@universeturtle as deathguard you just gotta wait for him to do a quick cough, even if it seems he's clearing his throat... then you know you've already won
16:03 -> if a unit is hidden behind a building waiting to charge another of your unit once they get in range, you cant overwatch them. OW requires you to have a LoS to the target unit at the START of their charge. This is the typical counter against Salamander: hop from one building to the next then charge.
i can hear enemies behind cover amping up to charge me, might aswell waste all my ammo on the brickwall theyre behind instead of waiting for them to come into effective range to unload.. makes alot of sense doesnt it
So for this example the overwatch a lot of times comes from the unit charging not moving. Ranged units are just gonna do their thing, i dont like it when something can shoot me and hit me in melee before its my turn to go again. OW rule is worded slightly weird, but luckily doesnt come up a ton
Movement is always the toughest part of the game for me. Most of my downfall during a game is caused by my awful deployment and threat assessment. These videos really slap me in the face and tell me what I need to look out for and improve on. Super helpful
Right on! Glad to be of help. Always look towards where you want to be later, and if its not time, stay hidden. There is so many moving parts in 40k, and every decision trickles down and snowballs to decisions made later. It's why this game doesnt get repetitive, just watch out for decision fatigue in games.
I used to ignore overwatch when i didnt have flamers but now if i have the spare cp thats not needed i just go for it and sometimes its a nice surprise, you fail every overwatch if you dont do it at all lol
@chaosclg true, but still try to keep the dice as much in your favor any time you can, rerolls, or fate dice. At a 6 game event tho you need it to work at least 4/6 times

ive won 4 GT level events back in the day, and countless RTTs (its where i get my money for paints) Nowadays GTs are so much more exhausting and bigger than back in my day. I did the tournament grind for years and am at the point where id much rather coach someone to a GT win than win one myself. Adepticon is gonna be within walking distance of my place this year, so i think im gonna bring my kroot army to prove they are the scariest detachment for tau. Overall tho, my first game of 40k was from the second edition starter set when it was new. The one with the cardboard deffdread, Havnt really stopped playing since. Started in the late 1900s =p

Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate.
Good! Some people don't like all the memes, but I think those people are boring, and they probably play space marines that they never plan on painting...
Azrael is oh so very good, good weapons, 4+invul and deathwing keyword to the unit he leads and in addition you get an extra cp every turn for re-draw, grenades or whatever really
Ya, but he does usually have to do something. when his sqaud is almost dead charge them. Also dont underestimate the melee power of 10 hellblasters. they do have 30 attacks +azreal lol. I wiped out a sqaud of 10 genestealers recently with a heroic intervene from azreals ranged sqaud lol
Right on thank you, I dont really make videos unless I have something super important to say. Taking the quality over quantity approach to this video series. Glad you liked it =)
I took two things from this: 1) Don't throw out my chaff for nothing on T1, support it with the rest of the army. That sounds good. 2) Azreal is overcosted, should go 30 points down. Ok, back to the first point - then what if I go first? I need to do SOMETHING to stop my opponent from cashing in VP at the end of his turn 5. Taking control of the board on T1 is one way to make some use of winning the roll off.
When I go first, i usually hide my army even better than when i deployed. Making good use of the terrain to hide closer to the middle. So now its kinda like I went second, but with better positioning ready to punish my opponent for coming out. He cant really do that or he can fall way to far behind.
Sometimes just the threat of telling youre opponent "i might overwatch" can make him back off without even spending the CP. thats when its the best value. Nothing beats free lol
@@WarAcademy especially if any threats have sustained hits or lethal hits, suddenly the "they only hit on 6s" is alot more scary due to every hit either doubling or skipping wound rolls
I should probably pull back on them lol. My goal was, if what im saying is too boring or cringy, there is always funny 40k memes to look at! People who dont play 40k but watch my videos tend to like that side better. ( i also make my gf watch these, and when she gets bored i know its time for a meme which is every 10 seconds or so 😅)
Lost against the Tyranids because I didnt take threat range into consideration. They have advance and charge which I knew before hand. If I were to do it again I would deploy way far back to compensate
advance and charge has large drawbacks too you can try to take advantage of. If an opponent is using it a lot it means his threat ranges are unpredictable for him too, relying on something that is "X+d6 movement + 2d6 charge" is super super random and hard to set up things. It also causes them to get stuck in the open when they make a mistake. Youll get those bugs next time for sure!
I'm glad to see people still suck at the maneuver war. I haven't really played 40K since ... 4th edition? But I remember when objective-based games first became a thing -- I went from losing all the time with my nids (who were shit at winning on kills) to cleaning up. I played a very hoard army, so I could tie down huge points-chunks of my opponent's army for basically the entire game. "Oh, a bloodthirster/Avatar of Khaine? Yep, that's sure a scary unit, it can very consistently kill 2-3 models a turn of basically anything I have" *throws a blob of 20 hormagaunts at it* "That'll keep it for the whole game so long as it stays in synapse." Most of the rest of my strategy was keeping the other army in melee so that I didn't have to deal with the withering fire that I just couldn't respond to - and lobbing spore mines into the back line so that any units that fell back would have to fall back through them, and get removed. I couldn't do enough damage to kill a lot of units -- but neither could they, with a few exceptions, just because I had so damned many wounds on the table. But because I was playing a different game than them -- and the correct one for the mission -- I'd win consistently.
I disagree about your view regarding inceptors dropping in opponent deployment zone. Obviously it depends on the army, but they tend to be strong enough to be able to wipe any objective holder for most armies, which gives you a few possible secondaries options: (1) wipe a unit, (2) steal opponent home, (3) kill unit on objective, etc... It is a lot of scoring options you are giving up if you drop them on your side of the table on turn 3+
Against a good player tho, he knows your gonna do that is is usually allowing it. Tau fire warriors for example with their -1 to wound and 5+ fnp dont go down as easy as the look. Overwatch can hurt badly too sometimes. There is a time and a place for it. but taking an opponent off the home is about the same as taking them off the mid objective. Coming in the mid helps assure you can shoot more than one time per game. There is no best rule of thumb for 40k, when you see an opportunity that isnt a trap, you definitely want to take it!
its pretty hard to score 10 points turn 1 without any primary and without moving out of cover, but sometimes its just the way she goes. If he got a super good draw early, hopefully youll get one later on. Hopefully

