when the host said that the sailors nicknamed the submarine "Katyusha", 2 things popped up in my head: 1-the submarine will have the Katyusha rocket launcher that will launch rockets and/or torpedoes 2- a naval version of Pravda (yes, i'm talking about the Girls und Panzer school) being led by a naval version of Katyusha
Finally! Something in soviet submarines from the 40s! I've learned about american submarines in the Pacific, I've learned if the German u boats, and even found a surprising amount on the few British submarines of the 40s, but never anything on russian submarines, this is really nice to see, thank you!
What the video doesn't mention is that her '14 victories' were 11 Norwegian fishing boats and two small freighters, the sub chaser fight they animated so nicely is disputed as another Russian sub (the much more successful K3) also claims the kill lol. Also her torps against Tirpitz missed so much that the Germans didn't even notice xD She does look quite nice and roomy inside though, a luxury compared to many subs.
Interesting submarine and story. Thankyou. Considering the size of a naval mine, 60 is a huge payload for a submarine, plus 24 torpedoes!!! 80 to 100 meters maximum depth though is not very deep.

You just sailed about at sea and thats it' . In war time huh? In the conditions of the North, a patrol by any submarine is already a heroic deed, because their crews always left the base with a one-way ticket, they never knew whether they would return or not. " Was I the only one laughing at this guy? Yes all your heroic submariners did was to sail around laying mines and bully converted fishing vessels. Even that K3 hit the ocean floor several times because they couldnt navigate properly and ended up surfacing, scoring a lucky hit in that boats depth charges to escape... What did the K 21 do? Let me sum it up for ya, It went out on a patrol, found Tirpitz + escorts and i guess at this point you would expect to actually do something to be praised like that right ? WRONG, she fired a couple of torpedoes on Tirpitz, completely missed and went back to base. No these guys are not heroes of the Soviet Union nor legends. They are just mediocre submariners at best. What would be considered an unsuccessful patrol in any other navy in this planet was turned into propaganda. Russia is just continuing this long tradition of trying to sell bullshit to uneducated people, just like the Soviets did. Sorry but this is not going to work.
I don't think you can call this ship a cruiser submarine I mean, the French literally figured out how to mount actual cruiser main battery rifles on a submarine the bar is a bit high for the russians
Hahaha, this dumb comment even gets upvotes. You don´t categorize a submarine by its guns. Also: the French mounted 203mm guns on a sub, wow. And that worked out well for them, huh? But i guess such details are too high for you, you rather stick to stale Russophobe comments from the cold war.
The original definition of a cruiser has nothing with guns. The original Cruiser is a ship which can work independently or in a fleet, do many different role. In this case a cruiser submarine is one which can make torpedo attack, surface attack, scouting, laying mines etc... It has nothing with the guns.
Hello and happy day: I inform you: The submarine Aras San Juan of Argentina was sunk on 11/15/2017 at 7:30 am by another Chinese submarine that was in espionage work and the Aras San Juan was pierced by Chinese submarine firing torpedoes at them and could not dodge it. The sinking of Russia's oscar-class submarine K-141 Kursk is the best known and remembered to date and was sunk on 08/12/2000 by another Russian submarine as they wanted to desert their crew and request political asylum and of course the Russian submarine K-141 KURS was refloated some time later but did not have a happy ending like the submarine in the movie The Hunt for Red October made and filmed in Hollywood and starring actors Thomas Sean Connery and Alexander Rae "Alec" Baldwin III. The American nuclear-powered submarines and all loaded with several missiles with nuclear warheads or warheads each of them, which are: 1) USS Thresher "SSN-593" and loaded with missiles with nuclear warheads and on April 10, 1963 wrecked or sunk, 2) The submarine USS Scorpion "SSN589" and sank on May 21, 1968. Other submarines of the Soviet Union with nuclear propulsion and loaded with missiles with nuclear warhead or warhead and these are apart from the K-141 Kurs previously commented, the following: 1) The submarine K-27 project 645 and sunk in 1979, 2) Submarine K-8 November class was sunk on April 12, 1970 and is the greatest radioactive threat in the world, 3) Submarine K- 129 with diesel propulsion- electric but loaded with nuclear weapons and sank on March 8, 1968, 4) Submarine K-278 Komsomolets and was sunk on April 7, 1989, 5) Submarine K-159 November class and was sunk on August 30, 2003 . On 03/08/2014, due to the supposed error of the impact of an Iranian missile "as the guy on the 8th of the Mexican comic program would say * It was unintentionally wanting to *" that blew up MALAYSIA Airlines flight 370 MH370 / MAS370 full of passengers with pure international scientists who were going to give a conference and news about the vaccine and cure of some cancer and AIDS "as I affirm or confess on 06/16/2020 Donald John Trump President of the USA" and they were also going to warn of the possible pandemic such as covid-19. The transatlantic ship RMS Titanic did not sink as a result of the collision with an iceberg but by a torpedo fired by a German submarine that was on espionage. In the world today in the 21st century there are more than 130 lost or lost bombs, nuclear or atomic warhead missiles and this loss is due to the sinking or destruction of ships, airplanes, or submarines around the world. In this world things or events do NOT happen by mere chance but by a true cause and effect that will never tell us their truth and if they will always distort it. And all my scientific technical information is sustainable or verifiable either by google or youtube on the Internet.

