTT, and Ample Bass II. Any suggestions?

Do you know how to fix if you dragged the wrong sample folder into your vst... because I got the free yojo vst and the X-eight vst but mistakingly put yojo file in X-eight now I don't know how to put the correct sample folder in... I've tried everything can you help me

So if I download a vst, and I cant open it in fl studio because a DLL file is missing in the vst folder, will I drag the DLL files? Please suggest something.

Thanks for the tutorial. I have a question. When I put a folder containing a .dll file in one of the routed folders that are listed in 'Manage plug-ins', it won't show up on the list. Also won't show up when I restart FL studio. I haven't gotten a .vst3 file in the download, is that mandatory for it to work?

Huh... maybe it has to do with the default folders FL Studio searches for VSTs. Likely a file path issue.

Hmmmm… not sure I don’t have Windows 11. A program like WINRAR or 7-Zip should do the trick.

Hey, I encountered a problem. Whenever I download a VSTi plugin (for example MODO Bass, and I've been looking for a decent and cheap electric guitar VSTi but no luck), firstly usually they are downloaded in the form of .rar file (because Windows 11 doesn't automatically download them as zip folders). I then compress the .rar folder to a zip one, and then I extract to any of the VST locations on FL Studio. But when it finishes extracting, it isn't automatically made into the right file format (dll). Please help me.
Also, what's the difference between VST2, VST3 and plain VST?

There was a big improvement made with VST3 where it only reads the audio signal, instead of using CPU to process everything...
Electric Guitars... There's a couple of good free ones, depending if you want something clean or something distorted.
Clean - check out Spitfire's Peel guitar
Distorted - check out Shreddage 3 Stratus
And finally - you may need a program like WinRAR to unzip RAR files directly.

hi there, question for ya, Ive been having the issue of QuickFontCache.dll not found when I try to open FL, Ive downloaded both the 32 and 64bit files and rebooted, FL Still doesnt work.. Any recommendatiosn? Thanks !!

@@Zenaro66 Check the video at 2:10…. Manage plugins shows all the file paths it’s using to access plugins. It just has to be in one of those folders