ill walk into your charge range with something cheap, and if you charge me you can get stuck in the open. Theres many exceptions to every situation which is why making these videos can be tough for general armies. In general tho... Yes, stay out of a blood angels threat zones
@@WarAcademy I mean, obviously don't take bait units, or sacrifice my bait units to deal with them and pull you out in the open instead. You are right tho, target selection is as important as positioning, as well as which units do I place closer in deployment and keep moved further up. Great tips, Im just wondering if both players wait in their zone and hope the enemies makes a mistake in movement, is the game just going to be peacefully standing around?
thats what the cards are there for, they instigate it more. Its also harder to wait a turn when you go second. Main thing is dont walk out just to sit on an objective and then blow up, that doesnt help you at all
Im struggling against a thousand sons player at my local store.range 24" Str 6 ap -2 dam 1 flamers has been really hard to deal with. Im a tyrand player and I try to avoid the flame range but I don't know if there a better way of dealing with that. Any tips?
He cant shoot these thru walls anymore with the FAQ, but using small units and multiple MSU can mess up his numbers, if 3 seperate pyrovores jump him he can only OW one. If hes activating in his shooting, give him something hell be satisfied to shoot, but has an ambush waiting to mop him up after. otherwise stuff like setting up an exocrine to cut them off and blowing them away, or move blocking them with a half dead unit if they try to hide behind a wall
I have helped people come back from much worse. Getting in the mindset of your opponent, and some extra prep work can do a lot. If you found my TH-cam channel you already must be good at researching
I’m 2-21 with Chaos Knights. I played against demons for a third of my games. Having them pick up two units at the end of my phase hurts me cause they drop them back in front of me after I’ve eliminated a squad. Scarbrand and the Bloodthirster can take any knight off the board whenever they want without any saving throws
Bro, if you are an oklahoma city local, i run a coaching program that has helped many people go from never having a game (and like 50 losses) to winning tournaments (mostly rt's and minor gt's).
@@lilv3966with chaos knights, you need to be focusing on wardogs. Keep them hidden turn one, unless you go second and they walk into your threat range with your melee variants (drawing a blank on the name).
Depends. My Tyranofex once killed the necron pyramid thing with a (very lucky) casinon canon shot. Basically, if your odds of killing the thing are greater than your odds of surviving and you have an extra CP, it is worth a shot
I 90% agree with you, but i have been hit hard by those hail mary overwatch shots that make you stop and look at your opponent and go "Really dude?....." Luckily that is not very often and people who rely on hail marys a lot tend to not be the best players at the event
Thank God for your videos, I'll have big 2000point tournament in 2weeks, this vid is a Godsent brother! Godspeed. You're funni, easy to understand, itz just glorious!
I won big!! I came first! Tournament ended up being kinda small coz half were sick, but I played against imperial fists and I won by one point! Second was against custodies which I dominated. I baited his army out in the open by first turn moving my monolith on the center asking either you kill this and get out in the open, or I'll use the teleport shenanigans for lots of points and domante the center with itz big guns! Well he instantly took the bait and destroyed my monolith first turn, but then half of his army was out in the open and I punished him so severely that he couldn't get any primary points on whole game after that! And all thanks to you! I fully rewatched your why you suck at warhammer vid just before the tournament! Godspeed sir!
so all in all, i make my GF watch these and i have to use a lot of memes so she doesnt get bored lol. This has also helped me get a lot of views from people that don't even play 40k. I will cut them back a bit in the future, but if you get bored during a video the memes help give some entertainment value while I go over something you might already know.

