Ruben Amorim Suits Liverpool More than Alonso - Here's Why

  • I believe that Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim are the outstanding coaching prospects to replace Jurgen Klopp but I think in some ways, Amorim suits Liverpool long term, more than Alonso for a few reasons. That is not to say that I discount Alonso who is my favorite Liverpool player and who would be my 1st choice as the next Liverpool manager to replace Klopp, but I would certainly be very happy with Ruben Amorim!

    Both Amorim and Alonso could be very successful Liverpool managers, but only 1 would stick around long term to create a dynasty of success. Would this have any impact on your preference? Let me know below, would love to hear your thoughts! YNWA

      I think you're SPOT ON with your analysis and I'm so glad that I happened to come across this video on my Timeline because the work you put into it has definitely not gone unnoticed so I'm not meaning to be disrespectful to the other Liverpool reporters and channels, like the Blood Red Podcast for example, when saying that your in depth takes are much better.
      You definitely gained a Subscriber and if you were some how able to translate Endo's book I would absolutely love it since he's not just one of my favorite Liverpool players, but players in general, since I've been a big fan of his since he was at Stuttgart asw as when he rose to stardom as Japan's Captain/engine in the National Team. I was probably one of the very few fans that was Over the Moon when he signed for Liverpool, and even moreso when I found out that he truly wanted to join us for a new challenge in his career instead instead of it being more of a last minute forced signing/release clause being triggered, because if he had honestly wanted to remain and potentially retire at Stuttgart I don't believe that there was any amount of money that could've persuaded him to leave due to how loyal or a player/person that he is. I also knew what he would bring after he eventually adjusted to to physicality of the Premier League because although he's small in stature, like all of that other great Japanese players atm(Mitoma, Kubo, Kawabe, Tomiyasu, etc) who rely on their hard work and technical ability, as opposed to natural athletic ability(as far as stature is concerned), which helps them become more press resistant and have longer careers in their Prime(Endo at 31 can perform at the Top Level for at MIN another 5 years for these reasons imho) so I would've rather had us sign him initially ahead of Caicedo, who's worse and a 1 Season Wonder that was 6x as expensive, or especially Lavia, because with either of them in our team atm ahead of Endo I honestly don't believe that we're tied for 1st in the PL with 10 games left, but instead fighting for Top 4 or even worse European football in general, since he completely solidify our defense and a key reason that we have the best defense in the League this Season tbh.
      As far as your take goes today I do believe that regardless of how much I love Xabi Alonso as a former Liverpool player and HC I do believe that Amorim is better suited to take over the Head Coaching job at Liverpool rn asw however my only concern is about our key players(VVD, Salah, and TAA) choosing to resign if he becomes the new Liverpool HC because as good of a fit at HC that I believe Amorim is he just isn't going to get a fraction of the initial respect from the players/fans that Alonso would, so not only do I hope that it doesn't affect the players decisions to resign if we're lucky enough to get him, but his decision to come asw while knowing that he really needs to make a great first impression since the majority of the players/fans first, and ONLY, choice was Xabi so I just really hope and pray that that burnen on his shoulders doesn't scare him off because there really isn't a 3rd choice for myself currents since other then those 2 getting hired I would be pretty upset, at least initially, if we were to sign someone unproven like Ze Zerbi of someone else to be perfectly honest yn.

    While Alonso is my sentimental choice, Ruben Amorim stylistically is closer to Klopp than Alonso. His man management skills and tactical acumen are excellent. Make no mistake, Liverpool is a massive job and requires a courageous manager with character who will be his own man. Let's see how this develops.

    • @liverpooljapan
      @liverpooljapan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Yes, he definitely has some outstanding attributes and personality wise, I don't think anything except winning is on his mind and he will fight tooth and nail to get what he needs. That's my impression of Amorim at least! Looking forward to how it all unfolds.

  • @georgezivanai4869
    @georgezivanai4869 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    I concur with you, Amorim can give us a lot of years, even 10+, which gives him the motivation and ability to become a Liverpool legend. Alonso was part of the 2005 miracle comeback and am sure he would love to come back as a manager as well, however Real Madrid indeed will always be asking. Hence I can't see a 10+ years (or even 5 years) in Alonso. Munich, yeah, but I don't see it. Yes he is part of Munich history, but only "just another player". In Liverpool and Madrid, he is a legend, and has the potential to become a manager legend as well. He risks getting fired after 1 - 2 years at Munich, as they demand far more in short time scope i.e. Champions League than he would be demanded at Liverpool. Having said that, for stability, I vote Amorim.

