      so drew. now that your doing albums from meshuggah. please god do Violent sleep of reason next. easily one of the most underrated albums they have and in my opinion is the best concept album of that decade easily. extremely amazing effects, ryhthm, dream like state. and mind meltingly groovy breakdowns. its a different pace than some of the others and may take a minute to get used to. but once you do your definetley there XD.

      I agree. I just saw Meshuggah live the other week and they are still machines and they sound as good as ever. That would be better live than on album. I assumed they didn't play Bleed beause they wanted to play something else for a change but the set was very short, like 1h 30mins? They are getting old and they are also perfectionists so if you want to see these legends in action you better go next time they are in town

    Meshuggah use 4/4 a lot, that's kind of the genius of them. They trick you into thinking something's simple when it's not. They basically use rhythms that dance in and out of the 4/4 bar structure. You can notice this often by hearing Tomas Haake keep a 4/4 rhythm in the background on a crash symbol whilst the rest of the band go mental outside of that structure.

    • @leviathan3630
      @leviathan3630 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      whats nuts is he doesn't even play 4/4 on the cymbals in some parts on a lot of these songs, he just starts hitting the crashes in weird accents that compliment the riff, for example the solo in The Abysmal Eye

    • @MFKitten

      @JM Coulon Broken Cog is such a trip. Sounds like a simple intro song until you try to figure out the beginning chugs (5 rest rest 13 rest rest) in rhythmic sense. You can almost count them in 7 pulses or 11 pulses before they repeat and it still feels right. Once the snare comes in you are locked into a 4/4 feel but the chug patterns are woven in such a bizarre way. The main groove halfway through the song is definitely a 6/8 (or 12/8 for sakes of the guitar riff).

    This is the first album I've heard from Meshuggah - yeah, I'm definitely late to the party. Really intense and surprisingly emotional album. I've been reading Angela Carter's Heroes and Villains while listening to it for the second time [first time I was concentrating on the music, third time I listened and watched with you :)] and it was such a fitting soundtrack to the book that I felt it appropriate to mention it here. I really liked that second listen as the music gave additional feeling to the words I was reading and vice versa.
    For me, this is one of those albums where the songs are like chapters. If you listen to any of the segments alone they always feel like they are missing something but together everything makes sense [especially the feeling of repetition].
    Thank you for the reaction and I miss polls all the time so: I love album reactions. Definitely keep those up! I hope you won't have any more trouble with this video though 🙂

    I think "I Am That Thirst" is one of the best songs on this record, even better following "Black Cathedral" in the context of the album, but the second half of that track floors me every time I hear it, to burst into that amazing groove and drum pattern coming out of that middle section is fucking infectious. Just my two cents. It's so menacing and it flows so beautifully, that riff and drum pattern swimming on Tomas' crash keeping the back beat, then you get immediately pummeled by "The Faultless", and then of course "Armies" to finish the listener off for good. The last 3 tracks just fucking kill (not counting "Past Tense").

    This album is perfect this is the first album I’ve ever listened to that I can safely say I like literally every single song. Most albums have usually only a few good songs and the rest are meh but literally every single song is so hype

      Agree. Was a few songs skipped on Koloss in later years on every play. The likes of into decay and by the ton on VSOR too.
      The slower sludgier stuff far more on point on this album. The groove tunes will always be magnificent, nobody does it like them.

      @@deployedbyinversesuns5038 Every song on both those records are still better than this new one. Not sure what you lot are on about... This is their most disappointing release to date. They peaked with VSOR. I still very much enjoy this record but it really isn't as good.

    Not very metal, which is probably why nobody else has mentioned it, but look after your ears at the gig! Get a decent pair of musician's earplugs (or any earplugs). I stood next to a drumkit at practice for years and am glad I started to wear them when I did. Stay safe!

    Mate your the best for doing these , honestly, in my opinion the best meshuggah reactions on youtube, cause you represent what all us fans wanna see. Your not an expert in this music, not some far gone metalhead that hates anything conventional, just a regular person who's willing to give it a go, give it an honest listen and find out for yourself just how groovy and amazing the band is, something we wish we saw in our loved ones, our families and friends who just write it off as noise. We know you appreciate the music but we appreciate you just as much, for giving it a go and letting the spectacular nature or the band reveal itself to you through genuine attempts at understanding their magic. Thank you

    This is by far the best Meshuggah album imo.
    Older fans might think that is blasphemous, and I adore a lot of the older records. But they hit supernatural levels of creativity on this record; the atmosphere they create on e.g., Broken Cog and They Move Below, takes me to places in music I didn't think I could go to. And their guitar tone on here was the best it's ever been in my book.
