  • One survivor of the Bataan Death March - 97-year-old Col. Ben Skardon - walks across the desert to honor his fallen friends who did not make it back home.
In 1942, the Japanese Army overtook the Philippines and forced 75,000 captured American and Filipino soldiers on a grueling 80-mile trek that became known as the Bataan Death March. Decades later, a marathon is held every year at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico in memory of the event.
