40k Primaris Overlord Gunship Scratch Build!

- n this video I scratch build my own (ENORMOUS!) Primaris Overlord Gunship.
It can transport a land raider within its transport bay!!
It has interior LED lighting!
It is armed to the teeth!
It is my Magnum Opus!
Seriously though, check it out if you enjoy 40k scratch builds. It has a wingspan of 30 inches, a length of 20 inches and a height of around 6.5 inches.
Below are a couple of my other videos that relate to this one:
If you are interested in seeing my first (far inferior) attempt at making an overlord from a child’s toy, check this out:

remember when Games Workshop advertised scratch build models and showed tutorials for the players . awesome work my dude
Thank you mate, I really appreciate it. It’s good for morale as these builds take a lot of work! Cheers 🙏
i have some of those tutorials still
Yup remember when they said they would release old white dwarf mags online people got excited to see the old builds and they removed them and even photos of kitbashed models from the digital releases ha
I remember.
I had deodorant grav tanks & chopped up zoids. Yes, I've painted/played for that long
@@gregs7562 i think gw stated in the deodorant bottle tank article in white dward that they couldn't keep doing that because of licensing and copyright which sucks but makes sense
Seeing what you can make from card boxes, lego and spare bits NEVER fails to amaze me.
😅 I’m just a cheapskate who doesn’t want to pay forgeworld prices! 😄 so cardboard boxes it is! Thanks so much for taking the time to tune in and give me some feedback! 👍
Possibly one of the most accurate interpretations of the Overlord that I have seen.
Thank you 🙏 I tried to take some of the information that has been hinted at in the lore, then put my own spin on it. This is how I imagine them to look but I think there are probably better interpretations out there (like offbeat’s version) as ever, things are a bit rough and ready on this channel! Thanks so much for tuning in brother 👍
This is an incredible build that looks right in place with GW designs for Space Marine aircraft. It's clunky, bulky, more flying tank than dropship. And it's a design philosophy I, and GW, seem to love. The skill and creativity involved in making this is amazing. Very well done.
You are very kind good Sir, thank you for the feedback and for taking the time to watch! 🙏
That is, without doubt the tankiest box of dog food I've ever seen.
🤣 certainly is! Thanks for watching mate 👍
Love the build. I scratch build all kinds of Ork vehicles. Bring back scratch building for our wargames
Thanks! I had so much fun with this project, I’d recommend a good bit of scratch building to anyone! 🙂 thank you for watching 🙏
Without slightest doubt or hesitation, that one and another your video about building a carrier like Overlord - are absolute cinema, the art and passion as well as talent and sharpness of the concept... well you left me speechless. Breathtaking 👏👏👏
You are very kind. Thank you for the feedback and I am pleased that you enjoyed the videos! Thanks for watching my friend! 👍
I was very dubious about this at the beginning seeing the glued together boxes but I LOVE the final product!
😄 I can understand that! Thanks for bearing with the video and seeing it through. I’m glad you like the final result!
the wonkiness and funniness of it is what makes it perfect. i bet you dont really see a shoebox shaped gunship that is twice as big as a B-17 bomber around the imperium everyday😂. jokes aside, i really love it. especially the guns and paint on the aircraft. it just screams "flying fortress" vibes
Thank you mate for the kind feedback. Yes, it certainly is one gigantic flying shoebox! 🤣 I’d actually love to see more creators have a go at making an Overlord. It’s so interesting seeing how different people imagine it with the limited info we have. Thanks for taking the time to watch! 👍
When a scratch build 40k vehicle looks like a GW model kit costing 200 Euro's. amazing work!
Thank you 🙏 I appreciate the kind feedback and thanks for tuning in!
Holy crap lego hinges!? You're a genius! I used dollhouse door hinges on my landraider, wayyyyy more finnicky than lego would've been.
Seriously man, Lego is awesome for 40k scratch builds! ✊ Thanks for watching mate 👍
It's incredible! I love all the interior details ^^
Thanks! I was determined that it would have a proper interior! Thank you for watching 🙏
Excellent scratch-bashing. The interior lights are a very cool touch.
Thank you mate, I appreciate you checking in and I’m glad you liked it! Cheers 👍
This is so fucking awesome. I love all the ships you took as inspiration individually(though i prefer Slingshot retrieval boat from the animated starship troopers series to the Viking) but seeing all of them combined into this monster of a dropship is just incredible.
