HAIL, O Star of the ocean, God's own Mother blest, ever sinless Virgin, gate of heav'nly rest. Taking that sweet Ave, which from Gabriel came, peace confirm within us, changing Eve's name. Break the sinners' fetters, make our blindness day, Chase all evils from us, for all blessings pray. Show thyself a Mother, may the Word divine born for us thine Infant hear our prayers through thine. Virgin all excelling, mildest of the mild, free from guilt preserve us meek and undefiled. Keep our life all spotless, make our way secure till we find in Jesus, joy for evermore. Praise to God the Father, honor to the Son, in the Holy Spirit, be the glory one. Amen.
Ave maris stella, Dei Mater alma, atque semper Virgo, felix caeli porta. Sumens illud Ave Gabrielis ore, funda nos in pace, mutans Hevae nomen. Solve vincula reis, profer lumen caecis mala nostra pelle, bona cuncta posce. Amen.
Thanks for these videos, I'm trying to become familiarized with chant at mass and looking at songs we have in our current missal. QUESTION: what is the reason for this being an Easter chant? The lyrics don't seem to hint at Eastet specifically. Thanks again!
Es wird u. a. taeglich gebetet mit "veni creator spiritus" zur Vorbereitung auf die Marienweihe (Goldenes Buch des hl. Ludwig Maria Grignion v. Montfort)🙂
They're monks. They're not professional singers. Most monks and nuns can't even read music when they enter the monastery, they have no past experience in choirs, and no vocal training. They sing to pray.
Some people dislike God and the Church...that is all. It is properly sung in it's style. If you sing this like an opera singer it will not sound in style. And if you sing opera as a Gregorian Chant it won't sound in style either...
The pig ignorance of the modern Church never ceases to astound me. I can't understand why we threw out all this beautiful music - sung in every church in the Catholic world - for folk music Fairport Convention would have found twee and embarassing, just to seem 'relevant' and 'modern'.
"Before Christ's second coming the Church must pass through a final trial that will shake the faith of many believers. The persecution that accompanies her pilgrimage on earth will unveil the "mystery of iniquity" in the form of a religious deception offering men an apparent solution to their problems at the price of apostasy from the truth. the supreme religious deception is that of the Antichrist, a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh." Catechism of the Catholic Church (art. n°675).
Vous vous amusez tout le temps vraiment.

this is easier to read than the treble clef cause you can actually see the movement of the notes easier.
Bellíssimo!

St. Dominic de Guzman used to sing it which was then popular and a norm.

I believe this cited connection to Easter is in error. This hymn is however associated with the month of May, dedicated to Our BVM.

UGH - could the audio bitrate be any lower?!?!
Who is this Originally sung by? like the maker?
ola
Why 4 dislikes?
Probably because there is little to no phrasing. They sing well, but that's about it.
They're monks. They're not professional singers. Most monks and nuns can't even read music when they enter the monastery, they have no past experience in choirs, and no vocal training. They sing to pray.
What exactly do you mean by "phrasing" anyway? They sang the chant properly and beautifully, from my hearing and reading of it.
