      You left us hanging, bro!!! Just kidding! Hope everything is good, man! These videos are some of the most succinct, but deep (enough) videos on speaker design that I've come across. # videos summarized what I learned from dozens of videos from others. Did you end up building these? I'm actually in the process of designing and building a very similar design, but for home theater surrounds and heights. I'm using the Designer Series instead for the woofer and mid, and the reference dome you showed instead of the planar for now, but could switch to all reference. And I'm actually trialing out different crossover points and slopes with the 4 channel DSP KABD board, so I inadvertently built the active studio monitor you designed here with no previous knowledge of your build.

    Hey Kirby, really enjoying this series! As to your Fusion360 question, a Canvas is intended to be used when a designer has a sketch or image that they are importing into the scene to use as a design reference for modelling. Canvases come in semi transparent (so they don't obscure scene geometry) and so have the red outline to make them easier to distinguish in the scene. What you should use in your situation is Insert > Decal, which is meant to be applied to a model face for rendering/realism (and comes in at full opacity).

    Having spent a lot of time and money on studio monitors myself it makes me appreciate the factors that go into a high end pair even more. Thanks a lot for making a series like this. It is very interesting! I recommend taking a look to Neumann KH310 monitors for a little more inspiration on what a very flat mixing and mastering monitor is laid out like. AMT tweeters and a traditional cone midrange may not give you the fidelity you're hoping for (especially when it comes to the issue of lobing/stereo imaging). Consider swapping the cone midrange driver for a dome midrange (Dayton makes their own for very cheap). You may want to also consider an aluminum or woven alloy tweeter for enhanced accuracy. AMT/ribbon tweeters in my experience are not as nice to work on as a traditional dome tweeter (inverted or otherwise). Focal Trio6 monitors are known to have excellent sound in the air band thanks to their inverted beryllium dome tweeter. Keep up the excellent work, Kirby.

    • @KirbyMeetsAudio

    • @henrikandersen4777
      @henrikandersen4777 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats a matter of taste, matter of fact is there alot more amt/ribbon tweeters in pro studios then not. you can take that comment as you want, the amt air tweeter from eve audio/adam audio are among the best you can buy those for around 66$ each direct from the eve audio/adam audio companies. those tweeter will alsow alow you toget high end tweeters and be able to work longer whit no ear fattige, and even making a skeaper this caliber whit dayton units, wont go every well as thats budget hifi units

I hadnt fully understood lobing(and probably still don't) but it is a concept crucial to project im working on! Keep it coming!

    For the producer question, definitely Warren Huart from Produce Like a Pro, he's one of the few producers I can think that's still in the industry at that level that does educational content. That said he's made lots of reviews of studio monitors and equipment and could give you his point of view of how they sound in a profesional recording/mixing environment. Great series, keep it up!

      @@TheBlackCat1997able I've searched a bit. I found a lot angry customers on Facebook in the comment section. They ordered its offered items such as loudspeakers and this items were not shipped after the payment. I guess this is the reason why it's so quiet here and at the other social media accounts from Kirby. It seems all become too much for him. Therefore I think he's fine, but he quits his activities in speaker building and sale. I think he couldn't meet the high demands of his customers, maybe due to miscalculation.

    Genuinely happy i found your channel... not only are the videos relaxing and enjoyable to watch... I get proper info dumps like this video...
    I do maker stuff too, and I'm doing a speaker project pretty soon and i've been looking for information like this on best practices for speaker setup. So many other "DIY speaker" videos take no consideration at all for the internal and external shape of a speaker. Or just use the same sub tube channel as they do for any other speaker but they dont go into why they design that channel or the reason for the width of diameter of a tube....
    While I dont need to go into the super super HIFI end of my design, I do want to find the best practices to avoid clashing frequencies and resonance to get as clean as I reasonably can get on my speaker design... So finding your informative vids is great.

    Great video!
    Correct me if I'm wrong but, doesn't a mtm give you great dispersion at the tweeter level only? In other words if you were to stand up you may not be able to hear as much sparkle of the tweeter as you would if you were sitting at tweeter level ?

    • @NakeanWickliff
      @NakeanWickliff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to say this too. MTM has horrible vertical dispersion and it's why it should be banned as a center channel configuration unless you intent is bone all but the main listening positions frequency response.

    I'd love to see a video about 'options'... like, what you need to power the speakers, what you need if you want an internal powered soundbar, how to setup speakers if you want the TV to control the volume, etc.... lots of great speaker videos and standalone amp vids... but be kinda cool to see what's needed for different situations. I'd like to build a 2.1 soundbar/sub but I don't want external amps sitting around or to have to control the volume at the amp.

    To fix the problems with baffle step and diffraction, you could as well put some foam around the tweeter. Old B&W (like de DM6 speakers) or Rogers speakers use this technique. Another solution as well is to put the tweeter in its own small enclosure and put in on top of the larger enclosure, for instance something like B&W 800 series.
