  • The Guro people of central Ivory Coast, who speak the Guro language, have a traditional dance known as the zaouli. It is believed that Michael Jackson copied some of his amazing moves from Zaouli Dance.
The Zaouli mask, which is used in the dance, was allegedly inspired by a young woman named "Djela Lou Zaouli" (literally, "Zaouli, daughter of Djela") in the 1950s.Every Guro village has a native Zaouli dancer (always a man), who performs at festivities and funerals.
The dance is regarded as a weapon of unification for the Guro community and, by extension, the entire nation. It is thought to boost the production of the hamlet in which it is performed.‪@alindadeo‬