    Hi Liverpool fan in Japan,
    a good look at how Amorin would set up his team if he was the boss.
    So many options and variations for the new manager. Exiting times ahead i believe. Would be great to see a new formation with the existing players we have, i think a 3-4-3 system would be great and offer the players a better chance of expressing their qualities. This squad is full of potential and with the right set up who knows where it could go!

    I’ve been leaning toward Amorim for the last 4-5 weeks! The more I’ve looked into him the more impressed I am by him! The player development is insane! The style of play isn’t a million miles off from what this team has been used to under jurgen. And if you listen to the experts in Portugal his character and relationship with his players is similar to jurgens! I love Xabi he is in my top 3 Liverpool midfielders of all time along with souness and gerrard! And the job he is doing out in Germany is incredible! But I feel the sample size is still to small? I genuinely mean this when I say that I hope Xabi is the real deal and if he never manages us then I wish him all the success in the world! Whether it be with Bayern or Real Madrid? I love the guy! But I feel Amorim is ahead of him in terms of progression. He’s the one for me.

      I'm the biggest Xavi Alonso fan but I really like Amorim asw and think he suits Liverpool as a team better right now tbh. The only issue that I have with Ruben is that I'm concerned about players like VVD, Salah, and TAA resigning(In THAT Order with VVD being that ABSOLUTE priority wheras Salah and TAA are basically tied for importance imho) if he becomes the next Liverpool Head Coach because idk how much that our current big time players respect Amorim as a coach. Whereas Alonso that would gain that respect immediately due to his reputation as not only a World Class Head Coach, but more importantly a World Class player, so that is my only concern with Liverpool signing him atm in our current situation, so I really hope that I'm wrong in this assessment, but I'd love to know what you think Guys.

    as soon as Amorin was announced as a candidate I did a thorough research on him and he does seem like the perfect fit, Alonso would have to change quite a bit from his Leverkusen set up and way of play, whilst Amorim almost looks like a Klopp 2.0 while arguably being better when it comes to possession, I feel like Liverpool have looked dodgy in possession during Klopp's era which cost them at times and if Amorim can improve that then Liverpool can keep fighting for the top regularly, got a great variety of players now, great mixture, so there is no reason why this shouldnt work out

    • @liverpooljapan
      @liverpooljapan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      Indeed, it is a self fulfilling prophecy. I would also think that if he were offered the Liverpool job and stayed at Leverkusen, then ultimately his target would be to take over Ancelotti at Real Madrid. However, there is also the scenario where Liverpool never approach him and go straight to their preferred candidate whether its Amorim or someone else. Either way, I trust Michael Edwards to get us the right man and Richard Hughes to convince him.

    Great video really like love these type of tactical insights. I actually feel long term Bajcetic and Endo will be fighting for one role in the first team with the other CDM being Macca. With the premises of Mo leaving I can then see Szbo playing in one of the attacking free roles alongside Lucho/Jota/Harvey etc. I think this system would suit Trent higher up...pretty much how you highlighted in the video with role focusing more on his creative skillset rather than him being an aggressive full back who bombs down the flank. Unknown...but also exciting times ahead. I also agree with you about Alonso not being long term. i actually feel he will be the Madrid manager within the next 2 years(which I would prefer him to do first). Once he's got Madrid out of his system then he could become Liverpool manager on a longer term basis...but that wouldn't be until he is in his late 40's/early 50's!

Endo, Bacjetic, Mac Allister and even Jones, McConnel, Morton offer such variety and different attributes in that deeper position that the new manager will be super keen to get them in training and work out some good combinations! If the stars align and there is a vacancy and he is available, then somewhere down the line, he could be a very good appointment. That being said, Amorim could well have been top of the list for now, even with Alonso available!

