    • @baroneb5043
      @baroneb5043 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zak Man a spin kick is part of MMA... NOT intentionally trying to permanently injure your opponent by specifically attacking the knee joint fully aware that you will most likely do permanent damage to your opponent.... so by your logic eye pokes, ( which Jones does ) eye gouges, biting, pulling hair, tearing someones ear off, groin strikes should all be allowed

    • @zakman9209
      @zakman9209 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@baroneb5043 so does a knee kick wtf you talking about, plus cte is real and can be way worse than having a bad knee, not cause you cant see the damages right away means it's safer
      I think you guys have a problem with the intention behing the knee attacks rather than the real consequences

    • @baroneb5043
      @baroneb5043 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zak Man CTE is real no question about it.... however every fighter makes the conscience decision to go fight fully aware of the potential negative side effects of repeated head trauma. Your point, arguement makes ZERO sense... You are basically saying that Thompson saying he doesnt agree with knee strikes is hypocritical because Thompson kicks his opponents in the head....

  • @michaelcarag1652
    @michaelcarag1652 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's called an oblique kick because the power generating "through" the hips comes "from" the obliques.
    Originally the kick came from the rear leg, like a cross, landing on the knee turning your rear leg, pushing through with your hips turning the rear leg into your lead leg.... power coming from the turn & pushing your hips from your oblique.

    • @THIS---GUY
      @THIS---GUY 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Caryoh made all of that up oblique is in reference to the trajectory of the kick. A side kick is side ways while an oblique kick is at an oblique angle. Wtf are you talking about ahaha 😂

    A really useful tool is that rear leg oblique kick to the shin and calves. It doesn't cause as much damage but really messes with movement and timing and is extremely easy to learn.
    That being said, I'd say that everyone should learn the oblique kick for self defense because it's easy to learn, doesn't require much flexibility, and flows naturally even for non fighters and it's gonna stop or at least slow down any non experienced attacker a lot. You don't need to use it in spareing, though I think the shin and upper thigh versions should be used then, but you absolutely should train it for self defense.

  • @jerryanguiano6179
    @jerryanguiano6179 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Not sure if anyone has clarified but I assume they call it the oblique kick because of the Vastus Medialis Oblique which is the quad muscle that extends the knee.

    What do you think about the Taekwondo version of the cut kick for this? Basically a sliding front leg side kick. In Taekwondo because of the rules this would be aimed at the upper portion of the hip at the bottom part of the pad in order to stop an incoming kick. These were really popular for so many years that people were leaving their leg up to counter kicks until they changed the rules to disallow such behavior.

    Stephen, the "oblique" part of the name refers to the angle of the kick's trajectory, not to the part of the opponent's body as a target. It goes down and out on an oblique angle.

    JON JONES WON In my eyes, Jon Jones knew Dominick Reyes was going to bring in every tool he has. Jon Jones kinda tested them tools to see how they was, and like Jon said he felt them, And Dominick Reyes couldn't keep it up till the end like a heart of a champion. At the end of 2nd there was no more tools Jon slowly pick him apart. I wish there was no judge or time. But the judge rule it to Jon. Dominick Reyes Wasn't the champion so you can't run from the champion at the last moment of rounds. You need to prove your the champion well heart of the champion. Jon Jones prove that IT WAS 2-2 5th round Jon took the heart of the champion and keep everything going not Slowly run the clock out because you have no tools left But fair play to Dominick Reyes. I love you too buddy

    Jon won. He control the octagon and put pressure almost the entire fight minus a couple of resets where he ran backwards. And Jon dominated the grappling and wrestling aspect. I don't know why this win is such a controversy. Reyes already started gassing in the second.

    I find that when I use this kick in sparring, It usually makes my opponent Almost fall forward with their upper body first towards me. leaving their head open to my hook or cross for a split second
    But if I time it right (especially when opponent is coming forward) it’s gold.
    I aim for the mid Thigh. Doesn’t hurt as much the knee but it forces a slip up, opens up defences

I'm personally really hoping for that rematch though. I definitely think it's gonna be tougher this time around for WB, but I still think it'll be a great fight.

    It’s a sidekick. Just one more version. I’ve taught it for 40 years. Even as a check to an aggressive opponent without a chamber, it can do damage. Also to hip. Timing it so your opponent impales himself on it. Never used with intent when sparring.
