France actually did expect Germans to go around it.
The problem is that they couldn't extend the Maginot line to the coast due to objections from Belgium, Luxemburg and the Netherlands as extending the line would actively throw those nations under the bus as France would then have no motivation to defend them at all, so there was heavy international opposition to it and so France opted not to extend the line.
Soooo, yeah....
And the deciding factor in why it didn't work, was because the Germans were moving incredibly fast and aggressively without resting for days, which was made possible by the new concept of armour use and massive amounts of drug pills
France and Britain did have access and have given their soldiers similar drugs.
The deciding factor why France was overrun with or without the Maginot Line was that the French army was complacent and badly equipped.

another point was Belgium becoming neutral before WW2. The plan of the maginot line was to have a "strong" defensive line (border of France) and a "soft" one along the belgian rivers. But the neutrality made the plan uneffective.

8:12 The French and British did expect the Germans to repeat the WW1-era Schlieffen Plan, so they planned to move forward into Belgium and establish another defensive line along the Meuse and Dyle. Unfortunately, the Germans concentrated most of their tank forces in the Ardenne, an area most on the allied side considered impassable for tanks, and was thus defended only by local Belgian forces, most of whom received the order to withdraw. The only resistance the Germans found in the Ardennes was two Belgian companies that somehow didn't receive the order the rest of their division did to retreat to the Meuse-Dyle line. Unsurprisingly, the Germans arrived at Sedan not long after.
funny enough it wasnt "somehow", it was because German paratroopers destroyed infrastructure and cut all the comms to these Belgian companies. Thus preventing them from receiving orders to retreat

Don't leave out the part that the allied commanders were partially right, as German tanks were stuck in the Ardenne for a few days, with a French reconnaissance plane spotting them. When the reconnaissance plane reported it to their commanders, they were dismissed because they didn't Believe it.
Further more, the German push through the Ardenne wasn't accompanied by air due to it being a secret, leaving them vulnerable to bombing.
White Feather also means something else in the US Military. The white Feather aka Carlos Norman Hathcock II was a US Marine sniper during the Vietnam War. He has a confirmed kill count of 93 and an unconfirmed kill count of 300. He was born in Arkanas in 1942, where he'd go hunting with a single shot .22 caliber rifle when he was a kid. At age 17 in 1959, he enlisted in the USMC. He got marksman training at Camp Perry, a US Army Base located in between Toledo and Cleveland, Ohio in Northern Ohio, which has one of the largest outdoor shooting ranges in the world. He also won marksmanship competitions. He arrived in Vietnam as a military police officer, but quickly became a sniper. His weapon of choice was the Winchester Model 70 chambered in .30-06 and an M2 Browning .50 Caliber Machine Gun he modified into a sniper. In 1967, he made the longest sniper kill over a mile long, and held the record for longest sniper kill, untill a Canadian Sniper made an even farther kill in 2002 in Afghanistan. White Feather killed a Viet Cong leader named the Apache Woman who would filet US Troops alive near US Military bases. One day, after hearing the screams of her victims, he had enough, he called in an airstrikes, and took her down with two shots. When he was up against a NVA sniper called The Cobra, he shot him through Cobra's own scope. He also killed a NVA General on an NVA base while being camouflaged without being caught. In 1969, a landing vehicle struck a mine, White Feather began pulling his fellow Marines out of the wreckage when we sustained burns himself. He was rushed to a military hospital for treatment and was stationed in the US. In 1975, he was diagnosed with multiple scoliosis or something, and he was forced to retire 55 days short of his 20 years of service on medical grounds. His marriage nearly failed, but he took up fishing, trained SWAT teams and US Special Forces. He died in 1999, he was awarded the silver start and purple heart. His son, also joined the USMC. His sniper rifle is on display in Quantico, Virginia, and Springfield Armory named a weapon after him, the M25 White Feather Tactical Rifle. He was called White Feather because he kept a white feather in his hat.

My grandgrandfather was in the resistance in the Netherlands during WW2. He prepared the boats for the people to go to England. There is now a museum of that in in the Netherlands. Engelandvaardersmuseum Noordwijk.

The Czech laughing meme reminds me of a movie i was shown as a kid called forbidden songs which was a movie 'historical' interpretation of forbiden Polish songs under Nasi occupation which openly insulted and made fun of Mustashe man and spaghetti man .
My grandma taught me some satirical songs about mustache man and some of his top staff, that circulated in Germany at that time. According to her, she learned those songs from Luftwaffe personell stationed in my hometown (which kind of makes sense, since many of them are about Göring/Meier)

yes, they did. even from the start, rommel went though the top most fort (he had to recon it, otherwise his orders would not allow to go, but he used a panzer charge against a fort for recon, and than went into 20-50 km deep into the enemy territory, mostly even his side did not know where was he.) later they just went through part of them, to make the french soldiers surrender faster.

actually the map is not entirely wrong. Just oversimplified. Like the portuguese decend from the suebi, the spanish from the western goths, Italians from the lombards and the easter goths, the english from the anglo saxons and the French from the franks which all were germanic tribes as classified by the romans although "germany" did not really exist so they were germanic but never "german"
