    Thank you much for this recipe! I made this for my birthday and it was a great cake😊 🎂. The whole family loved it! My family are picky eaters but this cake was delicious and everyone was so happy 😁 with the flavors.

    I made tres leches for the first time last week and followed someone’s recipe calling for can whole can of condensed milk and I almost threw up it was so sweet I couldn’t take more than two bites without feeling nauseas. I would def love to try this recipe out

      Hi Jeez Louiz! I agree with you. I do not like overly sweet cakes and desserts. I prefer the European style of dessert that is mildly sweet and allows other flavors to come through. Let me know what you think of my recipe, and if you still think it is too sweet, I will help you modify it to your preference.

    Ohhhh goodness my family especially my husband and our grandchildren loves this cake. We used to pay a lady to make one for each one of our kids and 4 grandchildren at $50.00 a cake. I've been type 1 diabetic for 30 years so its hard on me to not just dive into it so I THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SHOWING ME I CAN MAKE IT AND EAT IT FOR MY FAMILY. I'm not strictly keto but I do alot of keto dessert for my husband and I because my diabetes is so bad im on disability for it so whatever you make i can feel good eating and God bless you and your creative cooking abilities for helping ones like me. I hope I can continue to watch you for a long time to come.

I'm a T2D and my husband is healthy, but finds the keto food that I prepare also to be the best diet for mental clarity and maintaining good weight, in his personal experience. Three of four of our kids are not keto, and the reason that I started this channel is that my goal was to have all of us eat the same food, without special prep, and enjoy having dinners together as a family.
      I am really glad that you like the vanilla tres leches cake, and here is something I'll share with you. Tomorrow, I am posting a chocolate tres leches cake that is one of my favorites, because I am a "chocoholic" :-) I will look forward to hearing your thoughts on it once it is posted, and if you have the opportunity to make it.

    Made this today, it was really good, didn’t have macannan so I used psyllium husk instead. Tasted just like real cake.

      Back to the recipe.. I like in Asia and I don't think I have ever found this ingredient online nor in shops. I do have xantham gum though. Unfortunately it is all that I could find.
      How much do you think I should put in...

      Hi Munna! Thank you for your very kind compliments, and I'm glad that you like the style of my videos. I prefer the food to be the star of the show, rather than the presenter (me) and I'm trying to make this a teaching channel instead of an entertainment channel.
      Glucomannan is konjac root, which is actually grown in Asia - it may have a different name. Here is a link to the alibaba website, to a page about the product:

      If you let me know which country you are in, I will try to find a specific product for you that you can use, I would love to help you out.
      If using xanthan gum for this recipe, it is a 1:1 substitution, since there is only 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of glucomannan. So use use a teaspoon of xanthan gum.
      But when you reply, I will try to find you where you can get glucomannan, because it is so much better than xanthan gum. Cheers!

    I made this recipe but slightly modified. Used half and half almond flour and lupin flour for the same total amount of flour. It's hard to get it to rise but other than that it tastes amazing. You're not gonna get the original tres leches taste because that's super sugary but you have to appreciate it as its own dish.

      Hi Ummuser! I believe that you are new to my channel, so welcome! You are absolutely correct, you will not get as much rise with nut or seed flours as you do with glutinous flours. As for the sweetness, I agree with you that it is not as sweet, but I think that with keto or low carb, over time you become more sensitive to sweet tastes, and, as well, appreciate the other flavors more. I would compare the sweetness to more of a French/Italian/Croatian sweetness level of their pastries.
      Like you, I have been using a lot more lupin flour of late, and do like it because it is lower in carb and higher in protein.       Hi Miguel! Thank you for your interesting question. I would NOT use just lupin flour to make a cake. Although lupin flour is higher in protein and lower in carbs, it has a very strong taste, which you would notice as an unpleasant flavor to the cake.
      If you want to use lupin flour, I would recommend it in a blend of other nut or seed flours, depending on the recipe. For the tres leches cake, I would recommend you substitute one quarter of the almond flour with lupin flour, so overall a 1:3 ratio, for best results.
      Just a reminder, lupin flour is in the peanut family, so if you are making it for anyone with peanut allergies, you may want to consider that this may affect them.

