Episode 5 is another Double Weave episode taught by Jane and is from one of her favourite workshops, Inspiration from the Sari. For years you have been seeing an amazing red Sari hanging on the back wall of the studio to the left of the blackboards. That Sari has sequins woven into little pockets and Jamdani inlay woven on a 3” grid. This is created on threading that also allows you to weave Tu...

Release date - April 18th, 2024 for 4 & 8 shaft weavers! Episode 3 is an introduction to Deflected Double Weave on 4 shafts and 8 shafts. For the 4-shaft section, I wove a sampler with one half threaded as a 4-thread unit and the other half threaded as a 5-thread unit. I tried all kinds of sequences in just one colour with one shuttle and then again with 2 colours and 2 shuttles. Then I took al...

Season 8 Episode 2 release date March 7th, 2024 and is presented by Rebecca Logan! The subject is Marian Powell's method of drafting Shadow Weave, and it is brilliant. This is also our first episode where there is theory and projects for both 4 and 8 shafts. This makes for a massive episode but it's all broken down and presented beautifully over 9 instructional videos. The are 4 PDF's which inc...

Jane Stafford School of Weaving's Season 8 Episode 1 Our first episode is a sequel carried on from the last episode in Season 7 which was M’s & O’s goes on a date with Huck and hangs out with Colour and Weave. There was so much in that episode that I just had to add another lesson to it. This time, I am adding a Log Cabin sequence on top of that modified M’s & O’s threading but I also bring in ...

I’ve been very busy creating new episodes for Jane Stafford’s School of Weaving for 2024. We’ll be doubling our fun by looking at structures on 4 shafts and taking them to 8 shafts. I’m so excited to be introdu...

Season 7 builds on all previous years with special emphasis on the Colour and Weave gamp we did in Season 2 Episode 4. We take those colour and weave sequences and overlay them onto units and blocks for Overshot, Crackle, Halvdrall, Turned Taquette, Summer & Winter, M’s & O’s and Monk’s Belt. We also start the season with one more 8-shaft Turned Twill with colour & weave. Check us out at www.sc...

School of Weaving's Name Drafting Overshot

What is Name Drafting? Well, basically you assign a harness on your loom to a letter in the alphabet, then you take words that have meaning to you, a name, a piece of poetry, a Haiku..... assign the letters in the word to the harnesses on your loom. Tweak it a tad to follow the rules of overshot and you have your very own personalized pattern. Name drafting is a perfect way to make a piece of w...

    I would love to know how this system can be read when using a rigid heddle loom with 2 heddles, a pick up stick and a heddle rod, instead of a shaft loom as one cannot treadle in a rigid heddle loom.

    FIrst of all, I am kinetically challenged - which can be a problem for anyone doing 3D media like weaving!. I have had people show me how to start a chain a number of times, but watching you, trying it myself a few times, and I finally got it to stick. And thanks to you for providing some good perspective on the process - underscoring that there is no one single way to do things. Thanks so much.

    so for clarification…. on the 15 dent reed…. the slay at the 1:01 bottom says 5. does that mean 5 threads per heedle? i hope i asked that in a way that makes sense. thank you so much for your help!!!

    • @TinyFibreStudio
      @TinyFibreStudio 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You've probably found this out in the two weeks since you asked the question, but just in case... you would have a single thread in each heddle, but when your sley the reed you'd use the sley order in the left column: eg. for 5epi in a 15dpi reed, miss two dents and put a thread through the next dent. Repeating that pattern would give you 5 ends per inch. Keep in mind that this is intended for table and floor looms where the heddles and reed are two separate things as opposed to rigid heddle looms where they're integrated. You can do reed substitution on rigid heddle looms but this chart isn't designed for that.

    • @JaneStaffordTextilesChannel
      @JaneStaffordTextilesChannel 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! If you have 6 treadles on your loom, you can have 2 treadles for plain weave and 4 treadles for twills.

    Great video! I'm so pleased that someone is more mathematically challenged than I am! ;) I mainly do it to prevent errors in striped warps, but I print out a color-coded strip that I tape to the castle to remind me of the yarn color and the widths of stripes. Alternatively, I use white artist's tape (it's not too sticky) to mark the width in the reed. Anything to avoid mismeasurement! I like the LeClerc's castle-mounted raddle. I made a raddle with nails-in-a-board for my recently purchased (but ancient) counterbalance loom. I clamp it to the back beam, but I'm going to try the castle, LeClerc style. I'm also going to try the books-on-the-warp-on-the-floor! That's brilliant!