    4:30 .....you actually got me thinking of Xabi from a different angle.
    I always knew Xabi will move onto RM after his stint in Liverpool.......so personally I want would want a long term manager.
    Never was a fan of the constant merry-go-round of firing and hiring of managers.
    But Amorim......do seemed like the type of manager who would stay longer if backed properly.
    I am just biased towards Xabi because I had always followed Xabi's career over the years ...especially since he retired from pro football.😊
    Personally my faves would include Frank Thomas for his previous work with youth development and his tactics.....and how he helped Brentford get promoted to ePL and stay up.
    Imagine Frank with this Liverpool squad who could carry out his tactics 😮
    Nagelsmann and Spalleti are my other faves.
    Spalleti is on a sabbatical since he won the Scudetto.......and I love his tactics in Napoli last season.

    Great commentary as always. As you were going through the formation, I couldn't help but think that
    the setup is not far off from Alonso's layout in that it's like either 2 #10s or 1 #8 and 1 #10. In both, it's worrying about how/where our wingers fit. If Szobo and Salah are both behind Nunez, does that mean only Szobo has more responsibility to press, drop back into mid or would both be expected to? Pressing is not really Salah's game.

    Great video my friend, I'm still favouring Alonso, his previous affinity for club helps but he is also a great fit for our squad too, versatile in his tactical set ups, but if not him, totally agree that amorin stands out as a great fit also, those 2 are clear of the pack imo, I believe both can continue developing this young squad we have, I'm not worried at all about jurgen leaving, sad obviously, but we have all the tools needed to improve further, possibly a settling in season but still see us as top 4 with new coach. You should be amorin agent 🙂 really excited to see them develop Bradley further, and our other youngsters, so xabi is my 1st choice, with amorin very close second, probably rhe sentiment that tips the scales with xabi maybe a littlw more offensive minded, both play attractive football though. I think both would stick around for 5+ years all being well, lets hope we get the best man for the job. Keep up the good work, thanks from Liverpool. Shout out for our samurai warrior waturo Endo. Thanks for this great analysis, Si. I wasn't at all familiar with his play style but it sounds like he'll be a good fit for Liverpool.
    1 of the names that rarely gets thrown as our new manager (but is still mentioned from time to time) is Inzaghi from Inter. What do you think of him and do you think he can be a good fit for Liverpool? After all, Inter seem to be doing relatively fine under him, got to Champions League final which is something that our board is keen for the new manager to be able to do.
    Cheers!

    My questions would be If you'd believe in Trent playing alongside MacAllister in that system (especially considering that Amorim has the tendencies for going more direct than Alonso)
    Another question is If you could see Endo playing as a CB in that formation, either as one that actually start as a CB (which could be actually more like a RCB of a back 3, where you had Konate), or a de facto central CB disguised as a DM (where you'd have him playing more like where you had Gomez).
    Also, keeping in mind that a starting XI isn't a closed thing, and that the new UCL should call for extra squad rotation, with 2 extra games and different qualification format with implications of an extra preliminary knockout stage before the last 16 (much like the current UEL knockout format) if your record in that new "league phase" is 9th through 24h instead of the top8 overall record. So there should be less space for overall weaker XIs in the new UCL format than the current group stage format (even If Klopp wasn't really of rotating there even when securing qualification and top of the group status) and I see rotation coming more like we did with the first 4 UEL games this season where we'd be changing around 3 to 5 names for fresh legs, but naming strong XIs overall for all matches.

    If Liverpool wins the Premier League this season then that could have an impact on how the new manager sets up his team next season. He may want to retain as much of the winning formula as possible and not shake things up too much for a title defence. Maybe Alonso suits that better since you say he is more flexible than Amorim and can therefore continue with, and improve on what Klopp has built this season.

