I live locally and I believe a lot of locals are boycotting the park due to the way the directors of the company treated their staff. They were all let go 2 days before pay day when the company went in to administration and left penniless. The new company is owned by the same family. All very dodgy. Such a shame as the country park is beautiful.
Hi Shawn, was really disappointed with the state of m&d's as it is now. It used to have so much energy and packed out throughout the summer seasons. Would like to see the place turn around again but not holding out much hope. The state that tornado is now in was hard to watch. I used to be the operator of tornado back in the day when it still had the corkscrew element. Rough as hell and very painful but the queues were always long to ride. Lots of fond memories and happy times working there
I love your enthusiasm! Such a sad looking place. I visited their Christmas event years ago and contracted Norovirus - haven't been back since. As a Scot I am embarrassed by this place. Marymass in Irvine has more atmosphere.
3 hour policy, late opening, no major rides, cold, been through a serious accident, more funfair than theme park and no all-in price. I am amazed that there are still some people coming to this park.
The park just needs to close and be flattened, its a tip and it clearly hasn't been forgotten how the park shafted their staff a few months ago. Wouldnt set foot in the place despite living a few miles away. Only way to save it would be for someone like Merlin to buy it but that's never going to happen. Its a waste though because where it is situated it is so easy to get to from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Done correctly they could have a huge customer base but its been hated for years and the rollercoaster crash in 2016 probably was the final nail in the coffin given so many viewed it is poor maintenance by the park.
Two places that will get your adremilin pumping in Scotland are fox lake and sky zone Fox lake is a obstacle corse over water or more of a pond you don't have a harness so if you fall you will take a plunge there are four routes all ending in a zip line into the water but make sure to let go before you hit the water . Sky zone has three attractions including skypark, the drop & a climbing wall skypark is a obstacle corse suspended 60ft above the floors of Braehead you are strapped in with only a harness and you start by going across a five meter gap with nothing but the harness holding you in once your on there is no getting of as by that time the split section is closed and there is people behind you. The big drop drops you 60ft with only a harness even though it's at a snails pace. The climbing wall is just an average climbing wall though. (Love to see Charlotte on the fox lake zip line into water
A lot of people still think it is shut, and I feel terrible how they treated the staff. I was hoping this place would close permanently and open up an opportunity for something better....
I think the tornado will most likely be scrapped as it needs a major refurbishment it’s now a one of a kind model with there only being 2 of these rc70’s built and the second one being scrapped I can’t see this one lasting much longer, it’s probably impossible to get the parts for this model now as pinfari no longer exist
This park used to be amazing but I think things went downhill after the incident on the Tsunami. I can't even call it a theme park as it's more of an amusement park. The big apple coaster has gone now, Tornado has been removed and the park just has a big empty plot of land. I've heard there getting more traveling rides at the park and I hope they get some unique stuff as they're charging quite a lot for the park.
Even though this is my home park, I actually don't like it that much. I think it could have been a lot more than a few cookie-cutter rides on a slab of concrete. If i had the money, I would buy this park, rip out everything (except the condor) and start again. I would make it all one themed area and have maybe a small scale Gerst Infinity where everything ties into each other. I know the size piece of land is almost unworkable, but it doesn't have to be a big park. This could have been Paulton's or PHL, but instead it's a few crap rides on a slab of concrete. I suppose I can't be too harsh though, they don't have a huge amount of income partly because of the 2016 crash but also because they chose a country that most people go to for the views and built an amusement park in it.
Best idea would be to move some of the rides around Strathclyde park and let it expand. Could really tie in the water sports and the recreational walking that's there (and the Roman Baths could be part of a walking tour just a shame the bridge is unsafe to cross) but that's NLC for you!
M&D's really need some big park group to own it by the looks of it. Maybe if Merlin or the group that brought Drayton Manor brought it and upgraded it to a real Scottish theme park with theming and everything it could perhaps do well. It has the customer base if its the only major one in Scotland.
