The issue with Buffalo isn’t the fanbase, it’s their ownership that has did them so wrong over the last 20 years, they don’t help their players so their morale for the game just dies, look at players like Moulson, O’Rielly, Lehner, and now Eichel (granted the situation from last night didn’t help him) like for example the culture their ownership/management gives the rest of the league is don’t play for us or we’ll kill your love for the game, the league NEEDS to step in and remove the Pegulas because they have destroyed what Buffalo had when they last made the cup finals
As a Sabres fan, I feel they are realising their mistakes of the past ten years. Hiring good hockey people to lead a young team. Hopefully they will stay out of the way and stop playing “fantasy” owners. It has worked for the football and lacrosse teams.
5 years ago, the Buffalo Jr Sabres 9-year-old hockey team had a tournament down in Long Island. The team, coaches, and parents decided to watch the Buffalo Sabres play against the New York Islanders. All the kid would talk about was the game and specifically seeing Jack Eichel. They paid money to see players after the game. When Eichel saw the team he shook his head and rolled his eyes and walked away. The kids still talk about it. Kyle Okposo signed every kid's jerseys and stick and talked to them for 20 minutes. The story is from Craig Rivet on After the Whistle.
@@ultimatesportstv1555 The actual proof is posted from Craig Rivet on Twitter. The podcast is just audio. But, the post had two pictures. One picture with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres taking a picture with Kyle Okposo after the game and the other is a DM from maybe a parent or coach about the ordeal. In the message, it said everything about what happened. There is no video proof, just a recollection of the situation.
Tavares faced the same thing when he returned to Long Island, but he handled it like a man. Eichel handled it like the child that he is. He can blame the team and the management (he’ll never accept any of his own blame), but those fans were the ones who spent their hard-earned dollars on his jerseys and tickets to watch crap hockey for those seven years. He’s a sad, little narcissist lashing out at fans who had every reason to boo him.
As an Islanders fan I totally agree I hated him for a year after he left but I’ve moved on he moved on and respect for him is coming back Eichel absolutely could’ve handled that better and didn’t at ALL
@@string7135 he had lots of talent here, he couldn't lead them to the playoffs, that's on him too. He never had the locker room, no one likes him in it and should have never been Captain
@@SabresGuy87 Yep. Don’t forget, he was also basically running the show. He wanted Bylsma gone…fired. He had a say in Krueger getting hired…quite possibly the worst “coach” in NHL history. There were rumors that Skinner wouldn’t even dress in the same room as Jack…not something you want to hear about your captain and face of the franchise. (I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Skinner is having his first good season in years.) Remember all of Jack’s sulking, post-game interviews? Quite frankly, he never exuded maturity, and the team is much better without him.
#facts. Every year, someone complains "players just give the same basic answers to questions", but here's Eichel going full WWE and just getting crushed for it. Make up your mind!
Exactly! I am so tired of this. Eichel said some "mean" things about Buffalo? Who cares? I'd rather some light trash talking than the boring ass cliches we normally get. The guy doesn't have a high opinion of the team and took a shot. Don't get your panties in a twist over it.
Eichel barely gets booed last night and starts chirping a fanbase who loved him. Islanders fans were far more brutal to Tavares but the class act he is, he gave them a salute and moved on with his life.
Islanders fans had it justified because Tavares promised he was gonna stay and didn’t, Jack Eichel got traded by a team that did him wrong by not giving him the surgery he needed, two completely different scenarios
@@toolivid4269 what eichel got last night was the equivalent to what Tavares gets now every time he’s back on Long Island, what Tavares got his 1st night back was miles worse than what eichel got.
This whole thing is about his maturity? This guy sounds like a disappointed father. Jesus Christ man he was emotional after a loss, people love to criticize players for being boring and then when they make comments people question their character. Listening to this guy makes me totally understand why players don’t want to talk to the media after games.