      I've had similar thoughts tbh, not sure he is really ready to retire, I would like to see him take a role like spearing has coaching with the squad and also under 21 player/coach role as the allowed over age player for u 21 games, retiring from 1st team involvement, at 32 is he ready to do that and take the massive drop in wages or would require. Possibly sees himself playing maybe MLS or Saudi for couple more seasons if he can get fit again, maybe then take on an academy coaches role. He would be a great example for our youngsters, especially likes of Bajcetic, + helping Trent become a centre mid. Offers a bit of continuity too if he stays, not a bad shout but I do see him leaving tbh. 👍

      The Comparison between De-Zerbi and Alonso's achievements, is in *Diametric Opposition.*
      Remember; This is Alonso's Second season at Leverkusen, he took them from being *Relegation battlers, to European Places, unto Title Contenders, in two seasons, all on a *shoe string budget.*
      De Zerbi qualified Brighton for Europe last season, and is at best going to repeat same, or suffer a decline, which Presupposes an unprogressive vacillation, which doesn't necessarily make him a bad Coach, but can be excused for Functioning in an extremely tough terrain; the Premier League.
      Even if Alonso came second, he would have manifested a *Quantum Leap.* The man would have already proved his Mettle.
      What would you want to see in his third season?😂

      @@bolajitaiwo9032 I agree with you about the *Several Other Good Coaches Theory,* no man is a repository of all knowledge, after all.
      De-Zerbi is way too Tactically Unilateral for my liking, and his style is way too expansive, and completely devoid of thrust against well set up counter structures, wouldn't want him at Liverpool too.
      I however think Xabi is on another level. What I like the most about him; is his willingness to alter his usual formation, which usually leaves a shock effect on opponents, that's why his team wins so many games.
      He'll do well in the UCL and the EPL, without a doubt, my only concern is; he might be dreaming of the Madrid Job, for sometime in the future, might come at a time we are yet reveling in his brilliance, and the heroics of our boys, such a sudden departure might offer a destructive shock to our system.

    • @liverpooljapan
      @liverpooljapan  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Indeed, they are! They are one of the biggest clubs in the history of football. What I would say though is they are not best placed in this particular scenario for many reasons.
      Jumping from Leverkusen to Bayern in a season where Leverkusen trounced Bayern and the fans would instantly turn on their recent hero. It would be in bad taste and stink of sour grapes and the reception he gets when he turns up there in the league...
      Bayern's squad is not super competitive on the world stage right now
      There are lots of politics in the club and lots of back stabbing
      The Leaders do not seem to be pulling in the same direction and even those with the Bayern Identity like Kimmich, Neuer, Muller etc are marginalized by the overall struggles
      Alphonso Davies to Madrid won't go away
      He would have more pressure for sure to perform in a quicker time frame as historically, Liverpool will give the manager much more time.
      Bayern's youngster pool is not formidable at the moment, which means a transfer market led strategy and time to bed them in.
      That being said, Bayern is huge, but if it was a straight shoot out, Liverpool seems so much more logical to me. I would think that staying at Leverkuen and going to Madrid next year, is more attractive, than Bayern, but just my thoughts.

    Alonso will be a Solid acquisition, what I love the most about him structurally, is his *Tactical Flexibility,* he sets up based on the strengths and frailties of the Opposition, with the sole aim of beating whoever is before him. That is *Progressive Pragmatism,* something I wished Klopp would have Practiced, if he had; he would have been more successful in the Trophy haul.
    The biggest challenge however with Alonso is; I don't see him establishing a *Long Term Dynasty at Liverpool,* he's always going to be side eyeing *Real Madrid.*
    We are a Club that thrives under *Managerial Longevity.*
    *My Heart wants ALONSO, My head Screams AMORIM.*
    One *Caveat* though;
    Whoever comes in, must play *TRENT IN MIDFIELD,* we have the Potential world most creative player in there, the liberty to express his most Innate proclivities in his most natural habitat, for maximum productivity, must be Granted.
    Trent beside or slightly ahead of Endo, Macalister behind the front men, will be an incredibly imperious Midfield. Szoboszlai is great, but the earlier mentioned three, are another worldly in specific positions.
    *You'll Never Walk Alone Mate.* Great Job.

    Would Alonso be experienced enough as manager to be a Liverpool -manager already? Some players are immediately good managers, even great managers, and Alonso has worked miracles in Bayer Leverkusen, but some are not. With all the respect with Leverkusen, but it´s not Liverpool. Another question about replacement managers: I´m old enough to having seen and remembering managers coherently since Bob Paisley, and there´s been changes, do we want another "klopp" even if we´d of course love another such person? Or is it time for something else? Should Liverpool consider Leverkusen´s Florian Wirtz, if possible?
