Railroad spikes are great to star off with. you will need to be able to heat them up. you will learn to hammer, twist and shape metal. plus you can find them everywhere.
I don't care if it's made of clay. If you can forge it looks cool and it will cut. Mission accomplished. . if someone made this. And gave it to me ..... I would be soooo thankful. Love your video....🔨🔥
Fun vid with a fun knife. I visited a knife show a while back and people forge knives out of anything metal: cables, nails, files, etc. It's pretty neat!
The quality of a railroad spike can really vary. If you can find ones with HC or C on the head, they are hardened carbon steels and work far better then the garden variety spikes. Good vid bud! Funny bloopers ;)
+Feral Woodcraft haha thanks and ya the railroad spikes are kinda hard to get what you want with em sometimes. My friend has went through a couple of em.
Great vid with the R/R spike. R/R steel has to be soft in order for the rail to hold without breakage, so yeah, it will harden some in the process of forging a knife, but nothing I'd trust my life to. I do contract work for R/R corps across the country and spike knives are common to see,and there are some absolutely gorgeous spike knives that have been made.
great vid. I've often wondered about a railroad spike knife and how it would hold up. so I guess with some heat treatment and a few feet of para cord for the handle, you would have a decent knife.

+Teays River Bushlore Ya,if i made one i would make a round handle and wrap it with leather or wilson wrap and use it as a beater knife.
Good video! Love the bloopers!
"Oh crap!"
+cillaloves2fish Haha thanks for the comment!

+Tony Dowd Ya,that one was heat treated but just not enough. It would be a good "beater knife" though.
it held its own! thats a very nice one too! i hope you go with your gut and make one bro would love to see your knives!
+TAC-HILL Ya,sometime this year i will start. Maybe i will get you to make some ferro rods for them.
Best bloopers ever.
+Aaron Rowe Haha thanks man.
You really wanted comments... but I couldn't think of anything, so this is it
+The perfect shot Haha this is perfect! Lol
how about a how to video. build us something. a basic shelter. or maybe a bug out bag .
+Tyler Glidden That will be next year when their are leaves or when we get a big snow so i can make a snow shelter. Might do that soon though
I love the look of the handle, to bad it isn't comfortable. Just saying it looks cool, just not practical.
+Brett Steele Ya,it looked really pretty in my opinion too but you know style over comfort doesnt always win.