Having witnessed, heard and lived through Eichel's time in Buffalo, he was always like that. Childish, immature, spoiled and coddled. What Jack wanted the organization gave him. He didn't like Dan Byslma as coach ... so Byslma was gone. He wanted more offensive talent and experience around him so the Sabres went and got Taylor Hall and Eric Staal. And on it went. It was never Jack's problem ... all the problems were somebody else's. He never wanted to own anything or take responsibility. He's extremely talented ... yet very immature. He has a lot of growing up to do if he ever really wants to be the face of a franchise. Lucky in Vegas he doesn't have to be that guy right now. They have players that have been doing it for several years. Perhaps they can rub off on Eichel and he can learn from them. Until then he's just a big man-baby.
That wasn't a journalist, Andrew Peters is a former Sabres player who doesn't really have ties to the team anymore and is openly critical when he needs to be. He's just telling it like it is.
@@shawnhill4779 I'm a pens fan, and Bylsma never should've been hired there. He was good for a few years, but stopped being good a decade ago. The offensive talent didn't help much, you could argue it was because coaching or whatever you want, but at the end of the day Eichel was still far and away their only forward driving play well on his own. Fact is, organization was, is, and will keep being the problem, not Eichel. They can't draft well outside the top 10, can't develop players, can't seem to get a stable coach, can't trade well, can't do anything. Eichel may have been able to bandaid that for a few years, but Sabres aren't going to get better any time soon. He was never the problem.
the fans in buffalo did nothing but support the guy when he played here. He got the loudest cheers night in and night out. Don't be so sure of that. Vegas has been slumping bad since Eichel got there. They lost another one tonight. He's not going to change that team, at least not this year anyways. Is there another negative Eichel factor going on already?? lol Stay tuned

Who cares. This guy on the phone is acting pissy for no good reason. It was funny. It was honest. Why do hockey players have to say the same sort of thing in interviews and show no personality. Who cares if it was "unprofessional." Truth is he had a good reason wanting out of there and the fans in Buffalo should be booing their organization and not him. It might stir up a rivalry between Buffalo and Vegas now and that makes hockey more interesting.
Are you seriously asking that? He was to nice! This world is so soft he should have tore into them for what they did they didn't care about Jack's career even though he carried them alone for years so why should he care about them?
I’m sorry somebody else sounds like a spoiled entitled child here. You are literally saying why shouldn’t he expect to be boo’d and I retort WHY DIDN’T YOU EXPECT HIM TO BITE BACK? You don’t get to throw tomatoes and then cry “professionalism.” You boo him, he tells you off, it’s entertainment.
Regardless of what you think about Eichel, a lot of trash talking on the "guest speaker" here. First of all, it's ignorant to not know that Andrew Peters is a former Buffalo Sabre, so he may have more insight than the keyboard experts. You know, since they never played in the NHL.
Especially, this is the case, since The Trade, at least for this game, worked in Buffalo's favor (Krebs And Tuch, Both Scored, And, Jack Eichel didn't).
I guess Jack forgot he was CAPTAIN of the team and was the leader and yet the FANS paid good money to see a REALLY BAD team for a REALLY LONG time. However, he had NO problem collecting that BIG paycheck now, didn't he?
Good for Jack. Team treats him like junk and drives him out, then fans treat him like crap because of it. Damn straight he should have said what he said.
Just watching this again 7 mos later and right after Jack's hattie in Buffalo. Great to the Jack's teammates so happy for him. Gotta luv it after that first game and how the crowd was booing. I get it, but what a way for Jack to put his (my) money where it counts and giving it right back to the crowd!
This sport has way to many plane white pierces of paper doing interviews with the most boring and basic answers. Now we got a guy with emotions and we r mad about it. I love it. It’s how he feels and he wasn’t gonna lie for the sake of sport. That’s his emotions and he let us see them and I admire that because not many players in the League would do that
Part of the NHL Players Association agreement is professional representation. All players are required to act professional while on the ice/off the ice. They are the face of the NHL brand. Do all players adhere to that? Oh heck no. Regardless, there's a time and a place for his comments, and this wasn't the time. Look at Evander Kane or P.K. Subban, Sean Avery and others... there's only so much the NHL Management can take from these players before they get sidelined into another league is all i'm saying. I suspect Kane is the next to go if he does one more major thing wrong.
