President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. underscored the important role of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) in “providing affordable and timely diagnosis, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation” to Filipino patients towards the government’s “collective goal of realizing a strong, robust and globally competitive citizenry” during its 40th founding anniversary at the NKTI Building in East Avenue, Quezon City on February 6, 2023.
The President visited the indigent patients presently admitted in the NKTI charity ward who received fruit baskets and hygiene kits from the Office of the President. House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Department of Health (DOH) Officer-in-Charge Dr. Maria Rosario Vergeire, Presidential Son Ilocos Norte First District Representative Ferdinand Alexander Marcos III and NKTI Executive Director Dr. Rose Marie Rosete-Liquete joined the President as he visited the charity ward.
In his keynote speech, President Marcos Jr. lauded the sacrifices and efforts of NKTI medical professionals and personnel for serving almost 400,000 patients who “have been given quality renal care, including transplants, dialysis and treatment sessions” since 1983.
“With many deaths attributed to kidney disease in the country, it is imperative that we ensure that dialysis treatment will be readily available, accessible and cost-effective for our fellow Filipinos,” highlighted the Chief Executive.
“Let us work to build a stronger and healthier future for this and future Filipino generations,” he added as an encouragement to the NKTI health care professionals and staff present during the event.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to grant Guarantee Letters and financial assistance to eligible patients.
The NKTI is now recognized as the National Specialty Center for Renal Care and Organ Transplantation of the country.
Created through Presidential Decree (P.D.) 1832, the former National Kidney Foundation of the Philippines is one of the major projects under the administration of then President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