Thank you mate, I’m really pleased you like the results! It’s kept me quite busy for the last few weeks! 😅 thanks for taking the time to tune in and comment 👍
Absolutely fantastic build! I admit, I was genuinely surprised by how good it turned out; and - given this is for the faction whose tanks are literally "brick" and "flying brick," I think the angular design fits perfectly.
Also, I gotta admit: I'm impressed with that storage capacity.
Thank you mate, yes I can definitely do bricks! 😄 I’m glad you like it and I’m happy you like the amount of storage! I’m basically a big kid and I thought “what would so want to play with when I was a kid?” And basically went from there 🙂 thanks for watching 👍
@@maddokminis It's dang impressive and definitely gives me things to aspire to!
A thousand classic Lego fan's just screamed and shat them selfs.
🤣🤣 THE KRAGLE!!
That's brilliant, mate. Imagination is extremely important . Cheers
Thank you very much, that’s what I keep telling my kids! Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment 👍
Fantastic work! This is one of the best scratch builds I’ve seen. I love the interior bay details. And the lighting switch hidden under the turret is a genius idea.
Thank you, getting kind feedback like this really does make it all worthwhile! 🙂 this one kept me busy for a long time! I’m really pleased you enjoyed it mate and thanks for watching 👍
Using this dog food box implies there's a Mag Dog of Mad Dok Minis.
Nice scratchbuild.
Indeed there is! Jeb the jack Russell! 😄 thank you for the kind feedback my friend 👍
Damn you have the touch it looks incredible🙌🙌
Yes I am the cardboard box charmer! 😄 thanks for watching mate, I really appreciate the positive vibes 🙏
Absolutely fantastic work! Love the design, and the old school feel.
Thank you mate, I’m very happy to be earning the title of ‘old school’ - sums up how I feel about Warhammer 🙂 thanks for watching 🙏
That is just brilliant model making I now wish I had one you are a legend sir
You are very kind mate and I’m really glad you like it. I’m really glad I knuckled down and got this one done! Thanks for the support 🙏
That's really cool, I've never scratch built anything that big.
Thank you! It was a bit of an undertaking but definitely worth the effort in the end 🙂 thank you for watching 🙏
Very impressive scratch build! I wouldn't be surprised if it inspired, or at least informed, the design of an official product. Good work!
😄 well now, there’s a thought! ✊Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and for providing positive feedback! 👍
very much starship troopers vibes, in a good way. Great job on the build!
Would you like to know more? 😉 thank you mate I will definitely wear that badge with pride! ✊ thanks for watching 👍
That's ace, love how you can fit a proteus in it 🤩 would be ace if the guys at white dwarf could feature such a beast
Thank you mate 👍 I have to admit that I was really happy that it was able to carry the Proteus inside! 🙂 I somehow think that WD would tell me where to go if I submitted it to them 😄 thanks for watching!
So cool. Full send.
Thank you for the support! 🙏
Man, every time I watch one of your builds like this, it takes me back to the days of pouring over White Dwarf grainy images of studio scratch builds, and I mean that in the best sense - 10-year-old me repurposing toys and letting my imagination run riot, such a joy to revisit. In my own hobby journey I've always been afraid to deviate from "official" GW models, so watching you build things is an absolute pleasure. Keep up the great work, such a criminally under-subbed channel...
You are very kind good Sir. I’m really glad you like the results and it is genuinely great to hear that my content transports you back to those glorious times (which I also remember fondly) thanks so much for the positive vibes and for taking the time to watch 🙏
Out-freaking-standing! That ship is a beautiful thing, you really knocked it out of the park!
That’s very kind mate and I’m glad you think she’s good looking! thank you for watching 🙏
A really cool dropship, and I love the scratch build!
I love scratch building and kitbashing myself as I can make everything how I want it. My number of tournament legal imperial guard models is quite low, but my number of cool conversions ready for the worst the Galaxy can throw at them is extraordinarily high!
Thank you mate, glad you liked the final results 🙂 I’m really pleased with it myself! Thank you for taking the time to tune in! 👍
You never fail to blow me away. Totally inspirational old-school build in the best possible way.
Thank you mate! I’m really happy you like it and I’ll definitely take the old school label and wear it with pride! ✊ thanks for watching! 👍
this is incredible! It's awesome that with some imagination and cardboard you can make something like this
That is very kind, I really appreciate the positive feedback mate. Thanks for watching 🙏
Just stumbled across your channel and I love it. Really has the spirit of modeling that pulled me into 40K, in the wayback. Wonderful stuff.
