UFO, one of the first bands I seen live at the ripe old age of 13. The absolute topper, AC/DC was the coheadliner. Now at 58 i couldn’t imagine a better indoctrination into live venues. That was in May of 79. South Bend, Indiana. Rock and roll Bliss at its finest! 🤟
That is without a doubt, the greatest cover tune I have ever seen. I especially like that they kept the song true to the original but made the solo their own. Simply amazing. This is one of the reasons I like Tesla. They always have respect for the music.
Excellent. As a total Schenker nerd and guitar teacher, I have to say that the solo is a lovely mix of the original studio version and the live version everyone knows and loves. I also really love Tesla. Win-win. 🙂
Frank's touch also makes it sound like Schenker, it's all in the fingers.. those leads at the end? FH is SO clean, what a pro. the solo harmonies sound great.. they have so many hits, seems like they HAVE to play the key Tesla hits onstage, they don't have time to fit in a long, cool cover like this.. I'd love to hear it next time they're in NJ or NYC !
Seeing Michael Schenker play this solo live is worth the price of admission. Frank of course does a great job covering the solo. He's a phenomenal lead guitarist and a Michael Schenker disciple.
Oh definitely. I agree with you about Frank, he is one of the best guitarist I have ever seen. Just absolutely terrific. Tesla does some really great covers.😊
I am so happy that Tesla is going on to be a great looking and sounding. and interesting to see heavy mental band, I will always remember when we were in high school and back then we were going to MT.Eden High School me and Troy the drummer for Tesla, but back then he was involved in a band called Wishper and they had just won the battle of the band's at Chabot college, I just got to see the whole show standing right by Troy I was holding his drum cybel I just got to see the guys by the drum kit for the memories and good times with the one best band in the Bay area and the next time I see anyone else from the band it was at the shore line theater but the only one who was from my high school and the the band Wisper was Troy and then he was the drummer for Tesla and the rest was history and I just got to see the real thing for the memories kids but I will always remember that day and the next time I seen them at the shore line theater and they were great hears to Heavy mental and physical music. thanks again everyone
great band, great cover of a great song, the singer is def one of my top 5 rock singers. his voice sounded like an rock n roll guitar, very cool, very similar to Burton Cummings, saw them in vegas, much respect.
The original live fro UFO Strangers in the Night album, to me is the ultimate version , but I decided to post this one from Tesla since it is a great cover, not that vocals but the instrumental side!! I posted the original live : UFO [ ROCK BOTTOM ] LIVE AUDIO-TRACK,S I T N thnx for tuning in!!
Original UFO, SITN performance... score 100 This Tesla performance... score 99 Every other version I've heard including other videos of UFO live versions and UFO studio... score 70 or less. Exception = The live UFO performances I experienced in person in 79 and 81 which were both 100s. Definitely the most underrated hard rock group and live album in my opinion. Kudos to Tesla for doing such a great tribute.
I grew up on ufo and others, Micheal S. Is a god! Tesla nails it! Great job guys. Dug you guys from the start been to 3 shows. To do this song shows how good you guy got! I try to play parts of this song to do it all tesla, Rock Gods you have become Rock on! I dont care what anyone says ,they dont count anyways say th ROCKING RICHIE. LOVEYOU GUYS MUCH
Bonita Redd if you like this listen to the live version from UFO off Strangers in the Night! And after posting I looked at the date of your post four years ago so hopefully you've heard it by now LOL
This goes to show how much this song inspired so many musicians " this was the song back in the day at partys. . being a bass player my question was always ( D'you play rock bottom "!?
That was some very fine Micheal Shenker playing. I always had Tesla in my top 20 list of favorite rock bands but I really have a new found respect for them cause that sounded as good as MSG or U F O.
yeah, I have that DVD and Jeff's vocals were off that night, esp noticeable on other songs. Having Reel to Real, I like the studio version. But like I said, haven't heard the original, live or studio, so I can't compare vocals. But I do love the way the song rocks!
great harmony, it is a live version of the "live version". Tesla is a great band paying homage to a highly underrated band. i saw them open for ufo during the mechanics tour. they kicked ass. for those talking smack .... i'd like to see you do better.
Same here. I caught Tesla opening for UFO in Los Angeles on the "Mechanix" tour. Most of us in the audience had never heard of Tesla. We missed Shenker but the replacement boys kept the musical pace going, and Phil will always be Phil.
If only Ronnie Romero to get the words right to one single UFO song like Jeff gets it here maybe Michael won't fire him before too long.... UFO Best Rock Band Of All Time !!!
Axe. That's great you posted this I never saw them perform this live only heard it on their covers compilation. I think Jeff Keith with or without a cold couldn't sing this song . Phil's delivery is really aggressive on this song very loud vocals for him. I think Jeff Keith could handle the ballad Try Me from Lights Out even with his rasp.
Jejeje in order to get the sound correct you have to use the Gibson Flying V and the Thunderbird bass congrats this sound great…. (also helps to be a great guitar player like this dude…)
Bad ass cover!!

