Azores: Lava Rock Saltwater Pool

The Serretinha Bathing Area, unlike the rest of the municipality, is not protected by a bay or any port structure, but on a lava platform, known as Fajã do Fisher, which is around 3,000 years old. Although access to the sea is not the easiest, and the waves are not very strong, it has nevertheless become a popular bathing spot for people from neighbouring parishes, who see some privacy and proximity here.
Work carried out in recent years has improved the conditions of this area, with the construction of sanitary facilities, improved accessibility and the creation of sunbathing areas on levels close to the waterline. A ramp allows people with mobility difficulties to descend to one of the lower platforms. However, this bathing area does not have a lifeguard.