Yep it’s a little old school over here 😄 thank you for giving the channel a look in and for your kind feedback! 👍
while watching, I found myself saying aloud "aw yeahhhhhh that looks GREAT" multiple times, particularly when you added the storm wolf bits to the engine bells, and the mini thrusters in the triangular corner space.
incredible work, and I am so stoked to start scratch building again! I should also mention that this is the first time I've come across your channel, and I instantly subscribed based on the first minute alone. I absolutely love your energy, and I'm so excited I get to see more from here on out 🥰
That is so great to hear! I really do appreciate the support and this kind of feedback really makes these projects worth while! I’m so happy if this helps in any way to get you stuck into scratch building again. Thank you so much for the sub (the channel is still small enough for me to notice each one). Thanks for watching and welcome aboard! ✊
Absolutely fantastic! I love the final result with all the little details like the troop bay, you knocked it out of the park again.
Thank you mate, I always appreciate hearing your thoughts and appreciate you taking the time to watch. I’m glad you liked the final results! Cheers 🙏
cardbard bawkses have no right lookin that good👍
Damn them boxes are sexy! 🤣 thanks for watching mate 👍
Love it! Welcome to "Oldhammer": Hoover Tanks from shampoo bottles, tanks from old scrap metal boxes, Killa Cans from...well...cans (somehow Orks always get it right XD )
😄 thank you mate! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment 👍
@@maddokminis I mean I would take your stuff over the old Forgeworld every time: It is friggin cardboard and still seems to be by far less wonky and wobbly.... and also: Trying to fit Lego, plastic bottles and cardboards together looks like fun. Trying to fit bend FW resin together - well...I guess there goes my will to live 🤣🤣🤣
@@ShrimpFarmerFromUranus🤣🤣 I know right! When you consider what forgeworld stuff costs as well, it’s not really good enough TBH. This whole build probably cost me less than $50. I don’t think that’s too bad for something this enormous! 👍
Simply an epic build, such a great job! Thank you for sharing.
You are most welcome! I’m really happy you enjoyed it! Thanks for taking the time to watch! 🙏
Tip for cutting Lego straight. If you put another Lego on top it’s a ready made guide you can brace your saw against
Great little tip! Thanks for watching mate 👍
MADAFAKINYEAH levels are skyrocketing. This project ended up being legendary. Well done.
Thank you mate, I really appreciate the positive vibes! It really helps my motivation with big projects like this! Thank you for watching 🙏
@ ma pleasure.
Be proud of your work, you nailed it so far !
An amazing build, very inspiring
Thank you for the kind words brother 🙏 I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment 👍
Looks like a larger Corvus black star nice 👍 the black star is easily the best aircraft GW makes
Yes I certainly think the Blackstar is the darling of the space marine flyers 🙂 there have been hints that the Overlord is supposed to resemble it so I ran with that! Thanks for watching 👍
Awesome work. Finally the algorithm rewards me with something good
😄 I hoping the algorithm also rewards me too! - it seems to be! 🤞 thank you for the kind feedback and for watching! 👍
@maddokminis love the transport you built. I normally build Ork stuff, it's very forgiving.
Looks like this was a lot of fun to design and build. Well done. Great job. Lighting is very cool
Thank you! I’m glad I followed through with the lighting as I nearly didn’t! 😅 thanks for taking the time to watch mate 👍
AWESOME!!!
Thanks mate 👍 glad you liked it, I’ve been a busy boy with this one! 😅 thank you for watching!
@@maddokminis no problem man, better to watch this kind of content then crap about Politics
That looks amazing and totally in-universe!
Thank you? I’m glad you think so 🙂 thanks for watching 👍
For being made out of cardboard boxes, it turned out pretty dang good. Looks like its on par size wise with the Tau Manta.
Yes it is quite large! 😄 thank you for tuning in and commenting mate 🙏
I was really dubious about this and was thinking "he surely cant pull it off?"
However, colour me surprised looks really good.
Id be proud to enjoy a game with this model.
Frankly this kinda enthusiasm is amazing and you are an inspiration.
I can already see this being grand as part of a set piece game.
Something like an evacuation scenario
I love that idea! 👍 thank you for the kind feedback and for bearing with my building process! 😄 I really appreciate you taking the time to watch!
@maddokminis honestly it was an absolute pleasure to watch. Seeing scraps become something to be proud of is an achievement.
New favourite channel
Absolutely awesome build. You must have an amazing bits collection.