The Man is right, The best live album ever made.
Stfu!
Bought it in 1980 and still listen to it today
That is without a doubt, the greatest cover tune I have ever seen. I especially like that they kept the song true to the original but made the solo their own. Simply amazing. This is one of the reasons I like Tesla. They always have respect for the music.
Tesla has been A good band for many years. Great balls indeed to play this.SUPER GUITAR WORK
Excellent. As a total Schenker nerd and guitar teacher, I have to say that the solo is a lovely mix of the original studio version and the live version everyone knows and loves. I also really love Tesla. Win-win. 🙂
nothing beats the studio solo...
love the way the bass player is paying the ultimate respect to Pete way during the solo, that was Pete's trademark, plus the thunderbird bass, love it
Frank's touch also makes it sound like Schenker, it's all in the fingers.. those leads at the end? FH is SO clean, what a pro.
the solo harmonies sound great.. they have so many hits, seems like they HAVE to play the key Tesla hits onstage, they don't have time to fit in a long, cool cover like this.. I'd love to hear it next time they're in NJ or NYC !

Excellent guitar work. Michael would be proud. I think
I absolutely agree. NO album influenced my tastes more that Strangers In The Night, and in fact, I still have a copy in my Durango now.
Seeing Michael Schenker play this solo live is worth the price of admission. Frank of course does a great job covering the solo. He's a phenomenal lead guitarist and a Michael Schenker disciple.
Great version. Frank's an awesome guitarist.
Oh definitely. I agree with you about Frank, he is one of the best guitarist I have ever seen. Just absolutely terrific. Tesla does some really great covers.😊

Awesome loved it. Love that Schenker tone baby !!!
That intro was filmed at the company I worked for in Sacramento, upstairs. Kenny Nicolson did the edit for the live DVD that came out years ago.
Wow! Played with love and respect for the original.
Thanks for posting Axe !!!!! Even though this isn't UFO it's cool to see people like Tesla keeping Shenker going !!!!!
Shenker is God :)

That was some very fine Micheal Shenker playing. I always had Tesla in my top 20 list of favorite rock bands but I really have a new found respect for them cause that sounded as good as MSG or U F O.
Tesla was the first band I saw live opening for Def Leppard in 1987 in Rapid City.
I LOVED IT

If only Ronnie Romero to get the words right to one single UFO song like Jeff gets it here maybe Michael won't fire him before too long.... UFO Best Rock Band Of All Time !!!
Nicely said man!
The greatest guitar solo of all time period.
Rock bottom live 2008 remaster by UFO. Michael’s Schenker’s Guitar work is far superior. I’m sure the Tesla guy would agree.
Love ufo
Wicked cool
Mr. Frank Hannon!!! If it should ever be said, it should be said at 7:55!!!!
WOOW !!!!
También para mí "Strangers in the night" es el mejor álbum en vivo en la historia del rock.
Axe. That's great you posted this I never saw them perform this live only heard it on their covers compilation. I think Jeff Keith with or without a cold couldn't sing this