It’s pretty weird that a fanbase who boo’d him every time he got the puck and cheered when he got hit is going to whine about him punching back after a frustrating loss. Don’t dish it out if you can’t handle the pushback. Fanbase needs to get some skin.
It was untruthful disrespectful and he looked like he was in the verge in tears booing is one thing completely disrespecting an entire city is another and he just proves everyone’s point about him being a immature crybaby
Lol, do you really believe sabres fans are actually upset over his comments? All eichel did was show how rattled he really was. The fans got in his head big time and energised the sabres. @@Cofitube94 Best player doesn't make you a captain by default, that's absolute nonsense and complete misunderstanding of what a captaincy even is. And by all accounts I've listened to, from people close to the Sabres organization, no Jack Eichel was absolutely not the most vocal leader. Not even close.
I think that an imporant point that is missed in this whole narerative was that the gm at the time felt that getting jack eichel as a followup prize for losing the lotto for McDavid that draft, left him feeling "disappointed for the fans". So Eichel was left with a sour taste from the jujmp.
You know the fans and the media got on Tim Murray for having the discouraged look that he didn't win the McDavid lottery, I guess she can't blame him now maybe he knew something the rest of us didn't ? 🙄🤔
Also I'd like to add I have coached youth hockey for 15 years and I always noticed that he seemed to have a lazy work ethic a lot of times and a pissy attitude. Also heard rumors that he had some bad habits off the ice too 😳🙄🤧
Absolutely justified in his opinion. He WAS the Buffalo Sabres and they have the gaul to treat him like that? You didn't make the playoffs once in his career with you of course he's going to want out.
Coming from a Sabres fan, no he wasn't. He's a very talented playmaker, but that's all he is. Very one-dimensional, plus he's a notorious locker room cancer. Told management he wouldn't sign with them after his ELC until a fan favourite coach was fired and he was given the C, plus he vocalized wanting out 2 years ago (before the injury) and practically quit on his team and fanbase afterwards...not exactly something a captain does. I used to love Jack but this whole situation was unnecessarily dramatized/weaponized so he could leave for a contender like he wanted for a while. Hope that gives some context, coming from somebody who's followed his progression since draft day!
@Dave White He was their entire team! How is 1 player supposed to drag a bad roster to the playoffs. Even Crosby and McDavid wouldn't be able to drag those Buffalo teams on his own
@Dave White every player that pays for the Buffalo Sabres is measurably worse for having payed on the team. He'll be better in Vegas than he was in Buffalo. Sure he was "part" of the reason they missed the playoffs but you know he isn't to blame for their lack of success dogshit management is.
Whoever they have on the phone is a clown. Let's not forget this organization, the one that expressed disappointment they didn't get McDavid, and prevented him from getting SURGERY HE NEEDED, is absolutely open to being spoken out against. question, how mature is it not to acknowledge that team owners today are making Harold Ballard look good and we consistently degrade players who take issue with them
I promise you the fans don't take issue with Eichel having a problem with ownership. Buffalo fans hate the Pegulas and hated how they handled things. Jack was booed because he wasn't a leader, was a terrible captain, did nothing to try and make the team better and rally them, and didn't embrace the city. Absolutely horrible take. Man wasn't even respected by the organization enough to let him get his own surgery. Treated like a dog. Then he gets booed after having to put up with this garbage organization that treated him poorly for 7 years. Yah, I'd give an emotional response to the fanbase too if theh treated me like that after getting treated like that for years.
@Dave White Yes, not letting a player get what surgery is best for him is treating him like a dog. They don't care about his health, just as long as they get him out there playing.
