    These Tahiti dance troupes are really evolving into being incredible. Well choreographed, and very entertaining to watch. Those musicians hit beats that stir something very tribal in all of us.

    This show was performed for Miss Tahiti 2018, giving time to the miss to change theirs costumes. The troup of Tamariki Poerani won Heiva Contest in 2017 in professional category. When they perform, as all the Ori Tahiti Troups, it's always traditional movements. The first dance is called Tapa's Dance : Girls supposed to finish it topless but you'll never see it again (it was live on tv). The second and third dance are a Otea . The boys finished with a Haka. The biggest event of Ori Tahiti (tahitian dance contest) is performed in july during the Heiva. You'll see hundred of dancers and musicians sharing their culture. They must follow traditional rules illustrating the theme of their show. You must know the Ori Tahiti and his language to understand what they perform. Tourists will appreciate only the show. We practice in parkings lot with no one around cause of the "noise" of the drums ! It takes time and money and professionals can't live with it. We do it because we love it ! Mauruuru.

      It’s a shame Miss France owns the Miss Tahiti pageant. The winner represents Tahiti as a region in Miss France and if they want to compete independently then they have to send the contestants with no financial help. International pageants aren’t cheap to compete in.

    And Millenials think “Twerking” is something special. These ladies have talent and their people have been doing this for generations.

      This is why one may never understand one culture comparing to others, or just watching and putting another culture on top of another, But colonialism education do that so can't blame. We Austronesian Race/ Polynesians are not twerking, that is The Black Africans from The African Continent culture/ dance this is Shaking completely different, even the way to do this we use and train the knees to shake the hips. Same like The Arabs dance. Twerking is dancing with your butt and it's asexual show off dance , the dance is all about having sex. You may travel to Eastern Africa to see and watch it for yourself. Our dance is all about The waves, The winds, The Birds and nature all its course sometimes it's smooth and peaceful sometimes it's rough, and we are taking the wrath of The sea, winds, and nature. It's all about the celebration of nature and We love birds

      I would compare this to belly dancing. This is nothing like twerking. BTW "twerking" comes from AFRICAN tribal dancing that are THOUSAND OF YEARS OLD and yes...it's something to be proud of. It is something special

    • @lostchild06
      @lostchild06 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      You can celebrate one dance without putting down another. You know that, right? "Twerking" is thousands of years old and it is not necessarily sexual (and even if it sometimes is, who cares? Many dances can be sexual/sensual in nature like tango)

    The native Tahitians who intermarried with the French colonists (& other Europeans & Asians later) produced the lighter skin of their progenies seen in some of the dancers.
    I wonder if there are still pure blooded Tahitians remaining. Hmm😳l
    Luckily they kept their native (folk) dances alive.
    What graceful gorgeous ladies,

      There were pure blooded Tahitians with fair skin long before Europeans arrived. An old custom was to be sheltred from the sun for months. First explorers stated that the skin of some Tahitians was as light as Europeans skin.

    So funny to read some comments judging these people dancing their own traditional cultural dances? Haha. Come on, they know their culture than you do. Like who are you to tell them they can’t dance like this or like that, or this is not traditional. Like cheez, these people are Tahitians from Tahiti. Then some comments mentioned that these dancers are not even native. Haha. HELLO, they are native..anyways nothing wrong being mixed as well. SMFH

      @@shonaphillips7577 they might be mixed but it’s doesn’t make them less Tahitians. They were born and raised in Tahiti. They know their own culture and their own identity. And plus, they seemed happy performing their cultural dances.

    • @mea5138
      @mea5138 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shonaphillips7577 This is a pure form of traditional dance practiced before the arrival of Europeans. It was for the tapa cloth offering. The real traditional costume was much bigger and more sophisticate. During this ritual a young girl undressed until she was naked. But it is impossible to do that nowadays. So don't judge others culture.

      It's a Vahine's Otea ! There's no name. Generally we have : Otea Tane (men), Vahine (women) and Amui (all). When we perform an Otea, we have to play several type of traditional drumming. We also have Aparima (Tane, vahine & amui) with singers, ukulele & guitars & singers. At the end, it's a Haka, traditional dance from Marquiseas (and Tuamotu sometimes). Hope that's help you.

    ¡ Que pasó ! todas las tahitians se han tornado blancas y pelirrojas. Yo ví las autenticas en 1974; hasta la forma del cuerpo era diferente.

    What is the purpose of having to remove the long robe, does it carry any meaning?

    • @agostinagurgone5581
      @agostinagurgone5581 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, yes, that long robe is called Tapa, is sacred. It is said that in ancient times, chiefs from diferent districts will give very long and beautiful tapa to the king, and a virgin girl would wear it and take it of, while dancing in front of the king. They are meant to be topless, but this was aired.

      @@agostinagurgone5581 Yes Ori Tapa. The chief would have sed with the chosen dancer. Few does this anymore as it’s badly payed.