Scotland has the strictest Covid-19 rules on music which explains the lack of music in most of the attractions you've visited on your trip. Raised voices/singing can project droplets containing Covid-19 further than just talking at a normal level, so they are discouraging anything which could encourage people to sing (or dance).
Lol a Reputation...that's being polite Shawn. Its an embarrassment and safety hazard. Any self respecting Scottish person will take a trip to Blackpool before going there. Re-brand is an excellent idea, flatten and build an indoor place. the current family don't seem to care, the ownership situation just seemed like a way off load their debt. It really needs major investment. Its got a good location though with easy access between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Well as I commented on your original vlog during covid I knew that the family would enter administration to negate having to pay furlough. And looks like they sold the iconic big wheel to keep going. I hope the Animals in Amazonia are all ok . Another good vlog I just don’t think that M&D’s will survive as they have not even advertised that they are open so this will be why it’s empty.
Allan Daniels M&Ds events used the wheel and flying carpet. M&Ds events are now GEA Events, so the most successful part of M&Ds separated from the park and took the rides with them.
@@SueRiotGraphics No, they haven't took the big wheel and carpet. GEA has their own two big wheels and the magic carpet has been sold to somewhere else in Europe.
I was just at the park as I live nearby and it is a mess now most of the ride are now gone and tornado has been dismantled to now travel around France and all the bins and night charts have been removed and all the kids rides are gone hopefully this is due to a huge refurb the park does really need a change but will always be on of my fav theme parks as I Kno alot of the people there and is a very friendly park but needs more new rides hopefully some more permanent rides too!
One thing that was great about M&Ds when it was at it's peak is that it was great for the Galadays. The small mining towns in Scotland, the Lothian districts, usually have a small anual Holliday in June starting with a parade. This is then Followed by a session on the show rides at the local park where the travelers set them up. After that, us locals round the day off by getting drunk and by burning food in the BBQ. However, a lot of the smaller villages don't have room, permissions or funding to allow for the travellers to set so they had to go without the show rides, a shame for the little ones. So M&Ds was a great solution for these families from the smaller communities to end off their Galaday with some decent show rides 👌😁
that building that is getting built is an office at the top and a gift shop down the bottom. i worked during the 2019 season but my family know the family that run the park.
Sad to see what’s happened to my “home park”(even though I still live quite a while away) it used to be a great whole day of fun, now it just looks a mess. I’ve not been for a long time now but it’s really not looking great😔
First thing they need to do its ditch the words "premiere" and "theme park" from there branding... Here's an idea for them, they got a couple of pirate themed rides so maybe they could expand that, could even re-brand the flume to fit in
for another local fact, I believe quite a few of the travelling rides brought in are owned by the Codonas family (that you visited yesterday) in fact the freak out ride was parked in the grass next to Codonas for the past couple of seasons. The Codonas family do own quite a few travelling fair type things
Makes me feel bad how bad this park has been operating. Been to here few years ago and it still looks like it has only deteriorated more. Really sad for the staffs that lost their jobs before too😢😢.
The sad thing is I don't think this place will ever improve unless they are bought out by someone else or they get a right kick up the arse to make the place better. That said in the last video I was impressed by Codona's of how smart the place looked if though it was needing to expand. Yeah, I'm not a fan of M&D's even if it's my 'local' park. :(
Just thought I would give you a bit of an update shawn, went today 19th of September 2:30 - 5:30 pm slot and the atmosphere was buzzing, very busy by covid standards, queues for every ride, complete contrast to your video, must have been the good weather and the fact it was a saturday. Maybe the future for this park isnt so bleak, I defenitely agree the park should undergo a re brand, it is certainly lacking more permanent installs. But I was impressed with today's visit even though the ride selections dropped in terms of large rides in comparison of maybe 5 years ago, they seem to be making more of an effort in some areas.