This found my feed in June 2023, which is hilarious for all sorts of reasons. More than anything I'm always amused when media guys feel slighted about a player who doesn't give them the usual lip service answers when they ask the dumbest questions possible. Especially so from someone who actually played the game. You actually want your players to give the same garbage response forever and call a guy out publicly like this when they dare to talk back against the angry mob? Jack gave this guy gold in his post-game comments, yet he's upset about it. Jack was *hated* by this crowd. You would have to be completely emotionless and empty inside to not have an experience like this affect you. In fact, I think Jack held back in his comments, because he definitely could have gone in HARD on the fans who reacted as they did that first night back. What about them thanking the guy who played his guts out on trash teams, breaking his body while his own organization remained incredibly unstable and tried to tell him what to do with his own health and body decisions? So glad things worked out the way they did for Jack in Vegas. I wish for nothing but continued failure in Buffalo because that organization earned it and at least some of their more vocal and toxic fans are right behind them.
He says he never heard them cheer that loud in 7 yrs, what does that say about the hockey the crowd was watching in those 7 yrs. He was part of that, WTF
He must have a short memory cause we were loud for his first goal, his first hat trick, his OT winners, the 10 game win streaks, etc. It's always been loud, he tried, and failed horribly, to make fun of Buffalo. Too bad Buffalo gets the last laugh and it's laughing not just at Eichel but Vegas too for taking him off our hands 😂
A small market place is the hardest to get out of. They love you and are so happy you took 5 years, they say "Cause lot of players think they would do better in big cites. Back in the day the owners or managers would make it up and trade the player, so he is not the bad guy.
Make all the jokes you want but I am a die hard Sabres fan. HAHAHA. But Jack has always kind of been a bit of an emotional guy. It's one of his biggest attributes, and also his worst
Exactly why were Buffalo fans so pissy towards Eichel?? It's not Jack's fault that management didn't give him a competitive team to try to win with. And it's certainly not his fault that he wasn't allowed to get the surgery that he wanted and it took so long to get it. Sabres fans really showed themselves last night, and it wasn't good unfortunately.

A long long time ago, a player who was prominent enough to raise the house with Boo's would wear that like a medal, your buddies and team mates would say "Fman did they go nuts for you, yee haw, loved it".
I can understand Jack Eichel being Down. Some Fans Acted Mature And Applauded His Tribute, Which Was Proper, While Others Didn't, Which Was Wrong. I don't expect Buffalo Sabres Fans To Root For Him (that, from what I know, only happened in One Game - Eddie Giacomin Return To Madison Square Garden, As A Detroit Red Wing), and, I Would've Expected Them To Root For Buffalo, but, Solely For The Tribute, Any And All Buffalo Sabres Fans Should've Given Him A Standing Ovation, and, Right After, Then Root For Your The Buffalo Sabres (It's Hockey Protocol From What I've Seen). I respect your opinion, however, I think One Ovation Is Proper Protocol.

Just think, 7 years in that one building, of losing over and over and over again, and you still want to stay, but you need a surgery on your neck, you tell them team management, and they don’t let you do that surgery. So your traded and excited. You go back and the crowd is booing you? Jack wanted to stay, it’s hard leaving a city with those thousands upon thousands of people wearing your last name on their back. It’s hard to leave that. But one second they love you and then you get done dirty by your team, and their now booing you. Couldn’t imagine!
I don't know... A building full of angry ex-fans booing because a millionaire who puts a lump of rubber in between some metal pipes got traded seems pretty immature to me. If they're mad he made a choice for his health that's also pretty damn immature. He would still be there if management let him have the surgery he asked for. Hell, if it hadn't worked he could have still had the surgery the team requested. Lastly, who is responsibility is it to show a 2015 Jack Eichle what it is to be a top shelf NHLer? The veterans and coaches around him. He is Buffalo's creation. His comments are true and deserved. Buffalo has yet another excuse for their mediocrity.
As good as a player as Jack is, in Buffalo he resembled the Billy Mumy character in the famed Twilight Zone Episode "It's a Good Life." In the episode, Mumy plays the part of a young boy with vast mental powers, but lacking emotional development, holds his terrified family in thrall to his every juvenile wish.
