I have the same water butt and connected a hose pipe from thx tap to irrigate plants but the water has stopped flowing through the hose, even though butt is full of rainwater ???? Any ideas?

It depends on how high the plants are in relation to the base of the butt. Water flows down (gravity) but sometimes the amount of water still in the hosepipe may "equalise" the pressure from the butt, so water stops flowing. I had that before when I tried to fill the pond with rainwater, using the hosepipe and the pipe was below the base of the butt, but strangely, it did not "empty" the butt. For that, I will figure it out somehow. :)
