That boat you were riding is called "gozzo" and it's an absolute classic all along the Tyrrenian coast of Italy for its safety in rough seas. The area may look like heaven in summer but it can turn into a sh*t of a force 10 hell in fall and winter and all those nice little harbors got in serious trouble many times, yachts included.
