    As a firefighter who has shown up to people shot in their homes, yards and cars... Who has seen people murdered with axes in their doorways or knifed in their garages, I can say that you never know when it is time. I can tell you that if I was in my kitchen and someone kicked in my door, I would not be able to make it to my bedroom before they intercepted me. The place for a defensive handgun is on your person or on your night stand by your bed. I bring my handgun into my bathroom when I shower. If I go into a building where I cannot carry like an airport terminal or a government building I lock it in my car in a place not obvious and put it right back on when I return. Gun free zones like stores that do not allow guns I completely disregard as it is not backed by laws. All that they can do is trespass you if you are caught carrying (which if you conceal correctly they never will). I am my brothers and sisters keepers and will always be on guard for others as I am myself.

      I have my handgun on my hip at all times in my home and when I even walk outside even tho' I live in a 'safe area.' Seeing too many videos on how swift home invasions occur I think that it is deadly futile not to have a gun on you.

      Yes.. find a gun small enough and a holster comfortable enough that you pretty much forget it's there. A gun in your glove box does absolutely nothing for you when the shooting starts in the store or gas station. A gun on your nightstand does nothing for you when you are in your garage.

      I remember how much useful info.i got from one of the early books.it was more of a overview of all factors of gun ownership and use.most of the drils and multiple practice habits I picked up from the book.wher actually what the instructors in my three advanced firearms training taught.(I'm not a expert.but do what I can to have better than the basics that many do)
      I was ahead of the curve in the classes.due to actually having settled on my gun and holster and carry position long before classes.plus I listen to Mass from his TH-cam videos and had my draw and fire practice time in.
      Read his books and others.take advantage of TH-cam. practice what you can and when.
      But take a class if you can.I was ahead of the curve in my classes.But doing the same drills I did on my own.with people and a watchfully instructor around.was a eye opener.

Not the prime self defense sidearm, but it is there, always. I keep a spare 15 round mag handy, but would rather get to my stashed 12 ga. I carry my Glock 42 unless I’m in the shower or if I’m fulfilling my marital duty. That is the only two exceptions I’m not armed. I have a 3 speed holster which allows me to deep conceal it for 40 hours a week and then pull it up into the appendix position every chance I can. The 42 is light and I can put 8 rounds in a fist sized group with either hand if I have to. Something like the 42 is what I believe most people need for program compliance and to shoot quickly and accurately with either or both hands.

    I actually do have one in every room. But all of them are housed in a speed safe that I lock when I leave and open when I return. All get locked at night with the exception of the one next to my bed to avoid an invader finding it and using it against me. I have one that is not locked but well out of the reach of any child in my kitchen. I wish they made a small version of the speed safe for smaller weapons, it's a LCP II .380. Maybe I'll find one for it.

    Someone violently kicks my door in and within seconds they are having to deal with my two large breed dogs ( German Shepherd and Boxer). In my bedroom, which is the furthest room from the front door has my 12 gauge at the ready. When I get home I typically change into lounging clothes. My EDC CCW goes with my street clothes and my S&W J-Frame comes with me around the house. Between the dogs and the model 36 I’m pretty confident I can deal with most home invasions. & if not they will give me the needed cover to get back to the shotgun.

    Home carry has a third advantage; you're ready to go out.
    If you need to run to the store for a jug of milk, or you remember it's time to pick up your kids, or your friend calls and needs a quick favor, it can be very tempting to think, "It's just a short, routine trip. I don't really need to go to the trouble of opening the lock box and putting my gun on for a simple trip like this, only to have to put it away when I get back."
    Unfortunately, trouble doesn't RSVP. I'd rather be armed, even just walking out to the mailbox.

      As we get older and our eyes let us down, we have to increase the odds in our favor. I recommend low noise/low recoil birdshot in a 12ga shotgun. At in-home distances, it will be devastating. And, at 10 feet it spreads about as much as the size of a gallon of milk or antifreeze jug so you don't have to be super accurate. I also recommend having just 2 rounds of this in the shotgun, followed by #4 buckshot in a 2 3/4 size shell - no magnums! By the time you use the first 2 low power rounds, you will be ready for the big stuff and IF you need it, it's there. Best of luck.