    Well this is a lovely surprise! I had assumed that Tres Leches Cakes were gone forever for me. You've fixed that! Thanks! We have three famous Tres Leches Cake bakeries here in nearby Merida. The women are sisters that opened their own shops after their Father passed away. There is almost always a line to get in once the cakes are ready to sell, and they almost always sell out. But my friends taught me to check early in the day to see if there are any of Yesterday's cakes available. Super Delicious and so rich. Thanks for this. I will get going!!

      No, but I am close by in Motul. I lived in Merida in 1988 and love this area. When we retired in 2007, we had planned to build on our Belize property and rent in Merida, but sadly Belize proved too lawless for us, so we came back to Mexico. Motul is not as crazy as Merida and we love it here! Our neighbors are the best!

      @@KetoMealsandRecipes I made the huge mistake of trying it before it chilled (all the effort made me curious) it definitely tasted better the next day. I'm making it again tomorrow 😊 my brother tried it and said it tastes just like an ordinary cake. My "condensed milk" looked a little more like caramel too 🤦‍♀️ but it was really good.       @@KetoMealsandRecipes hi it's me again, I've made this about 3 times as it is the best tasting cake I had on keto. I would like to suggest a video on keto lemon and blueberry cake if that's ok with you .. 😊 I've seen a lot of this recipe but none of them have as good comments as yours. So basically.. I only trust your recipes.
      by the way the last time I made the tres leches cake I dumped a whole lot of red colouring into the batter and split it up into cupcake molds to make red velvet cupcakes. I still poured the tres leches mixture on them (using foil cupcake cups as paper will just get wet). I was able to collect some cooked batter, processed them and sprinkled on top so they look like a typical red velvet cupcakes. I'm thrilled to finally have something that looks good and healthy I can make for my birthday. I would send you a picture if I could!!

      Hi Ann. I am glad that you like the sweetened condensed milk recipe, and I hope that you will enjoy the tres leches cake. As for glucomannan substitute: you can use xanthan gum or guar gum, but I strongly prefer glucomannan because it doesn't create as gummy a texture, is perfect for baking and for making gravies. It is my go-to ingredient for thickeners and binders. May I recommend you try it? But if not, the other two are ok. Cheers!

If I could make a recommendation, complete this recipe ahead of time, at least 2-3 days before you plan to serve, so that the recipe can "rest" and the full flavor profile can develop.       Hi Jean Carlo! You are most welcome, and thank you for your kind compliment about the recipe. This is a two-part answer: First, why I use glucomannan and what it does: Glucomannan, or konjac root powder, a natural plant-based product, is used in keto, gluten free baking and recipes to replace gluten, which holds cakes together. Without glucomannan, baked goods will be more crumbly. Glucomannan in place of gluten, like gluten, is a binding agent for the sorts of ingredients used as keto flour. Some people will use either xanthan gum or agar agar in place of glucomannan, for the same reasons. I prefer glucomannan because it does not create a gummy or rubbery texture, as do both xanthan gum and agar agar.
      The second reason that I use glucomannan, as in this recipe, is to create a really nice texture and hold together when you add the tres leches over the cake.

    This looks wonderful! But I am on a mission to find a substitute for almond flour. I think I have just overdone it and no longer enjoy the taste or texture. I am wondering if you have looked for other options, maybe a blend of things?

      Hi 1955dmb! I totally understand about getting tired of just a single alternative or nut flour. In the tres leches cake, I use a combination of almond flour and coconut flour for the best texture and overall taste. I have recently also started posting recipes such as my Nantucket cranberry pie, where I use a combination of almond flour and lupin flour as a replacement for coconut flour. My son does not like the taste of the coconut flour. By combining the almond flour with lupin flour, you get a really nice taste, that differs significantly from just almond flour plus coconut flour, and so you may want to try that combination.
      Lastly, I have tried substituting other nut flours for the almond, but it was either extremely expensive, or did not work as well.

