Fixing Spraddle/Splayed Leg in Peachicks

This is a method we use on our farm to fix splayed leg or spraddle leg in newborn peachicks. It is very important to raise peachicks on non-slippery surfaces as this can lead to splayed leg. If left untreated it can lead to walking issues later in life. Some peacocks come out of the egg like this while others develop it from sliding on surfaces at a young age. We use a straw with a rubber band. We leave this on for 48 hours making sure no circulation is cut off from the legs but that the rubber band is tight enough to keep the legs in a normal position. We do not guarantee success but this method has worked for us.

Tiny zip ties and string work well too!
Put a zip tie on each leg - above the back toe and loose enough to slide up but not over the hock joint. Tie each end of string to the zip ties.

How old was the Chick when you did this? Do you do it as soon as you know there is an issue or do you wait until it's a certain age?

Typically as soon as you notice it.

Any solutions for a peachick born with a gimp foot? Little sweetheart walkin' around like a pirate on a peg leg. I believe my egg turner in the incubator is broke and my eggs weren't turned as I thought and this is the cause for a chick having wry neck and this foot problem.
