This game wasn't supposed to be p2w, Back in 2008-2011. Everything you see in cash shop was fixed price, the mount price was 3k NX, which if I remember correctly its like 1.99$ There was no RNG lootbox inside of the cash shop, no Enchant scrolls, no exp potion, no p2w items that has been sold. Hell even the dyes were in a bundle box, if you buy that box you will get red,black,blue,orange, etc. for a fix price. Nowadays all you can see in every free to play games has rng lootboxes that is filled with trash, God damn even if you spend 200 bucks if you are lucky you can only get 1 mount and more trash. 2012- present was the start of the p2w era. They introduced enchant scrolls in the gacha, exp poitions, they over inflated the price of reincarnation cards so that you can reincarnate for every 1 week, (that's right folks you can only reincarnate every 3 weeks). A bunch of p2w items and trash and trash and trash. They even tried to remove the trading between the players and got mercilessly roasted and backlash by the players so they didnt not remove it. lmao. Nexon reputation back then was God tier, today is greed tier.

I always loved Mabinogi's combat system. Its not that usual hack and slash style. IT takes strat, you can get stunned and stun eneimies, parry, etc, it just feels very tactile. I need that in other MMOs

It once was amazing...now it's completely p2w by gacha or by purchasing straight from player via PayPal. I played years ago and anyone could do top tier stuff and pvp without gacha crap :(
I don't really see a game as p2w unless you have to either pay to do a lot of the content in the game or you can just get super strong gear buying it from the cash shop. You can do most of the content and all 25 Generation story quests in Mabinogi without paying a penny. My gear is always bad random crap and I get by just fine, never bought a single reforge from the cash shop. The only content you really need super good end game gear for is raids, pvp, and the endgame dungeons (Rabbie Phantasm, Crom Bas, and Glenn Bearna). Being a fashionogi is a little expensive if you want to take it seriously but in the end it is all things you don't actually need to buy to win or enjoy the game. It also helps that almost anything can be sold on the Auction House. So I think Mabinogi has three type of players, the whales who care about running endgame content or fashion but have limited hours to play, the players who have tons of time on their hands to play and grind content for hours, and the players who just don't care how fast or slow they move through content and make do with what they have

I usually play the new Call of Duty, CS2 and Guild Wars 2 but I really delved into a bunch of other mmos like Tibia, OSRS and EverQuest Project 1999 but out of those I'd rather play Guild Wars 2. But in reality I'd love to stop playing cod and these annoying games that are stressful and exhausting and play a peaceful looking game with relaxing music. One such example would be MapleStory (i never played it) but players say it's bad now and a money grab. OSRS may be the one for me or is Tibia better? I just want infinite grind/progression and an easy game to play where I can chill/relax and listen to the awesome music with a calming feeling...

i googled "old school mmos" and found this mabinogi. had never heard of it before, and now i'm watching videos to know what to do ingame pretty fun watch, lookin forward to seeing the rest. good luck, ma duuuude

p2w lost its effectiveness since Tech Duinn came out. Now, it's purely relying on skills, resources, power, and teamwork to complete these difficult runs, such as Crom Bas and Glenn Bearna.
A great thing about the game is the blacklisting feature by right clicking on a player you can essentially remove them from your screen theyre still there you just dont see them anymore or their messages.