@@RDrumcajsek What are you on about? I don't care for the Russian govt. as much as the next person and it's no small secret that the Russian navy was and still is understaffed and untrained. Hell they even mention all of that in the video. However all of that doesn't defeat the fact that these submarines were all but destroyed during the war and that this is a look into a piece of history. Wargames has donated to preserve US ships and monuments as well as Russian ships. They don't have some deep agenda here, they're a gaming company for fucks sake. They look to maintain and curate history no matter what side of the war it was on. That's a noble goal, and probably a hell of a lot more than you do.
They dont mention when in 1943 K-21 suddenly popped up outside Senja in Norway, sprayed a bunch of Norwegian fishing boats with machineguns, killing 13 and kidnapping 7. I suppose it could be argued that the fish might have gone to feed German soldiers. Still, not the Russian navy's proudest moment.
Consider that today, the russian navys greatest accomplishment in ukraine has been to seize or block food transports and cause famine in large parts of the world, that seems to be the only thing they have ever been good for. Attacking civilians. "Heroic" navy indeed.
Brilliant video. The fact that the subs existed forced the Germans to devote resources to counter them. There just weren't the kind of targets around like in the Pacific or Atlantic for them to attack until late in the war. K21 was a big clumsy boat so taking her in to attack a heavily defended ship like Tirpitz was very brave not once but twice! If she had been detected I would not rate her chances much. Its just a shame the torps didn't hit the bloody thing, it was the only aggressive action against the Tirpitz taken by any allied navy in the disaster that was PQ17
I was just thinking, Sturmovicks would have been perfect for anti sub attack and anti ship roles!! They could do huge amounts of damage, especially the later models!!
this is one heck of a multiply personality disordered boat in a design sense. it's a testament to the high motivation and sheer bollocks of the crew that made this odd duck sub work.
@ Lőrincz Péter And? If there is nothing bigger to go for? Sinking 10 fishing boats is more than the glorious German U-Boats managed to sink in the Aegean Sea, or in the Black Sea. Get some education instead of making dumb childish comments you muppet.
@@estoyaqui5386 Hmm but the video literally says it "fought" the Tirpitz but the torpedos exploded prematurely and the German navy mostly was in the area around the Baltic Sea, including the Norwegian fjords etc.
@@estoyaqui5386 look mate i'm just trying to say that there are numerous subs that are more deserving of a naval legends episode than some random sub of a failed navy that pretty much only layed mines. it's pretty obvious that wargaming was on some patriotic rant bc of the release of the new soviet ships
I really do wonder if we get submarines will we get new game modes like defending/attacking a coastal base or a convoy escort with submarines and CVs playing critical roles to get your team closer to victory
11.5nm range submerged seems suicidally short to the point where I'll refuce to belive it till someone shows me a source... you have 2x 240 battery elements, but what's the Amp/h? must be some crappy batteries if you can barely move 1/8 the norm of a Type VIIc or 1/6 of the Surcouf... furthermore being a soviet sub, I would expect there to be relatively few high power electric devices onboard, using hydraulics or mechanics instead (rudder, diveplanes) anyone got a source if the number is true?
Im very surprised you didn't use the S-13 for this episode it was by far the most successful Soviet submarine of all time using Gross registered tonnage Sunk (44,138 GRT) It torpedoed the refugee ship Wilhelm Gustav An estimated 9,000 people (including 5,000 children) died when the S-19 torpedoed the German ship in January 1945. This is still the biggest ever Maritime loss of life from a single ship. The S-13 also sank the General Stueben another refugee ship 2 weeks later with another 3000 casualties, Those two ships alone made up 40,144 GRT although this does not seem like a large amount it was actually around 10% of the total tonnage for the entire submarine fleet. To acknowledge the achievement Captain Marinesko was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet union in 1990.

