    If you watch to the end, there's a nice little beaver sighting, and ya Willow goes racing after it. And don't forget to subscribe to the Booxefest Channel if you want to come out to my livestreams: th-cam.com/channels/ukaJ4wuW155GIBeEttTOyg.html

    Your a real trooper Russ! Most people may not notice, but i notice when you put your camera on the trail to watch you walk it just so you can walk back and get your camera. Lots of extra walking in that mess, all for us! TY

    Your pain is our gain! Thanks for keeping it real and showing all the hard work involved. You have done amazing things at your place. The pallet ramp was a good fix. I just love watching ATV stuff, even the winching and makeshift repairs and such. It is tough for you in the moment, but just remember at those times that it will be instructive for us.

    Thanks for sharing your mishaps with us. Your channel has been very informative when SHTF. So far I haven’t found another channel that shares their everyday mishaps while living off grid like yours.

    Videos like this help the rest of us learn from your experience. My 11 yr old and I talked through how to avoid this in the first place, and how to try to resolve it if we had to. 1. What to take with you on every trip: rope, come along, etc. 2. How to use levers: log under the front end to lift up and get traction to rear wheels, tilt pallets up to place weight on tongue of trailer and get traction to rear wheels, etc. 3. Flip flop winch.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Can’t believe your patience, this tome and all the rest! Lost a set of golf clubs in the woods. Luckily a few were not too hard to find because they were wrapped around a tree. Get back safe and sound and knock the bottom out of a couple and all is good!

    We had a beaver chewing up all the trees on our island in the Kawarthas...can't shoot them so we made a potato gun to scare them off. works great! ONe shot over the bow, haven't seen him all season!

    Shit happen sometimes. Just 08-5 this week I get deliver the new outlander 1000XTP and the first ride I thought just go for 10 minutes ride behind the house in forest and I already drove in those area in winter .imagine the bike front side fall in deep water tell cluster. The most painful ever for new machine. Two hours In water tell I pulled over. After that the power loses and felt no pulling . No more trust lakes in forest.

  • @TheBibliofilus
    @TheBibliofilus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Been there, done that. Best just to bite the bullet and wade in and get wet by standing in the water and pushing with legs while giving it throttle to get over the tree-stump and in that case put a pallet in front to climb the ATV up on.

    • @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin
      @RaspberryRockOffGridCabin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My old Honda ATV I could man-handle somewhat, but I can't budge this big Can-Am. Pushing doesn't do much.

    • @TheBibliofilus
      @TheBibliofilus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, also gotten a Can-Am and it's close to 500kg and my old Suzuki is under 300kg (which I could lift each end of to move it!), makes getting stuck interesting :)
      Another alternative would be cutting a fresh long tree down and levering it forward, "luckily" most Can-Am's have a big built-in rear trunk to fit axes, foldable saws tow straps etc maybe for a reason... Also there is Mr. Murphy that tells you that a winch will fail when you need it the most, like breaking the line close to the drum on a inaccessible winch!
      Wish there was a way to temporarily disable the reverse limiter though as it makes reversing out of getting stuck close to impossible as it requires two hands limiting ability to push.

  • @louellahubbell6514
    @louellahubbell6514 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Russell just put the pallets that you have underneath the front wheels in a long row and drive the atv over them. Then you will get unstuck from that nasty mess in the mud and water. I feel your frustration at the trouble you are having and i am pretty sure if you place the pallets underneath the front tires you can get out.

    @patrickinottawa27 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Russ, I know it's a pain in the A$$. Why don't you use this as a "great opportunity". Run back in a day or two with the chain saw and cut a detour around these bad areas of the trail, at least then you have the trail and an alternate when the trail is trashed. What you cut down toss into the mud to fill the holes, especially that hole you threw the palette into. Make it safer for you and Alicia. Glad to see you got the ATV out alright. Glad to see you didn't take a mud bath either.

    Russell that took real genius to take the ATV thru a pond where u know full well you'll no doubt get stuck. I do see plenty dry land to go around temporally until u can make a Couterious road. or just add a Warn winch to the front of ur ATV unless u really enjoy Makin e Xtra work for your self.

      @@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin , as you know I'm watching all the videos from day one (or vid one), I have watched a few current day, so know you are still alive and well and somehow I missed that you got a new ATV ! Lol...I guess I wasn't looking at it that closely in the new vids! You have the patience of Jobe! Most people don't show these kinda days, or if they do, it's highly edited. You are about as true life as it comes I do believe. You may not know this as it pertains more to different genres on YT - more on Instagram, anyway...so this new "phenomenon" is (mostly women) who are home makers, and also work , kids etc...their feedback has been they are "not relatable" as what they put out to the viewers is so edited , just snaps of a perfect vignette of a corner of a room everything in place a "perfect picture" ...yet, the other 95% of the room is a disaster, toys everywhere, dishes not done, loads of laundry to be folded, etc. Real life. So, women are now staging, get this...a "mess" ...to be more relatable. Sigh. Sometimes, ya just have to think " what in the hell has gone wrong with this world". Ok...I think that a lot actually. Anyway, this video just made me think about this new thing happening in social media, and the stark contrast to your channel. Real life. Every day. Unedited, (well- edited yes, but you know what I mean). It's such a refreshing change. I guess maybe that's why everyday I work through a few more of these older videos. It also really makes me feel closer to my roots. I live about 50 km outside of Toronto now, and for many years lived and worked downtown Toronto, I've been here for over 25 years, but I was born and raised in NB on a 10,000 acre farm. It was crappy land, mostly rock (your challenges with your bed rock make me remember the many summers spent "picking rocks" before potato planting season. Every year we hauled more loads of rock out of the fields, we had lots of land for many generations but it was poor land not really suitable for much of anything. Well thanks for coming to my walk down memory lane. These days when you face such adversity you remind people that perseverance patience and some good planning are cornerstone to working through most of what life throws at us.
      Glad to hear about the new ATV and that winch got repaired!

      How different our lives are, eh? But one day when I finish this cabin I'd like to do some singing. Have you ever thought of doing vocal lessons by skype?

    Hey I'm just an old lady but I would have thrown the pallets in front of it for traction!

    Learn how to make a simple Flip Flop winch . Those are used to assist u in moving heavy items. U just need 2 long poles and some rope ( strong rope)

    Hmm, who'd of thunk that the water level dropping would make that hole more difficult.

      I'm not exactly sure what happened, but when I had my hand down there I was definitely up against something. And you can also see as the the back of the ATV lifted in the air as I was jacking it forward. Anyway, the pallet makes the main trail accessible again.

      Raspberry Rock - Off Grid Cabin Yes, it totally looked like your frame or skid plate sat down on something and the wheels couldn't get a good grip anymore.
