    Great video. Don't worry about the lead the copper shelter stack that pushes out sulphur fumes is a bit annoying. I was born in the Isa left many years ago still think it's home. To enjoy yourself in the Isa is to get to know some of the long time local's and they will tell you the sights and how to get there Maltese Cross, water holes that are not on any map east Leichhardt dam to name some. With a 4 wheel drive some knowledge of the area you would need weeks to see the sights

    Welcome to my home town. A great place to live. All the smoke you filmed was coming out of the copper smelter, which gives off sulphur fumes. The lead smelter is the really tall one to the right, which is built really high to keep the lead fumes away. We very rarely get troubled by sulphur fumes, once a year maybe. And never troubled by lead fumes. Lovely filming of our area. Enjoy your journey.

    I can't help but shake my head at the last words of Johan in this video. I must agree however that RACQ are the best. They have got me out of a few pickles in the past.

    I lived in Mount Isa for 50 odd years and now that I've left I miss the place, smoke from the lead smelter stack may contain lead although it is filtered pretty well, copper smelter stack is visible and not filtered so much as there is no lead in it, great place if you like the great outdoors.

    One thing about life is stuff is going to happen and you’d better be prepared for it. It’s a big stumbling block what you are going through. I think roadside assistance is paramount because if you breakdown the cost will be huge.

    This whole adventure is very interesting. My wife and I are about to buy a caravan to first travel WA and the a lap of Australia. We are retired with limited funds so this video besides the nice photography is very informative. We are looking at the Iridium 13S from signature caravans. The frame, draw bar and suspension seem to be very similar to what you have on Aardvark. So a little worried. Please keep up the good work as your videos are very informative and interesting with fantastic photography. I am also interested in birding and mixing video with stills. Kudos to you both.

      Hi Harry! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment - it is always lovely to "meet" like minded folk on You Tube! We are not familiar with the Iridium, but there are a large number of companies importing campers in part (or in whole) from China. To be honest, we really like the design of these hybrids (love the outside kitchen and having a shower etc in such a small van) but at this point in time we are thinking of replacing the suspension with an aussie - made version. In the comments people have mentioned cruise master and lovells - we have not researched it yet. The other good tip that was mentioned was to use dye penetrant inspection of the suspension and whichever suspension we end up with that will probably be part of our maintenance routine in future - particularly after sections of corrugated gravel road.

      @@shirleyjaynephotography8722I agree it is the design and layout in a smaller van that attracted us plus of course the price. Are you going to replace just the suspension with Aussie made or are you thinking of replacing the Van. I hope Mars campers comes through for you with the repairs. We rented a Trak Tvan last outing in it performed fantastically on corrugations but they are expensive and are little more than a tent trailer. We also like the idea of an onsuite especially for me due to my age. What camera do you use for stills. I have an Canon 80D with assorted lenses. Looking for a drone for our trip as well.

    • @shirleyjaynephotography8722
      @shirleyjaynephotography8722  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can't say yet about replacing suspension or van, it will depend on what Mars says. We have a Canon 5d mk3 and a 90d (both lovely cameras although the 5d is getting on a little) and an assortment of lenses. Drone is a DJI mini 2 - it's great.

      Suggest you consider checking where the proposed van is manufactured before purchase. Australian brands like Coromal, Golf, Kedron have good reputations, particularly the earlier models, that were totally manufactured in Australia, not with Chinese components.

    • @harrybergeest6790
      @harrybergeest6790 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wyattfamily8997 I agree that would be the way to go as I would like to support Australian products and labour but being a pensioner there is a monetary reason as it is either a Van with some Chinese parts built here or no Van at all. We just can't afford the extra $15 to $20 grand. Without a Van we stay home and with a Van we support the Australian tourist industry especially in the outback. Sorry but that is the reality

    So Guys, we're interested to know how you got on with your vans repairs and replacement parts. Also, did you end up sourcing the exact same suspension that failed you? or did you get another better quality suspension system installed. Love your videos and photo's. Keep those terrific episodes coming.

      Van repair process is proving to be verrrrry slow, and has been exacerbated by the lockdown. Decisions about replacing suspension with eg cruise master or Lovells are still to be made. Thanks for the encouragement - I will keep posting videos and updates!

      @@shirleyjaynephotography8722 I don't think upgrading the broken suspension parts will fix your problem. As an engineer I can tell from your photographs that it was metal fatigue that caused the failure. Putting stronger arms is only going to transfer the stress to the next weakest link. The pick up points to the chassis. Strengthen the pick up points and the chassis will crack. Unfortunately metal fatigue in Chinese metal is to common. Best of luck in your travels.

      Hi Jeanine! We will have to keep you posted on that... we had substantial out of pocket expenses (accomodation, labour, towing etc as it was difficult to negotiate with the manufacturer through a local repairer at such a distance. We are currently still working with the manufacturer to, hoepfully, arrive at an equitable solution.
