Achilles Tendon Repair

  • This animation illustrates the repair of a torn Achilles tendon, using threads anchored to the calcaneus. An incision is made through the skin above the tear, to allow access to the torn filaments of the tendon. The damaged portion of the superior part of the Achilles tendon is accessed through the incision and pulled tight using forceps. Threads are then passed through the body of the tendon which are collected and pulled out through the incision. Holes are drilled in the calcaneus, the threads are then passed through the substance of the inferior part of the torn tendon, and anchored into the calcaneus, using screws.

As a child I was crazy, one summer day I was out with my friends, I was in shorts and slippers. In the staircase of the building where i live there was a window broken in half, I couldn't bear to see it like that and I decided to break it... I break myself, when I took my foot out, a sharp corner of the window penetrated my Achilles tendon, when I saw a lot of blood I faint, I woke up in the ambulance. The doctors at the hospital nicknamed me "Achilles' Tendon" lol. The recovery took about 3 months, after 18 years it is still swollen but there is no pain and I had no problems

The first reaction after I broke the window was to put my foot down on the stairs to go up. When I touched my fingers to the concrete, something very strong went up through my body to my brain and made me fall down (it wasn't painful, it was something strong that doesn't let you move your body). Doctors don’t receive enough credit for their work. Their science and art is the result of thousands of continuous research and desire to help one another. It baffles me when Americans take so much pride in calling murderers, dressed up as soldiers, heroes, but they never bother to call their Doctors, phlebotomists, nurses, medical assistants, EKG techs, AND EMTs heroes, or give them any credit. Healthcare staff are in risk of getting diseases daily, and yet they do it everyday.
Take a moment to appreciate people who’s trade and work save lives daily… not little soldiers.

That’s why it’s important to do some cardiovascular exercises on daily basis, athletes get it because they work hard but for regular people it could be due to minor fender bender because as you don’t stretch muscles, they get hard and more likely to get inflamed and break, so maintain your good posture, run on daily basis.

There was a character that was talking about modern medical treatment because they had gone back in time, or they were treating someone from the past(?), anyway, they referred to modern medicine as barbaric treatment, pointing out that they (us, now) still relied on medical treatment by cutting open the body.

I am not a doctor, but what I read is that physical therapy is required post surgery to regain normal movement, and the tendon is overall weaker. Doing intensive exercise (or professional sports) is not recommended post injury, due to the possibility of a repeat tear. Moderate exercise is allowed, but care should be taken.

The healing process of an Achilles tear is what can destroy the performance of an athlete, if the muscle heals tight enough, the athlete can recovery like the tear had never happened, but if it heals too loose or too tight it can result in the lost of the power that the muscle can deliver in an explosive movement, destroying the performance of the athlete, also there's the psychological aspect of the healing process that I don't know enough to talk about