@@Jafmanz i don't see any huge transport ships being toroed either
@@TheSaberra GRT total are1436, 1774, 5000,8116. Define huge? regardless this sub was out on patrols... it had specified patrol areas, if no 'HUGE' ships come into that area or were within range then thats whats on the menu!
@@Jafmanz Just for note , before the enigma code was broken, Americans couldn't pass the Atlantic ocean cause of u-boats and UK was starving to death because it was surrounded by u-boats . Not that i claim that K-21 did the successful hits , just hear it here for the first time.
They really do try and play up any Soviet naval successes during world war 2.
Why not? Few people know about the operations of the Soviet Navy, and this is a perfect platform to build at least some interest, as there are few interesting stories to be told indeed. Would you prefer another documentary about sinking of the Hood, or Pearl Harbor or whatever?
The bias is real.
@@vvkth2500 I think what he's trying to say is that he believes that there is a difference between informing an audience alongside other things, and oversaturation at the expense of other equally little known stories. And i think he believes they're slowly crossing that line. While I somewhat agree, this is just my interpretation of what he said.
No one else was sinking those Norwegian fishing boats.

when the host said that the sailors nicknamed the submarine "Katyusha", 2 things popped up in my head: 1-the submarine will have the Katyusha rocket launcher that will launch rockets and/or torpedoes
2- a naval version of Pravda (yes, i'm talking about the Girls und Panzer school) being led by a naval version of Katyusha
Finally! Something in soviet submarines from the 40s! I've learned about american submarines in the Pacific, I've learned if the German u boats, and even found a surprising amount on the few British submarines of the 40s, but never anything on russian submarines, this is really nice to see, thank you!

29:27 The Chessboard is definitely the most important piece of equipment on this submarine xD
I have been to Severomorsk twice inside this submarine on an excursion.
I saw her from the inside.
The men who served on these things (all nations) were made of steel. I have toured other WWII subs and these things were not for the weak.
So Wargaming, when are we getting Submarines?
This is way better than History channel can offer.
They are teasing subs so much now I feel like punching my screen
What the video doesn't mention is that her '14 victories' were 11 Norwegian fishing boats and two small freighters, the sub chaser fight they animated so nicely is disputed as another Russian sub (the much more successful K3) also claims the kill lol.
Also her torps against Tirpitz missed so much that the Germans didn't even notice xD
She does look quite nice and roomy inside though, a luxury compared to many subs.
The video tells that K3 fought with the submarine chasers. Listeb closelly and yul see :D
That really is a beautiful looking submarine. Great to have learned about this boat.
Interesting submarine and story. Thankyou. Considering the size of a naval mine, 60 is a huge payload for a submarine, plus 24 torpedoes!!! 80 to 100 meters maximum depth though is not very deep.
Well modern subs can just about do 3x that dept, for comparison, consider the improvements in planes since ww2
Anyone brave enough to serve on a submarine has my respect.
Excellent presentation. They were brave sailors indeed
On day when i grow i will visit all naval museum i see in NAVAL LEGENDS i love this game , Channel and naval history itself
I am so glad that all of these videos have the stats for all the ships.
Can we just please have the release date for Subs?
Officially releasing submarines?! I've been waiting for them since alpha introduction :'(
And let's hope they NEVER appear