Martial artist since 2004 here. BJJ, Thai Boxing, western Boxing, folk, Greco Roman, and freestyle wrestling… Movement and footwork. Angels of approach and backing off. and the direction you move and the timing and positioning of it is literally… the most crucial building block of any combat scenario. And also battle field tactics, study miyamoto musashi and what he says about moving across different kinds of ground, higher and lower, and then the book the academy of the sword, the geometry of movement and point of approach on your opponent. It’s literally all geometry and how you approach them and from where and at what time. Tabletop 40k makes this obvious. You have an effective range etc. It’s just as important as the strikes/attacks you use…no?!?! which are a microcosm reflecting what I just said. Anyone savvy in actual real life combat will know exactly what I’m talking about. Approach vectors so to speak. Blade geometry. Lines and arcs of force. Timing. Position. Blah blah blah. tl;dr: put yourself in the right place at the right time and you’ll win the fight.
Exactly!!! Its very very hard to teach people to move right and play a turn ahead, I think your comparisons are pretty spot on! Even a small opening in an opponents defense can knock someone flat on their butt! I got beat by the LVO champion once because I left a tiny little hole in my defenses I didnt think would matter, but the champion showed me why he earned that title, all of a sudden i thought i was winning, then bam everything fell apart and I found myself throwing hail mary plays just to try to catch back up but never could. Had nothing to do with units, dice rolls, or rules. (i spread my sqaud 1 inch apart to cover more space, forgeting sisters repentia have a base smaller than an inch and they slipped right by me!)

LETS GO, I WON'T SUCK!
Right on brother! For the Emprah!
I'm doing my part (share the $$ out of this one). Great stuff, as always.
Thanks so much!!!
Good video and taking points but I just wish you didn’t use ai trash, 40K has a plethora of art you can use in its place.
it was just for my logo that i used AI, your eyes might have burned and melted if you saw something that i attempted to draw haha!
I am 1-18 , i have given up
I have helped people come back from much worse. Getting in the mindset of your opponent, and some extra prep work can do a lot. If you found my TH-cam channel you already must be good at researching
What are you using?
Overwatch without rerolls or flamers is pointless.
Bro if the editing takes too long leave the memes out
memes just earned him my sub
I didnt need the memes either
Hear hear. From your mouth to God's ears. 🙏
@@TrolldaMeirHow old are you?
Yeah the memes ruin the video
9:15 you just discribt a Schwerpunkt
I like that word much better than deathstar! I've never heard it before
@@WarAcademyI would then advice that you read through “the development of Schwerpunkt”.
Postscriptum: and also ""Schwerpunkt" for Dummies".
Thank God for your videos, I'll have big 2000point tournament in 2weeks, this vid is a Godsent brother! Godspeed. You're funni, easy to understand, itz just glorious!
How did you do? Hope you crushed em!
Big chungus movement
that might have been a great title for the video lol
Man I really do love the vids but you don’t need a meme reference for every single point
make your own videos if you dont like his style
so all in all, i make my GF watch these and i have to use a lot of memes so she doesnt get bored lol. This has also helped me get a lot of views from people that don't even play 40k. I will cut them back a bit in the future, but if you get bored during a video the memes help give some entertainment value while I go over something you might already know.
@@WarAcademy hahah aww well now I appreciate the psy op of getting the partner to enjoy the 40K content
@@snakycake4790 are you 12
Excellent video!
its all because of the thumbnail =p
Overwatch? Wth is that i don't bring no guns glorious melee combat or death
As a melee army, im sure youve been on the receiving end of it once or twice? =p
@WarAcademy I have no idea what you mean lol
For the Algorithm!
Right on brother! May the emperor bless your dice!
Engagement
To me? im flattered but I have a GF. Not ready for anything super serious but thank you so much! We should be friends!
Always can’t wait for these ❤

Brother the AI images arent doing any favors. Good vid tho
if I tried drawing something it might burn peoples eyes out tho. =p
@@WarAcademy The AI slop earnt your 10/10 video a down vote tho =p
@sibnova don't envy your future dice karma lol. Maybe it will be good tho, a comment is a comment, and watch time beats like/dislikes.
Ai images definitely got some extra interaction 😜
Great vídeo 👌

Movement and footwork.
Please do staging next
hmmm, ive wrote that down in my notebook. It might make a good shorter video. Next I think is gonna be Why you suck at 40k: Newb Edition There is really a lot of simple concepts people dont seem to understand. staging might be too advanced for it, but maybe i can squeeze it in
Blame GW crap movement mechanics
gotta play with the rules they give us, even if the rules are crap, best thing we can do is play the game to the best of our ability and remember to have fun!
💯
Dude if you want more likes, make better videos. They arent bad currently, but you are kinda all over the place.
Stop begging for it and stay on topic better.
i do what i can to not be like everyone else, when a channel is as small as mine I gotta ask for the sub a lot. Maybe one day I won\t have to, sorry you didnt enjoy the layout of the video. My A.D.D is baaaad
@@WarAcademy yea, I get it. That's why I watch your videos.
That said, normal people probably don't like it.
But you'd be surprised how much asking too much turns people off. Definitely say it at least once per video, but if you say it more than once, space them out. Like at the beginning do a "before we get started, hit the like and subscribe if you like the channel, it really helps out"
Then halfway through "a friendly reminder to like and subscribe"
Then at the end, "well you made to the end of the video, thank you for that. While you are at it, hit the like button and subscribe, don't forget to hit the notification Bell to get alerts when I release new videos. Thanks again for watching.
