The Rut is no joke. A juvenile male deer came at me as I was going to my mail box. I thought how cute. Then his nose started twitching.
He came closer and started to go at me with his antlers. Next thing I was gored in the arm and he was pushing me to the ground.
I don't know if it was adrenaline or what but I was able to grab both antlers and push him away enough to slip under the fence and run to my house.
Then off to the hospital to get stitched up!
I'm not too fond of walking Outdoors now without a weapon.

Never make eye contact with a wild creature. Women should be aware that certain times of the month they should probably not go into the wild. A quick movement can set some wild animals off especially a turn of the back or attempt at running. Moose are very unpredictable. I have a couple stories but, will not post them here concerning moose.

#1 seeing a fellow hiker chasing a moose in the river...

Moose are very agile. They can turn & change position very quickly. Plus, they have short bursts of speed & can accelerate quickly. You do not ever want to approach or antagonize one. We looked at each other for a few seconds then I turned my head to get my phone for a picture. When I turned around - gone. You know I really have a problem when people say “oh we were out hiking/ camping/ driving etc “ in hopes to encounter or catch a glimpse at these magnificent animals, but honestly aren’t aware of any danger they are about to experience or potentially cause harm to the animals by simply being in their habitat. That Moose was kind enough to give them a warning ⚠️ He Bluff charged them and could easily plowed & gored them as he trampled throughout the shelter. Seriously please think of your surroundings and know when it’s rutting time, you’re basically at the mercy of your own will to make it out of the situation and tell the story of how you 🫵🏽💩👖… or maybe better yet educate others about safety and what our own actions can lead to in terms of death, the rangers would have to track down and euthanize that Bull Moose if he decided to protect himself and his territory. Shame on any National Park that doesn’t provide protection for the animals and post warnings for those humans who just don’t… okay so um yeah I leaving my opinion at this point… obviously I have ranted on lengthy enough..
Please be mindful of where you are and all animals that live in the area you are visiting

You walked across the US? Way to go you! Are there connecting trails, did you take a meandering route or follow highways? We have the Trans Canada Trail here, it incorporates woodland trails and paved sidewalks for biking, walking, horseback riding, anything non motorized. My husband and I were walking one section without realizing it, we kept saying we'll turn around at trails end, thought we were in a park, nope. We eventually saw a sign marking the trail, definitely a much longer walk than we had planned.

First time I saw a moose in the wild was in the northern Idaho panhandle. We were driving down the road when he came out of nowhere. Luckily my husband slammed on the brakes and we missed him. But we were in a very low car and I swear we could have driven under his belly. If I opened the sunroof I could tickle his belly. My Dad is a hunter so I immediately called him and I described the moose and his color, black. He informed me that it was a ‘small’ moose. OMG I never want to meet a bigger one. A local said one time a moose attacked his VW and completely destroyed it.
In Yellowstone we saw a mommy moose and her baby. Some idiot decided to get up close to take a picture. What’s wrong with these people? Never never get between a mom and her baby. Luckily the guy made it back to his car.
Moose are mean and dangerous. Never confront them.

Rutt season? A male moose? I heard the same thing back in my canoeing and backpacking days. I saw some from a short distance and I have to say they are one of the oddest and ugliest animals I’ve ever seen.
