Thanks!! I love the minimalist organization style of only color coding the tabs and not the entire hanging folder. It's so smart and really chic too.

Right after I saw this video I immediately went and took out all the interior folders and put the papers in the handing folders by themselves. It never occurred to me that this was a way to file papers but I love it. Without the interior folders the files look a lot neater and there really isn't a need for the extra folder inside.. Now I need to get new handing folders and labels because mine are different colors without a purpose and just make the draw look messy.

I wish you showed us what was included in each file folder category. Like what all did you put in the "Never throw away" section. Great video, looks so pretty!

This was a great start for me to reorganize my files!! I wish you had went over which categories you chose. Also another problem I have with filing is not know what things I really should keep as what things I can toss/shred!

I loved the binder clip idea. I bet it helps with the hanging files not coming unglued from the weight of the documents too. Thank you for this great tip.

I'm really enjoying your videos in so many ways:
    1. The lighting is great, I never have a problem SEEING whatever you're showing us.
    2. The presentation moves along nicely (not too fast or slow)
    3. Your efforts show and I thank you from my heat.
That said, there's one thing I haven't seen yet. How do you manage (in more detail) just bills. E.g. Do you divide the mail upon arrival? Pay once a month or as you go along? Do you mark each bill paid with the check no & date for some file? What about the online payments? Do you keep these in a binder or hanging folder...and what do you call them? Do you keep them separate (like medical bills separate from medical records...etc). How do you know what to scan, how to keep that organized (Quickbooks? Another for regular household receipts?) these little things baffle me. I KNOW you of all people have the answers, however.
I wish you all the best. Your journey is worthwhile and makes me more confident that I'm moving in the right direction. I just bought two of your better binders at Staples. Money isn't there to get all at once but each month I'm adding a new one. Also, how did I never "get" how labeling everything is upgrading my entire life? Besides, it feels good to apply these little suckers claiming a home for things (a sense it's there, has a home - intentionally!) head bow to you, Mentor of mine.

Still love to rewatch this occasionally! Love Freedom Filer, too, it is hard to imagine switching to anything else...but their new binder system sounds interesting. I love the look of my white hanging folders, too, but disappointed in the quality. They are made of a heavier cardstock, but often have alignment issues that make them hang funny, and they just don't seem to glide as well, either. If I had to do it all over again, I think I would go with a pale grey hanging folder (preferring the softer grey of Smead to the darker grey of Pendaflex) which still allows the colors to shine, and the gliding action is smoother.

Great suggestion on color coding the tabs instead of the folders... let me tell you it is a costly mistake to color code folders! Searching for the right ones when they're either discontinued at your office supply store or just out of stock is nerve racking. One of the biggest keys to staying organized is making sure your chosen supplies are regularly stocked at the office stores and more likely to be a long term product. I've made costly mistakes by purchasing products which are gimmicky and have no production manufacturing longevity. White should be easy to find most of the time if not always! Thank you, Alejandra! You've changed my perspective for the better!

Coincidentally did a big desk purge & re-organization early this AM. I've so often wished you'd outlined a budget/sum spent on all the stuff. How many years will it take to use all those label holders? Many of us are moving to scanners and i-cloud as fast, more efficient, less costly, easier retrieval. Would like to be reminded that 80% of retained paper is never needed again.

    • @jburgett45

great point. I'm faced with 10+ years of paperwork to organize and it has come down to my wanting to scan it. I've been looking for the best scanner to do the job. Fujitsu make a couple of good ones. The Neat is not always compatible and has problems and is overpriced.

on TV they make it look so simple - not so if it doesn't work with your own computer. I called them asked questions, and all she told me was that if I didn't like it, to return. That alone tells me they're just telemarketers. Couldn't get any questions answered or it was vague or too general.

It'd be awesome if you could do a video on how to organize a wedding planning binder!

i LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos, but as a 20something newlywed, we need a much smaller scale system. We rent our apartment and don't own our own businesses. Can you do a video for a college/newlywed?

To make book organization more "functional", I use the iPhone app iBookshelf. I can scan my books, make a note what shelf it's on, then put them in any order I want. (I prefer by hight, rather than color!)

Thank you soooo much for sharing this. I love your filing cabinet, where did you get it from because I always wanted something for all of my books, binders, and files!!!

Alejandra, thank you so much for providing the inspiration needed to get started decluttering my files! This is extremely helpful. I was wondering if you might be able to share where you purchased your office furniture, specifically the shelves and filing cabinets. It would be much appreciated!

What do you use for papers you need to carry with you? Love the idea of just using the hanging files in your filing cabinet.

I haven't seen if this is posted or not and I haven't watched your second video where you may have addressed this, but my biggest question is what goes into each category? Your red tabs are the things you never throw away - what things do you have in that category. What things do you keep in your tax document section. I would love to see more specifics. LOVE your tips and videos. Thanks for all you do.
