It's too bad Vanity and Prince imploded before Purple Rain AND Prince fired Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis with Monte Moir leaving with them. To me, Purple Rain would've been even more explosive had Vanity and the Original Time been in the film, not to mention Morris Day would've been in an even better head space because Prince wouldn't have fired his brothers from his Time band.
It's all about timing and purpose. It was time for Jimmy and Terry to move on, and without Vanity leaving for Motown there would not have been an opportunity for Apollonia, a much different version of The Last Dragon, Janet's career going in a different direction, and so many other things would have occured differently. Many times we should never question disruptions, just acceptance of what came out of them?

He had a serious heroine problem and noted they used to binge days on end together. He never mentioned how much of an addict she was when they met, but Vanity did on a few times tried to throw him under the bus by insinuating his habit exasperated hers.