Thank you and yes I do! Built up over many years! 😄 I’m glad you like it and thank you for taking the time to watch 👍
It’s always amazing to me how your builds just suddenly come together after you prime them! Fantastic as always
Thank you mate, I’m happy you enjoyed the results! Thanks for watching 👍
This one is one lf your best excellant, little too boxy at the rear, and the business of parts around cockpit transitions possibly to quickly to simple panel details, that said i love this well done
Thank you mate - glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 🙏
outstanding end product, great work
That’s very kind, thank you for taking the time to tune in and comment 🙏
That's a dam fine build their. Great imagination , and a fine paint job to ..
Thank you good Sir! 🙏 I appreciate the positive feedback and thanks for taking the time to watch! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Absolutely brilliant, thank you!
You are most welcome good Sir! Thanks for taking the time to watch 🙏
super cool build, the paint realy brings it together.
Thank you mate and yes it is incredible what a bit of paint can do to a scratch build! Always satisfying doing the priming! Thank you for watching 🙏
I feel like it needs some extra bolter turrets directly above the front hatches because of the flat sections haha. Awesome model mate!
Might interfere with air intakes - don’t know why I’m worried as there is no way in hell this thing would fly anyway!! 🤣 thanks for watching bud 👍
Absolutely awesome build! Love all the extra touches and attention to details like the interior, landing gear and thrusters!
Brilliant work dude, really enjoyed the build/video 😅❤️👍🏻
Thank you for the kind feedback mate, I wanted it to look like it might actually be able to deliver some space marines! Hopefully I achieved close to this 😅 thanks for much for taking the time to watch 🙏
Wow!!!! Can’t believe some boxes and pieces became so awesome!!! Love the build 😊😊😊
Thank you! 🙏 It was very satisfying seeing it come together. Thank you for tuning in 👍
@@maddokminis you are very welcome 🤗
I love the design. It definitely feels like a heavy support ship. the lights and detail inside, sell it for me. This earned a sub from me, CHEERS!!
Thank you for the kind comments and for the sub! I really do appreciate the support! I’m so glad I filled through with the internal lights, it really adds something special 🙂 Thanks for tuning in!
Make that CANNON for the games, just AMAZING.
😄 thank you brother 🙏 I’m glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much for taking the time to watch!
Honestly, it's fantastic work mate. Considering the humble materials you start with (I mean, come on guys, he makes this out of toothpaste boxes!) the end result is quite frankly stunning. A real classic example of what can be achieved with a persistence of vision, determination, and the drive to follow a project through to completion. Well done my friend, consider me subscribed and I look forward to what else you decide to scratch build down the line. 🙏
Thank you mate, I really appreciate your kind feedback and yes it’s not bad for a pile of boxes! 😄 thank you very much for the Sub, my channel is still small enough for me to notice when each new person joins or one drops out! Thanks for taking the time to watch brother 🙏
@maddokminis any time 😉
That turned out fantastic.
Thank you! Thanks also for tuning in! 🙏
Honestly....... that is awesome😁😁. As someone else said, when that primer goes on, she comes to life. I also like that you gave yourself wiggle room with the naming 😁. I also admire your bravery in cutting up lego, not sure I could do that lol
Thank you mate for your very kind feedback and I’m really glad you enjoyed watching this unfold! As for the Lego - I always buy (cheaply) the bits I need rather than raid my actual Lego collection (another passion of mine!). However, chopping it up and glueing it together does still feel sac religious! THE KRAGLE! 😄 thanks for taking the time to watch! 🙏
It looks great, really awesome job there! I started working on a ork tank recently, wish me luck lol
I hope Gork (or possibly Mork) smiles down on your Orky creation! Good luck and many thanks for taking the time to watch my video! 👍
That is flipping outstanding! Well done!
Thank you mate, it’s not quite as refined as some other peoples attempts at an overlord but I am pleased with the overall look and feel 🙂 thanks for watching bud 👍
@maddokminis don't put yourself down, it's awesome and would take pride of place in any army.
Thanks mate I appreciate it 🙏
Amazing job, their was another person who did an overlord build. My only problem with this one is the cardboard being visible on certain angles, you can see the banding on the edges. perfect build however and looks like it has massive table presence.
Yes it’s definitely a rough and ready scratch build and I had to lean Into that a bit as there is only so far these materials can get you. I’m glad you like the design mate and appreciate the kind feedback. The secret with this one is not to look too closely! 😉😄 thanks for watching!