    I have made the condensed milk but never got thick, I didn't think of putting it in a sauce pan. Good tip! My question though is, does this cake taste eggy? I have done a lot of mug cakes and I can't seem to enjoy the vanilla ones becuz the egg just over powers it. Thanks.

      Hi Ondina! I find that mug cakes also taste quite eggy, because the ratio of egg to other ingredients is quite high. That is one of the reasons that I have not made mug cakes on my channel.
      In answer to your question, no, the tres leches cake does not taste eggy. As for your SCM, cook it on low heat, for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, and then let it cool. At first it will be more runny, but it thickens up as it gets colder.

      Hi Munna! Glucomannan is also known as konjac root powder, which, by the way, is what glass noodles are made of. It uses the root of the konjac plant, which is dried and ground to a very fine powder. I use konjac root powder as a thickener or binding agent in all of my recipes, instead of xanthan gum (which is what a lot of people use) which is a bacterial by-product.       Konjac root, in the carb breakdown, is 100% insoluble fiber. I use this in place of other gums or thickeners because one of my sons would get abdominal pain whenever I used even just a little bit of xanthan gum in a recipe. My kids also did not like the gummy texture that a gravy or sauce would get with gums, whereas glucomannan behaves much more like corn starch, and doesn't make things gummy. After using many different types of thickeners, this is the one I use exclusively because it is very versatile and give the best results in my recipes, and my son also does not have any side effects from this product.       Hi Jose! Glucomannan, or powdered konjac root, is a binding agent and acts like gluten (from wheat flour) in keto baking, to prevent the cake from being crumbly. I find that it is the best of all the binding agents that I have used, because it doesn't make things gummy, like xanthan gum or guar gum, which are also binding agents. You could substitute the glucomannan with either of these gums, but the texture will not be as nice, in my opinion. The other reason I use glucomannan is that it is plant-based, rather than a product of bacterial action, as xanthan gum is. You use very little of the glucomannan, so if you eventually want to try it, you might want to consider ordering it online, rather than trekking to find this product specifically.       Hi Sylvia! If you are on keto, my absolute answer is "no." I know that several TH-camrs are using vital gluten - keto is about no gluten and no sugars because gluten is one of the two major proteins of wheat, and gluten/glutinous grains do affect your body and brain. If you are not on keto, you can just use regular flour if you want the gluten - it will give the same effect. But this is your recipe, and if you are not worried about gluten, you can of course add it. The recipe does not need gluten, and the cake part turns out exactly as it should be for a dense, full bodied cake. I hope that this clarifies my opinion. Cheers!

      Hi! The glucomannan is a binding agent like gluten is in flour. Glucomannan is also known as konjac root powder, and is made from that plant. I like to use it because it adds structure and the cake is less crumbly, so the texture is nicer, especially for a cake such as the tres leches, which is soaked with a lot of fluid. You could use xanthan or guar gum instead, but the texture won't be as nice. As for not using anything at all, I would not recommend that, because you do need something to bind the cake together.

      Hi Darcy! I did not include the finely ground confectioner's (powdered) sweetener with the dry ingredients because I actually use it to make the meringue. Please see time 3:33 in the video. Also, the quantities for the sweetener are in the "Wet Ingredients" section - I tried to group the ingredients as you use them, because you need it to make the meringue stiff. Sorry for the confusion. The amount is 30g / 2 tbsp. Cheers!

I have found, to assure freshness with my leftover frosting or cream, the best way is to store it in a glass container that has a snap-on lid, but before putting the lid on, I also cover it with cling wrap, and have the cling wrap touch the surface to reduce air contact, and then snap on the lid. In this way, I found that the cream stayed quite nice for two to three days, but freshly made is always best. Have a wonderful day! Cheers!

      Hi Kat! I get my mascarpone cheese at the grocery store, in the refrigerated section. Mascarpone cheese is an Italian version of cream cheese, that is lighter in texture and in taste. If you can't find it, let me know and I will tell you how to convert cream cheese for this recipe. I have tried it with cream cheese and with mascarpone - the mascarpone gives it a much lighter, creamier taste, so if you can, for best results, try to find mascarpone first. Cheers!