    I'm a firm believer of being able to fight before getting a gun. Boxing, wrestling, judo, or karate. Master the basics and get proficient at striking, blocking, parrying, and stepping. You can learn ways to hurt people for self-defense. There are classes you can take offered to women and weak gentlemen who have been bullied. You don't have to get good enough to compete against others in mixed martial arts but keep your training a secret and have that to surprise your attacker while getting good at pointing your gun center mass if they are not wearing a body armor. Then get good with your firearm. Real good. Put in the time at an isolated place where your bullets will not travel past the dirt mound or mounds or wall that will stop your bullet, and not cause your bullet to ricochet. Then, get some safety training about how to look past your target so you don't shoot more than the person you HAVE TO SHOOT. Never want to shoot someone. If you want to shoot someone, stay away from that person. Be aware of your surroundings and ready to respond. Don't attend rallies that have the potential to get violent. If you sense danger, then leave before it occurs. That whole stand your ground thing is only if you are caught off guard. If you know something is going to go down, it is your duty to get away from there and call the police. Let them handle it because you are not being paid to put your life on the line not to mention the lives of the people you are with, like your wife or children or brothers or sisters. I hope you never have to use the gun. STAY SAFE is my last offering to anyone reading this.

    2:56 I shit you not, and the pun is fully intended, I kept a firearm in the bathroom for that very reason. I was lucky enough to never be the victim of a home invasion, but I lived in an apartment complex where the neighbor to each side of me and the one directly on top of me had their apartments broken in to while they were home. Over reaction? Maybe. But I could do my business from that point on with one less worry on my mind.

    I keep a gun next to my toilet. The most important place, in my opinion. If I’m in the shower or on the shitter, it will take me the longest time to get to a weapon if I didn’t have one in the bathroom.
    Think about it. You have to get out of the shower soaking, which would be a big slipping hazard. If you are shitting, then you have to stand up and pull up your pants. Then you are exiting the room into an unknown situation.
    Bottom line, if you only have 1 gun, carry it around your home. If you have many, and don’t want to carry 24/7, keep one in the most vulnerable areas. The bathroom, and your bedside.

    • @Kop_in_the_Sky
      @Kop_in_the_Sky 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you concerned about the humidity?

    • @Aspen910
      @Aspen910 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kop_in_the_Sky I was at first. Having been at sea before, I was used to see rust build up on weapons overnight. But I had a rifle leaning up against the wall between the toilet and shower for over a year and it didn’t rust at all, even when it was soaked with hot shower steam. I didn’t clean that weapon the whole year to see what would happen. I would check the chamber once a week just to make sure it wasn’t rusting. It was a Colt AR-15. Where I live now, I no longer have my own bathroom so I don’t have the Colt sitting in the same spot, instead I have a handgun in a drawer that’s easily reachable from sitting on the throne. If you’re sitting down or laying down in my home, there’s a gun or two within reach. I have a tiny 1 bedroom apartment now, so it’s sort of important. In a home where your couch is a room away from the front door you’d probably have some time to react if some thug booted in your door. For me, my couch is 5 feet from the door, so as soon as I could stand up they could push me back down. That’s why I think it’s important to have weapons in vulnerable areas, especially in apartments where you aren’t allowed to install security doors or upgrade your locks.

    It's not that women can't do it, it's that most women don't want to. Men and women are different, psychologically. That's scientifically proven (as much as such a thing can be proven) and after 50+ years of social pressure to say men and women are the same inside (any differences are just "socially constructed") most of the differences remain, in spite of all of that pressure to be the same. Most women *do* want her man to be her "protector-provider" just like the old days. And most men want to be that protector-provider. Even very wealthy and successful women in the career world tend to choose men who earn more than they do, and who exude masculinity. They "marry up" as the saying goes. And women tend to choose careers where they work with people, while men tend to choose careers where they work with things. Men tend to choose more dangerous careers, women tend towards indoor jobs. All of that fits with "my husband carries the gun." He's the protector-provider, and the handler of a dangerous mechanical device. Because that's the way she *wants* it. Not all women of course, but most women.