This is in my hometown it used to be a great park when I was younger they now have a few more travelling rides there’s like a booster ect it’s looking much better the tornado is now sold and getting dismantled in 2021😊
since you mentioned the music being low, that’s one of Nicola’s coronavirus restrictions. Parks and bars/restaurants etc aren’t allowed to play music over a certain limit, as more people shouting to be heard over music means more germs being spread from the mouth. I don’t know if it’s totally necessary but just letting you know that’s in place and it’s not the parks fault
Thanks for this I always wanted to know what the inside looked like I been by it a few times with my dad been a lorry truck driver and last time I went by they had a bungee ball and bomber mark 2 sad to see there not there now :(
I support you for going to all the non Merlin parks around the uk and Europe but not this park. They knew what they were doing when they went into administration with over 160 Staff not getting paid 2 days before with no furlough payments neither. Then a month later the kids buy it for a £1. So that’s why the park is empty.
They should sell Tornado for scrap, put the spinning coaster in a box to expand the pirate theme over there. Move some of the rides around/out (I'd take out the log flume, put mine train there and tuck the Wacky Worm behind the Condor), it would be nice if they got one of the traveling Schwarzkopf's for a summer. I'm not saying something huge Olypmia Looping or Teststrecke (formerly Laser at Dorney Park), thay wouldn't fit with how I moved the rides in my head.
mren I stay like 10 mins from there it is trash they transport all the rides across Scotland for street fairs etc they recently went bust surprised anyone wanted to buy it
That place looks absolutely awful... I hope the investment comes in sharpish.. makes you wonder about health and safety etc too as some of those rides look way past their sell by date
Should have waited till next week they’ve got a scare maze and open four of the main rides £20 wristband and that includes the haunt wich is normally pretty well themed
I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade but something nobody realises these rides barely ever past their safety tests my dads an engineering surveyor and him and his colleagues have literally stood their and failed them. More specifically their big coaster with the loop (can’t remember the name )
Hope you enjoyed your visit Shawn, at least your vlogs have shown it doesn't rain here 'all' the time contrary to what some people think! Yeah as I touched on in another of your vlogs, it's a real shame we don't have a decent park up here, both in terms of size and rides. Covid times aside, I'm sure it 'could' work as Scotland's a popular tourist destination. Ah well, we can dream! Sadly, M&D's has been a bit of a laughing stock for years and, unless it receives some serious investment, I don't see that changing.
Danters should buy Tornado for Barry Island...would look great there on the sea front! It's mad because Barry Island has the visitors but no permanent rides.
Yeah, it's not a great theme park, which is a shame because Strathclyde park itself is lovely. And what people are saying about the staff being let go 2 days before payday is true. It was honestly nasty for the management to do it. Then I think it was less than a week after they went into administration the park was under new management even though it was the same family. 1 of my friends had a season ticket cause she lives close to it. She ended up losing the ticket and it wasn't cheap either.
Really is in a bad state of affairs, we stay 45mins away in Ayrshire and wouldn't go again after going about 5years ago. Says it all when we have a season pass for Blackpool pleasure beach over 200miles away £80 last year and will get them again for next year at only £48 each. Even at the £85 that there on sale for right now is outstanding value even taking into account our fuel money, hotels, food and drink etc lol even more so again for next year as going abroad will still be iffy with covid
I bet that's the same Hornes where Palace Playland in Maine got their Adrenalin frisbee ride from. I never knew what the "Hornes" sign on the ride meant. I really hope this park can rebound, but it doesn't look to be in the best state.
Wicksteed park doing magical Christmas looking like to be sold out, which is good news, looking to open more rides October half term, the 3 rides open currently doing quite well looking good for future covid permitting!
I'm sorry to say, but I really think all Pinfari looping coasters should just close. I can't think of a single one that isn't dreadful. I would happily ride Infusion 100 times over Tornado or Turbo etc.
For a park thats fairly remote i doubt pay per ride will work as it only works best at a travelling fair or seaside where there are many other things to do. Id rather them charge a bit more for a wristband if they need more money in which they do. Also prebook to pay per ride makes no sense either.
The park is so grim.....Loudoun Castle was by far the best theme park Scotland has ever seen....M&D's is more like a premier in with a funfair out the back!!!!!!!