Jack was not a good teammate. Wasn't a good leader. And (very probably) has a bad coke habit. Everyone in Buffalo wanted him to get the surgery, little did we know he betrayed us years before
On behalf of all the Sabres fans who defended this guy, through all the losing, his poor attitude, who bought season tickets, who bought his 15 and then #9 jerseys, you Eichel are disgusting. Now we know.
Nope, I applaud him! Booing a guy for leaving so he can have a surgery to better his life and his career? Buffalo should of just let him do the surgery. If they did, he'd still be in a Buffalo uni.
Well this aged well after Eichel smoked them in the next game, Buffalo once again didn't make the playoffs, and once again won't this season. Buffalo is a crap hole when it comes to management and if anyone disagrees with that then explain why they can't seem to win before, during, or after eichel. And yes Eichel had the right to crap on them after Buffalo tried to determine which LIFE ALTERING SURGERY he was allowed to get 😂😂😂

Yeah it happens all the time. Why wouldn’t they boo him and try and get in his head. No one wants to see their old star player light it up in their barn, especially the first game back. I wouldn’t expect anybody to endure that level of a franchise so poorly run and lack of winning desire to stick around. Plus he mentioned that he would’ve given it at least one more run if he was allowed to get his surgery, but they rather wastes the guys life for a mediocre return. If anything these buffalo fans are the ones being immature especially that reporter who’s crying over Eichel standing up for himself.
Buddy, just because one guy over the phone is salty about his comments does not represent the entire buffalo fan base. It was management that mistreated him, not the fans.

Tavares faced the same thing when he returned to Long Island, but he handled it like a man. Eichel handled it like the child that he is. Jesus Christ man he was emotional after a loss, people love to criticize players for being boring and then when they make comments people question their character. Listening to this guy makes me totally understand why players don’t want to talk to the media after games.
Yup

Fact is, organization was, is, and will keep being the problem, not Eichel. They can't draft well outside the top 10, can't develop players, can't seem to get a stable coach, can't trade well, can't do anything. Coming from a Sabres fan, no he wasn't. He's a very talented playmaker, but that's all he is. Very one-dimensional, plus he's a notorious locker room cancer.
He turned out to be quite the narcissist, didn’t he? On a brighter note, we definitely got the better end of that trade!
Nope, I applaud him! Booing a guy for leaving so he can have a surgery to better his life and his career? Buffalo should of just let him do the surgery. If they did, he'd still be in a Buffalo uni.
If he had stayed in Buffalo he still wouldnt be playing.
Well this aged well after Eichel smoked them in the next game, Buffalo once again didn't make the playoffs, and once again won't this season. Buffalo is a crap hole when it comes to management and if anyone disagrees with that then explain why they can't seem to win before, during, or after eichel. And yes Eichel had the right to crap on them after Buffalo tried to determine which LIFE ALTERING SURGERY he was allowed to get 😂😂😂
How could you not expect Side show Bob to not get booed..I don't get it
No
I'm waiting for the next After the Whistle podcast, I think they were on a hiatus for a bit. What a way to get it rolling again though, right?
No they just don't post to TH-cam every day, they are on everyday on Apple podcast
@@SabresGuy87 I just noticed the other day they're on Spotify so I was able to link back up with them. I wonder if they got canceled from TH-cam.
Look at how J T . Was received back in long Island? They hate him booed him and burnt his jersey! Holly cow people get over it . You wanted to blame someone blame management who never got the pecies to put a winning team on the ice ! You should of thanked him for his service's for staying as long as he did !
Buffalo will win a cup before jack Eichel will. Mark my words.
Aged like milk because Vegas won the cup 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Honestly players wish they could get rid of press confrences
He literally was their most best player for years he dominated the league when he stayed healthy. He did everything he could and he gets bood, Buffalo didn’t even allow him to get the surgery he wanted.
Yeah it happens all the time. Why wouldn’t they boo him and try and get in his head. No one wants to see their old star player light it up in their barn, especially the first game back. And the fans didn’t decide he couldn’t get the surgery, so why can’t they boo him? That crowd energised the sabres big time.
