I agree. I think that its a mix of push and pull. The push is the normalising of the Aintree fences ( they are now mere hurdles covered in spruce ) and a lack of opportunites. The pull is the galamor and lure of the Velka and the not inconsiderable prize of about 70 thou which is much bigger than anything at Punchestown or Cheltenham. Its only a matter of time before the like of Mulllins, Nicholls, O'Neill win it.

tigerarmyrule British very pretentious who should better learn about the outdoors! The best English come to buy their best horses (especially aqps horses) in France for over 20 years and will win all the greatest races in the UK and try from time to time to face the French at Auteuil (Paris) on Hedge hurdles but never on their steeplechase obstacles because the French are unbeatable! Look at the biggest French race of the Grand steeplechase of Paris and you'll understand why the English have no chance to compete ...

The National is still the world's toughest race but what makes Pardubicka special is the variety. You have plenty of water jumps, double jumps, crests, hard landings and the amount of turns takes its toll on even the most agile of horses. No Point-to-Point in Britain, Ireland or elsewhere is as storied and as tough.

Polish trainer of French bred horse with several Irish and UK raiders. The Velka is internationalising and it is only a matter of time til the big UK and Irish yards dominate.

Actually at its beginnings Velká Pardubická was as popular as Grand National. Many international jockeys participated in it until the communist regime in Czechoslovakia begin.

Great race, and no Clare Balding. UK and Irish entries are common, but with the softening of the GN and the only other cross country race at Cheltenham not having such obstacles, it is now difficult to find suitable racing opportunities.

This race is much harder than I had heard. The horses that took part must be as tough as old Czech salt-mining boots.

    Pure perversion. Pathetic.

This was warhorse training before WW1. American racing can't even brag that, so what's the problem?