I stay in Glasgow and I've never been, it's not regarded as good place to go, they don't look after it. Many people think it's a death trap. it's sad, Scotland deserves a good park
Asides from the indoor things seeming decent enough for what they are, this place honestly just looks... *bad.* Which is a tremendous shame really, given that it's got a pretty ideal location (both in terms of the travel links and the surrounding area) and it's the only major(ish) park for Scotland ever since Loudon Castle went under. I mean, if it were up to me and I had the sufficient budget to do so, the first things I'd do (besides, of course, much improving working conditions for the staff) would likely include: > Selling off most of the travelling funfair-tier rides there for extra funds, overhauling/theming the ones I would consider worthy of keeping (in particular the Captain's Curse, Condor, etc.; mostly the semi-permanent and/or rare things), and replacing them with a good selection of fewer, but better-quality park model flat rides. Quality over quantity, etc. > Of those, an important one (restrictions permitting) would have to be a tall view-based gentle ride that takes advantage of the beautiful views across the country park. Something like a giant wheel or an observation tower; maybe go for Scotland's tallest on either account to attain maximum draw! > To use Tornado's spot, a compact but thrilling (and on a reasonable budget) coaster would work excellently. Something like an overhauled Vekoma Boomerang (with the new trains with the non-headbanging restraints, ala Flying Cobras at Carowinds) or even a Premier Rides Sky Rocket II (ala Busch Gardens Tampa's Tigris) could work! > I would keep the Mine Train Coaster, but I'd give it a complete overhaul; fix it up (especially the brake system, and perhaps some new trains), move it closer to the indoor section, and have it reworked as a nicely-themed indoor coaster with special effects (as you mentioned) that's accessible from the aforementioned indoor bit. > A good new family coaster is a must. Something like a Gravity Group family wooden coaster (ala Wooden Warrior at Quassy, Oscar's Wacky Taxi at Sesame Place, or Kentucky Flyer at Kentucky Kingdom) I believe would be ideal; given that it's thrilling but fun for all the family, and it'd have the unique accolade of being one of (if not _the)_ only woodies in Scotland. > Give the park more defined and higher-quality (but still affordable) theming throughout, including indoors. What's already there for around the American Diner (etc.) could be a good basis! > Perhaps add a new expansion/attraction for the big indoor section of the park to compliment the overhauled Mine Train Coaster. Something like electric go-karts, themed dodgems (ala Codona's), a second mini-golf course or a small ice skating rink could work? > Set aside a good deal of space nearby for future expansion once the new levels of profit and popularity allow it. Mostly just the tip of the iceberg at this point, but the general focus would be starting off relatively small, reasonably-priced, but with good theming and unique attractions (like how a lot of major parks start out), enough to make a good profit each time and keep guests coming back, and then slowly expanding outward from there (perhaps even getting to the point where you can invest in major things like a hotel and/or an indoor water park) to _truly_ be Scotland's top theme park! Thoughts or suggestions?
@@ThemeParkWorldwide One other idea I had for Tornado's spot was perhaps a custom Gerstlauer Eurofighter (a bit like Rage at Adventure Island, or Hydrus at Seaside Heights), so you've got a superb thrilling coaster in a small footprint... and considerably less head trauma!
It’s not really a theme park. More like a permanent fun fair. It’s fun for little kiddies. Central Scotland is a great location for a proper theme park like Alton, Chessington, Thorpe etc but it would need major investment. With Covid, I think this park won’t last through until next summer.
I love M&Ds I went for my 12th bday and it was the best I would love to go again I do love the limbo dancers/ fast and furious that is my fav from a travelling fair but I love the pirate ship I’d happily go on that everyday and I’d never get board and when you get the rust bands i think it is a great value for someone who lover rides because I would spend 6/7 hours just ok rides and that would only be £20 and when you think that you pay £2.50 at travelling fairs for 1 ride
I live about an hour and a half from here, I used to visit a lot, and last visited about 4 years ago in the height of summer and it was not as busy as it could've been, it badly needed upgrading and a whole load of WD40 then as everything creaked. Used to the mine train though, it's heartbreaking to see it all go to ruin. It needs a financial boost to upgrade everything and attract customers back (once it's safe to do so).