@@ViktorKrum-qo9ve it doesn’t happen all the time at all🤣maybe only with Tavares and now eichel, most teams fan bases don’t boo returning players unless, they did something wrong, Tavares led them on and ditched and Jack mean while requested a trade bc he didn’t wanna be apart of re occurring failure. They didn’t boo Ristolainen, Reinhart or Lehner after they all didn’t wanna be in Buffalo
@@bostonwarrior4824 Yes but those guys played their damn hearts out and also didn’t request for trades. I loved those guys and I was sad to see them go tbh. And as for eichel, I was really happy to see him go. He’s a locker room cancer, he got a good coach and GM fired because they didn’t get along. They put a C on him because he’s “Jack eichel” not because he’s a good leader. The fans supported jack through all of this, it was management who mistreated him which lead to the complete disconnect.
@@ripcord8781 was in the top 10 points race when he reached 80 points in back to back szn. Maybe u should look at the stats🤔
@@ViktorKrum-qo9ve those other guys did request a trade, you can see there frustration and their interviews after the szn was done. There agents even said all 3 of them requested a trade. Can you not blame them? For getting led on and stuck in mediocre nhl poverty of a franchise. The team was ignorant and cried about not wanting him to get the surgery. He’s back from recovery and he’s back again playing at a point per game level. Shows how the management was wrong
Guest speaker has an absolute terrible take
He aint a teamplayer. He is like Subban and Tyler Hall. They are talented but would never win a stanley cup. They want all the attention.
This is funny how blown up this all seems. The booing wasn't BC they fans are bitter, its nothing more than a unifying, common point of engagement.
I'd bet most of us hope jack well. But jack was right about 1 thing, a game in that building hasn't been as loud or fun as that game was!!!
But that's really it. I think jack expected praise, and got boos, and overreacted the way a lot of......well, kids would react.
Point is, ppl outside of this fanbase are making more of this than there really is.
Andrew peters knows what he’s talking about 💯💯💯💯
These fans out here booing/degrading him during his return and when he talks back he’s immature? I wouldn’t expect anybody to endure that level of a franchise so poorly run and lack of winning desire to stick around. Plus he mentioned that he would’ve given it at least one more run if he was allowed to get his surgery, but they rather wastes the guys life for a mediocre return. If anything these buffalo fans are the ones being immature especially that reporter who’s crying over Eichel standing up for himself.
Buddy, just because one guy over the phone is salty about his comments does not represent the entire buffalo fan base. It was management that mistreated him, not the fans. The fans didn’t want him to light it up his first game back in buffalo, they got in his head, they energised the sabres, especially tuch and krebs, and set the tone for a big W and a confidence booster. The comments he made post game just showed how rattled he was.
I mean you're talking about it and I don't think any Buffalo fans got physical hurt so no
The Catholic Church went too far
What are you, Louie ck?
@@salzerilli4789 close, other red headed comedian
@@beaudangles147 yea they both talked about it. Louie ck has a whole priest pedophile skit he did
They're hockey players. Don't expect them to be smart people.
Good old Jack should remember he is just not as good as he thinks. All hype.
Sureee
Eichel is talented, but I get the impression his teammates aren't sold on him.
Feel same about Connor
Will beats skill every time. Buff was extremely motivated to beat Jacks far more talented VGK. Ditto when the NYI beat Tavares and the Leafs during his return. All you need is the will to win.
Not a vgk fan but they’re literally missing like 8 players
and not just any players... like Mark Stone, Reilly Smith, Robin Lehner...
Fanning the flames
He’s salty about management still and is pissed
U gotta get ur info straight, its so annoying media still pushing false narrative!! Jack didnt demand trade Because they wouldn’t allow him to get his surgery he demanded trade before the surgery talks that’s why they didn’t give them the risky surgery
Of course they bring the most biased guy onto their show possible😂😂
Most of those fans should be ashamed..
Dude on the left keeps reacting like Pete is out of line yet the commentary is spot on. Eichel needs to just play and shut his mouth. This is pro sports, it’s not “fair”. Get over it and move on. Have some class Jack.
Andrew Peters has the speech mannerisms of a 14 year old girl.