People talk about the Type VII or the Gato, but this thing must have been a beast.
"To my mind, it would be an insult not only to me, but to the veterans who are no longer here with us, when someone who only read the numbers would say : ' come on how many ships did you sink, you say? You just sailed about at sea and thats it' . In war time huh? In the conditions of the North, a patrol by any submarine is already a heroic deed, because their crews always left the base with a one-way ticket, they never knew whether they would return or not. "
Was I the only one laughing at this guy?
How about an actual Naval Legend next?
Fishing boat raiders (that is what the Royal Canadian Navy called K-21).
You all should get a medal for just taking that out without a heater. Can't imagine how cold it was
My best wishes for all submariners.Pakistan
hey, does anyone know the music used in the training book scene where they list tasks of the sub? I'm just curious & it's been bugging me.
I don't think you can call this ship a cruiser submarine
I mean, the French literally figured out how to mount actual cruiser main battery rifles on a submarine
the bar is a bit high for the russians
Amazing job please keep it up! I love the absolute attention to detail an effort that goes into these episodes!
Il-4 bomber on pylon- where is that located? Any site with more pictures of it?
I love this video, I think you should add submarines and depth charges (for light cruisers and destroyers) in the game.
Do World of Warships more realistic!
My suggession: In the game, all russian subs should have a 33% chance to self detonation at the start.
There are no subs in WoWs

Tom van Dijk they added subs to WoW

This will balance the game finally?
K-21 Thanks for having the right stuff.
2024 guys?
You gotta love how people think, because WG posts a video about a sub they all think its next thing to come. WG is more then just some games there staff is entrenched with history and its this history that they enjoy sharing. People that play war games usually enjoy war history.

I love World of Warships game, its so fun.
Ok ?
Consider that today, the russian navys greatest accomplishment in ukraine has been to seize or block food transports and cause famine in large parts of the world, that seems to be the only thing they have ever been good for. Attacking civilians. "Heroic" navy indeed.
Great work. This is highly appreciated. Keep it up.
Put more because it's good for children as they can improve their history.
how to make an extraordinary documentary better, add some amazing visuals. Fantastic
why you haven't added submarines in World of warship blitz
What a beautiful looking boat , TY , great episode .
It’s a nice boat yes but the German U-boats look better I think

I was just thinking, Sturmovicks would have been perfect for anti sub attack and anti ship roles!! They could do huge amounts of damage, especially the later models!!
wows is just doing submarine cgi so they can put it on their login screen when the submarine update comes
this is one heck of a multiply personality disordered boat in a design sense. it's a testament to the high motivation and sheer bollocks of the crew that made this odd duck sub work.
wow such amazing achievements... it managed to sink 10 fishing boats. truly the peak of the soviet marine
Wish to know if navy is a thing in ur country

11.5nm range submerged seems suicidally short to the point where I'll refuce to belive it till someone shows me a source...
you have 2x 240 battery elements, but what's the Amp/h? must be some crappy batteries if you can barely move 1/8 the norm of a Type VIIc or 1/6 of the Surcouf... furthermore being a soviet sub, I would expect there to be relatively few high power electric devices onboard, using hydraulics or mechanics instead (rudder, diveplanes)
anyone got a source if the number is true?
this sub was better then any thing the US had at the time
Im very surprised you didn't use the S-13 for this episode it was by far the most successful Soviet submarine of all time using Gross registered tonnage Sunk (44,138 GRT) It torpedoed the refugee ship Wilhelm Gustav An estimated 9,000 people (including 5,000 children) died when the S-19 torpedoed the German ship in January 1945.
18-22mm pressure hull? That sounds a little thin.
It'll be 300mm thick in game
Around the same as the US Gato class submarine. these ww2 boats were all more or less designed to sustain around 100m dives not more.