My family and I were there two years ago,was busy and had lots of rides ,the magic carpet was good ,shame to see it in such a state . Would like to see Codonas Aberdeen get a freak out permanently.
I think the reason the aren’t allowed to play loud music is because when it’s loud u have to shout so u would be spitting kinda ?? But I’ve been to m&ds hundreds of times in the past few weeks on FREAK OUT and everything and they have been playing music

How?
I've always loved how M&D's has that late 80s early 90s atmosphere to the place, like from the movie The Lost Boys or something! 😁
Hi Shawn, was really disappointed with the state of m&d's as it is now. It used to have so much energy and packed out throughout the summer seasons.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Thanks for the information!
Cant believe you came to the park that’s 10 minutes from me, im sorry you had to endure all that😅
Thanks for this I always wanted to know what the inside looked like I been by it a few times with my dad been a lorry truck driver and last time I went by they had a bungee ball and bomber mark 2 sad to see there not there now :(
I support you for going to all the non Merlin parks around the uk and Europe but not this park. They knew what they were doing when they went into administration with over 160
Staff not getting paid 2 days before with no furlough payments neither. Then a month later the kids buy it for a £1. So that’s why the park is empty.
It’s awful what happened here in regards to the staff. Let’s hope they can move forwards with fresh investment and treat their staff better!
Another great Vlog as always Shawn mate 👍🏻
They should sell Tornado for scrap, put the spinning coaster in a box to expand the pirate theme over there. Move some of the rides around/out (I'd take out the log flume, put mine train there and tuck the Wacky Worm behind the Condor), it would be nice if they got one of the traveling Schwarzkopf's for a summer. I'm not saying something huge Olypmia Looping or Teststrecke (formerly Laser at Dorney Park), thay wouldn't fit with how I moved the rides in my head.
Why is this named a Theme Park? This looks like a funfair!
Its trash
It’s basically is a funfair with one rollercoaster that nearly snaps your neck
It really looks like Trash!
mren I stay like 10 mins from there it is trash they transport all the rides across Scotland for street fairs etc they recently went bust surprised anyone wanted to buy it
@@420kyle5 I would buy it if they gave me 20000 for it
That place looks absolutely awful... I hope the investment comes in sharpish.. makes you wonder about health and safety etc too as some of those rides look way past their sell by date
Let’s hope there’s some fresh investment soon
How good is it to hear Motherwell mentioned on TH-cam lol I'm 5-10 minutes from there that's why I came to meet u two years ago
Them old q line fences used to be for the old Tsunami coaster
Should have waited till next week they’ve got a scare maze and open four of the main rides £20 wristband and that includes the haunt wich is normally pretty well themed
Thanks for the information
I don’t mean to rain on anyone’s parade but something nobody realises these rides barely ever past their safety tests my dads an engineering surveyor and him and his colleagues have literally stood their and failed them. More specifically their big coaster with the loop (can’t remember the name )
It’s Tornado. Let’s hope safety measures are checked on a regular basis
Shawn, can you please do an updated video of your top 50 or so roller coasters?
Hope you enjoyed your visit Shawn, at least your vlogs have shown it doesn't rain here 'all' the time contrary to what some people think! Yeah as I touched on in another of your vlogs, it's a real shame we don't have a decent park up here, both in terms of size and rides. Covid times aside, I'm sure it 'could' work as Scotland's a popular tourist destination. Ah well, we can dream! Sadly, M&D's has been a bit of a laughing stock for years and, unless it receives some serious investment, I don't see that changing.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
I bet that's the same Hornes where Palace Playland in Maine got their Adrenalin frisbee ride from. I never knew what the "Hornes" sign on the ride meant.
I really hope this park can rebound, but it doesn't look to be in the best state.