God damn,
I'm sure you could build a manta ship out of cardboard as well :D
Gosh, I’m not good with curvy vehicles - it would be a cool challenge though! 🤔 thanks for watching 👍
Incredible work. Love it. Earned yourself another subscriber
Thank you mate and I really appreciate the sub! Thank you for the support! 👍
That is a superb build! Well done
Thank you mate 🙏 thanks for watching!
Very nice and some great ideas here - lego engines and hinges in particular. Probably best not to use hemorrhoid cream boxes for your builds in future though......! 😊
Can’t tell if you are kidding but they would be pretty gigantic boxes for haemorrhoid cream!! 🤣🤣 Biofteeze and Fisiocrem - you definitely wouldn’t want to be applying either of those on the old old starfish! 😱😱😱I’m a physical therapist so go through lots of muscle rubs and gels 🙂 thank you for taking the time to watch and comment mate and I’m glad you liked it 🙏
@maddokminis 😂 I was kidding!
great model, congratulations on the idea.
Thank you mate I really appreciate it and thanks for taking the time to tune in and check it out! 👍

Thank you mate, I was a bit worried it was too boxy but then it is a space marine aircraft! 😄 Thanks for watching 👍
Amazing my friend!!!.... I don't have the bits to make any projects like this (being a single poor custodian of my sisters 3 children) but i aim and am trying to gather sufficient 40k greebles to be able to "tie in" a build like this myself, I currently kitbash characters and figures but My ultimate aim is to be able to make some form of 40k kitbash vehicle diorama and I always love watching what you achieve again AMAZING sir... and above all Thank-you and love to you and yours
Thank you so much for your kind feedback mate. I’m really happy that you enjoyed the video and I hope you manage to gather enough bits for your project 🙂 thanks for taking the time to tune in and provide feedback brother 🙏
I really like that. It just works

Absolutely amazing!
Thank you! 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it!
Great work with this!
When I saw the cardboard frame I thought oh no this is gonna be a bit dodgy, but the end result is really good! Got a unique looking shape whilst retaining the boxy marine flyer silhouette nicely.
Saw Offbeat Builds' take on the Overlord, but I really like this version of it to, its cool to see how differn't peoples takes on a vehicle with only a description to go off of :D
Thank you brother 🙏 I appreciate you taking the time to tune in. There’s no doubt that this is a rough and ready build (particularly in comparison to offbeat) but I am MUCH happier with it compared to my previous attempt using the large toy as a base. Thanks for bearing with the process and aim really glad you like it mate 👍
@@maddokminis The process is pretty rough but the end result REALLY doesn't look like it atall, you did a great job :D
Awesome build. Such good bitz collection you have there.

Those Biofreeze boxes give your age away and mine for recognizing them lol. It is good stuff. Enjoyed this video and a new subscriber.
😄 well I go through more of it than most - I’m a physical therapist! Thank you so much for the support and welcome aboard!
great job would love to see you tackle the og art of the stormbird
Thank you mate, I think an original stormbird would potentially be massive at 40k scale - but when has that ever stopped me… 😄 thanks for watching!
17:51 awesome work. Personally, the design from 40K is to square and blocky, your’s adds more design elements that makes it more realistic.
That’s a big compliment and I’ll take it! 😄 thank you for taking the time to watch and provide some feedback 🙏
Absolutely amazing brother! It looks fantastic 👍. Makes me want to build another 40k aircraft too hehe.
Thank you for the support brother 🙏 I’m glad you liked it. I really tried to push myself a bit on this one! 😅 I really appreciate you tuning in mate!

this is so, so, so cool. damn.
Thank you 🙏glad you like it!
The only thing i can think of to make this better is to bring the main fuselage forward a bit. Its lookin a lil stumpy. But hey, it still looks damn cool!!
I did mess around a bit with that but it just didn’t really look right (to me 😅) thank you for tuning in mate and for taking the time to give feedback 👍
Tails could use some iconography, and may be some more tactical markings. Overwise reaaly cool job!
Agreed, my wife didn’t have much time to photoshop and print the icons for me so I had to make do 😄 thanks for watching 👍

But where are all the skulls...? I smell heresy
Absolutely phenomenal work, I never would've imagined you could make a body out of cardboard. Just don't get it wet
I know - I tend to champion a ‘grimdark light’ aesthetic! 🤣 so hardly any skulls! As for the cardboard, it’s pretty well protected now with various layers of paint but yes I wouldn’t want to store it in a very damp environment! I was sweating a bit applying my characteristic shower of Nuln oil at the end!! 😰😄 thanks for watching! 👍
Wow looks awesome!
Thanks mate, glad you like it! Thank you for watching 👍
