Forty years ago, a mainframe of this size has less compute power than my smartphone. Who knows why we would want to fit this super computer in our pockets, but I'm sure it's gonna happen.

It will with quantum chips for smartphones.

The best companies build a company first, in secret. Everything about this company is about selling a product that is inferior. For processors I think value comes from how much it can do in a certain area of wafer, not how big a wafer they can build. It's like NIO vs TSLA. it's a scam. Anthropic is a better pre IPO company and you can't invest in that

@@gpshangariThink it is too early to make such a judgment simply because wafer scale never been done before. Question is the system commercially available or a prototype (theoretical performance is meaningless) and the overall lifetime performance to cost ratio. Like the concept however execution is what counts.

@@goodfodder 2 days after inquiring I am told they are going to offer me pre IPO at a 2B valuation. But in tech there is no 2nd place. Nvidia has all the software integrated, SMCI builds servers around this. there is no way to use this chip unless you build all the support systems. It's not enough to build gas Chambers, you actually have to capture all the long nosed gypsies and then have the legal structure in place to do what needs to be done.
This is the same situation. They have an old tech big chip but without a box and software for free, no one can use it. If they had a different tech, a different advantage it would be better. But the same tech and a way worse ecosystem, built of of AMD rejects it's not good. That's why they all look broke...they are broke

@@goodfodder just fyi i moved to japan to invest in semiconductors. whatever they are pretending to do at cerebras i assure you is nothing to what is going on over here. Fabs are 6nm in Kumamoto and those are behind the 2nm in Taiwan. My goal is to help Japan take back the lead in SC manufacturing. right now most fabrication equipment is out of here we just need to bypass the EUV tin laser to get a smaller wavelength for photolithography.
like i said, cerebrus is basically looking like toddlers playing with those big lego blocks compared to japan and taiwan