Hi Shawn amazing blog will you consider looking into meet and greets I would love to come and meet you and Charlotte
We have no events planned at the moment but if you ever see us at the parks then feel free to say hello!
That pirate ship looks like the one that used to be at Metroland in Gateshead. Is there a website similar to rcdb but for flat rides?
Sadly not, but it does look similar!
Wicksteed park doing magical Christmas looking like to be sold out, which is good news, looking to open more rides October half term, the 3 rides open currently doing quite well looking good for future covid permitting!
That’s good to hear!
Kind of disappointing that tornado isn't removed, like you said it will leave a bad taste in peoples mouth if their main attraction isn't running
Let’s hope it can be sold and removed soon
Are you going to Alton Towers for Oktoberest?
We’re unsure if we’ll be covering the events at theme parks this year
Real shame seeing this park the way it is compared to its golden years, hope they revive it and Codonas...
I always remember mad mouse being at Bridlington when I was little!
Not surprised that tornado is not running not been there gor maybr ariund 20 years and even then the tide wad rough as anything
This year they opened four new rides I believe going next week but it looks okay not as good as loudon castle when I remember that place
It’s basically Drayton manor, 3 rides and then a lot of family rides
I was there in 2017 and it looked in bad condition then.
Found out that The Tornado Rollercoaster is now called Gotham and is now located in France at
Parc d'Attractions Marseillan-Plage.
I'm super disappointed they took away the big ferris wheel.
I went back earlier this week and the park was busy! just the time you went I suppose
Hi Shawn, love your videos. Did you ever visit Loudoun Castle Theme Park in Scotland before it closed?
I did indeed. It was great!
I'm sorry to say, but I really think all Pinfari looping coasters should just close. I can't think of a single one that isn't dreadful. I would happily ride Infusion 100 times over Tornado or Turbo etc.
Thanks Shawn just watching now
For a park thats fairly remote i doubt pay per ride will work as it only works best at a travelling fair or seaside where there are many other things to do. Id rather them charge a bit more for a wristband if they need more money in which they do. Also prebook to pay per ride makes no sense either.
Definitely
Another great vlog Shawn keep it up
Yes It’s still here
The park is so grim.....Loudoun Castle was by far the best theme park Scotland has ever seen....M&D's is more like a premier in with a funfair out the back!!!!!!!
I’m going there tiday with my friend and my fancy icon rollercoaster t shirt I’m so excited
I stay in Glasgow and I've never been, it's not regarded as good place to go, they don't look after it. Many people think it's a death trap. it's sad, Scotland deserves a good park
Tornado has now been dismantled and away somewhere abroad Shawn
Thanks for the information
I think the best thing for them is to invest in new rollercoasters make it more like Alton towers or Blackpool
With what money though?
thanks for the advice dude
I think they need a Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster to replace Tornado, and a Vekoma Suspended Thrill coaster.
I asked Shawn two years ago and thats what he thought
noooo not the flying carpet, this park literally sucks now...😤 i went there 3 years ago nice vlog
I mean, if it were up to me and I had the sufficient budget to do so, the first things I'd do (besides, of course, much improving working conditions for the staff) would likely include:
> Selling off most of the travelling funfair-tier rides there for extra funds, overhauling/theming the ones I would consider worthy of keeping (in particular the Captain's Curse, Condor, etc.; mostly the semi-permanent and/or rare things), and replacing them with a good selection of fewer, but better-quality park model flat rides.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
@@ThemeParkWorldwide Appreciated! Might have gone a bit long-winded on it, but there's definitely a lot of potential there.
Great that the park has been saved
No it's not the quicker it closes the better the place is a fckin dump
Amazing vlog as always
My family and I were there two years ago,was busy and had lots of rides ,the magic carpet was good ,shame to see it in such a state . Would like to see Codonas Aberdeen get a freak out permanently.
Thanks so much thank you
I think the reason the aren’t allowed to play loud music is because when it’s loud u have to shout so u would be spitting kinda ?? But I’ve been to m&ds hundreds of times in the past few weeks on FREAK OUT and everything and they have been playing music
