    Perfect Installation on what seems to be a confusing issue. I too have a 2013 XLT Transit Connect Van and like many I was surprised to find no filter when I bought it used and figured someone took it out and never replaced it. And when I did get a filter it was too big for to fit in the cover. For whatever the reason FORD did not always put a cabin filter element in every Transit Connect Van. But remember - this is a globally distributed Van so somewhere out there a certain market or model gets a filter. FORD and most after-market suppliers make a filter and … and they all are too big to fit in the cover. That’s because the cover was used in non-element models to keep leaves and debris out. As demonstrated here, if you lay the filter on top of the intake for the air system, you will find it’s a perfect fit. In other words - Toss the hard-plastic cover as it was designed for non-element applications.

      I try to squeeze the filter into the hard plastic cover as best I can, and it will stay in it but it is not perfect. Rather than toss the plastic cover, use it to protect the small rat chews the paper filter to get inside the Van.

    so that black grill is not needed any more once the actually filter takes its place ?

    How come you didn't already have a filter in there? Mines the same way. No filter. I bought one but it doesn't even fit, so I'm thinking this particular van doesn't need one.....anyone else notice how the replacement doesn't fit and that there isn't even one in there to replace??????

    so do you put the "filter" that isnt a filter back IN or leave it OUT?
    btw great vid

    The mesh screen at 2:05 is doing the work keeping the leaves and large particles out that could clog the system.
    Ford deemed that enough.
    Although it might not trap small particles of dust etc going through these would naturally enter into the cabin, however I have never had any issues with the cabin being filled with dust etc, I guess it helps the system as a whole being less restricted / having better airflow.
    I was going to buy one but I am now edging towards leaving it stock, now that I know they aren't meant to come with one.

    No wonder why these things leak and ruin the blower motor. Great engineering

    How is that mesh screen between the two halves of the cowl supposed to be held in? I opened this up in m Father's van and the mesh screen assembly surrounded by a rubber seal was just lying flat on the bottom of the inside of the cowl.

      That screen just wedges in near the right side of the filter opening. You can see where at 2:00 minutes into the video after he has installed the filter. The small tab part sticks out on top towards where the cowl cover goes back on. Mine, too was just sitting in there loose after the dealer replaced the filter. You need to play with it a bit to see the proper orientation, then it will stay in place. On the left side of the filter opening there is a solid one that is similar in shape. Not sure what its function is, but it goes in the same way.

    Great video. I couldn’t find mine. Apparently the previous owner took it out and never put one back in.

    Did you put that plastic piece back on top of the filter ?

  • @Jimbojam
    @Jimbojam 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    that upper part with two big star drive bits should come off first, then it will be way easier to take this in and out

      also, I took a WIX 24808 filter from Amazon for $6 and cut one inch off the long side and a little off the short end and it fit right in perfectly down low and the plastic grill goes back in and keeps it all snug.

    Does this filter have the potential to get wet unlike an interior mounted cabin filter?

      only if the seals from the filter case has a hole in it had that problem on 5 transits of a fleet of 8. Common 2012-13 informal recall

      I read on another forum that there is actually a filter compartment INSIDE, accessible from the passenger side. Mounted in the center of the dash, so towards the left side of the passenger's feet. Can you verify? This Transit is based on the Focus so the components should be the same.
      I don't have one of these van's, but my Father bought one in early 2013 so I am curious.

      I was not able to find one on the inside but then again I didn't pull down one of the many restrictions that are in the way. It definitely doesn't look like the kick panel beneath the glove box matches that of the Ford Focus. But then again I don't know. The owner's manual just says to go to the dealer for replacement of the cabin filter, it doesn't say if it has one for certain or not.

    how there wasn't any filter when you removed the cover??
    I was looking everywhere and seems like doesn't need any filter there.

    I wish you showed how you put that top grill cover and the front plate with the screws back on. It looks like it could be tricky.

    • @luperamos7307
      @luperamos7307 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very tricky. You need to take that other additional panel off and the filter may not even fit that screen.

      I dropped an acorn down in there when I changed it once.
      Damn think went right down in the blower fan.
      I had to pull the fan housing down and pull it out
