There is a recess on either side of the spool reducer.. this allows you to place a flat head screw driver or something similar in to the cut out to pop it open by twisting the tool used
Even with the reducer it still holds WAY too much line. If you can have your best cast at 150 meters, then the reel should hold 200 meters. Most of that line you'll never use and will just be wasted when it's replaced.
I have the Shimano ultegra XTE 14000 reels and if i use the spool reducers and spool up with GTHD 15lb line @.35mm and the bulk spools hold 1030m of line ,, how many reel spools can i expect to get out of the bulk spool .. hope this makes sense

0.35 mainline 1030m = 4 spools
