That much damage the boat is being pushed too hard. Either that or the systems are so worn out a long voyage should never have been attempted. When the comment was "no wind" it looked to me like there was more than enough to make way, definitely not flat calm, so my bet is the pressure of needing to catch flights and get across meant the boat was pushed beyond limits. Not a good idea on a sailboat. You do not want rigging breakage and the mast down which could have been the next disaster.
