  • Edit see skf info below (spacer not needed)
    Hi guys!
    As promised, made a video on the install of the RallyRaid open cartridge kit.
    It’s loooong, and still doesn’t cover every detail (removal & install of forks). For seal and bushing removal/install, check my fork service video here: Fork oil seal replacement - Yamaha Tenere 700 - • Fork oil seal replacem...
    It’s not a tricky install, but I will say the cartridge removal tool is nice to have when removing the piston.
    Make sure that if you replace the oem seals with the SKF ones, do not use the spacer.
    EDIT - you do not have to use the spacer, but you will have a tighter snug fit with the retaining clip doing so, just make sure it goes in the the groove completely ) -
    MOST IMPORTANT !!
    RTFM, follow RallyRaid’s installation guide found here:
    www.rally-raid...
    Make sure you bleed the system thoroughly when filling up with oil.
    450ml/leg, air gap 120mm
    Take it slow, make sure you have all the tools prior ripping the forks apart.
    - 43mm Fork seal driver
    - impact driver (nice to have)
    - measuring cup
    - air gap tool (will make it less messy)
    - 14mm hex bit for removing rebound valve
    - cartridge tool (I needed it)
    - patients:)
    That’s it folks, please ask questions if you have any.
    And sorry for my crappy video editing skills, lost some video so couldn’t redo after I saw my errors.
    Next video will be the test ride
    Marcus
    Ps. Think I used the do not use the spacer a few to many times lol.

    Just finished my first test ride of my T7 after fitting the fork kit and am very impressed with the improvement indeed. Combined with a heavier rear spring the bike is now fit for purpose, with enough leeway for a load on a multi-day long haul.

      Great 😊
      Just a click of adjustment makes a difference too, witch isn’t nice when you play around.
      I have 3 in on comp and 2 on rebound. Might go 4/3 next time I ride, as I sometimes feel like I’m bottoming out in woops.

      Thanks John, thanks for the support regarding the seal spacer question.
      I so want to redo the complete video from scratch, and in a better way. But now it’s all on the bike 🙈.
      Amazing product!!
      I have had the legs on and off a few times now, double checked oil level (had to do a top up on comp leg) but now it is all 120mm air gap.
      So many small things I could have explained in a better way and showed in an other manner, but no one want a 1 h long video.
      Now I just want the rear shock, like ASAP 🤣

    Such a needed video - I have the 230mm closed cartridge kit from Rally Raid as well the Adventure shock with same travel - have yet to install those due to uncertainty on tools and modality... Much thanks!

      I thought long about the selection.
      I would really have liked the 230mm travel, but was unsure of the closed vs open.
      Will probably get the extreme rear one, so not the preload adjuster thing.

    Did you happen to pick up fork bleeders for your new cartridge kit? I noticed that the bleed screws are smaller than the stock bleed screws, so my old bleeders won’t fit. I’d measure the screws myself, but I’m away for work, and want to order new bleeders for when I get back.

    Nice video, to be utterly clear..only use spacer with OEM seal, not with SKF seal?
    What did you think of the end result? Worth the money? Or is a heavier oil and weight matched spring nearly as good for easy enduro?
    Thanks for making vid.

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spacer only to be used if the OEM seal is higher than the SKF one, so the spacer makes the skf seal to the same size, so the oil seal doesn’t have wiggle room between the metal spacer and the the oil seal retaining clip.
      For the T7, no plastic SKF spacer is needed 😜
      The difference is very noticeable, not as jiddery when riding harder on tar (corners).
      And feels more stable on uneven surface at low and high speed.
      However, do not expect a plush 48mm fork enduro feel.
      I haven’t tested that much yet, need to go out to my fav playground tomorrow if time allows.
      The standard comp/rebound settings was to hard at first feel, and they are already only 4/6 clicks in, so I’m running 2/4 now with 6NM spring and good sag.
      But will play around more, as I haven’t tested it in rougher terrain.
      I’d say it’s way better that oem, I just wish I had the rear shock too 😂. Worth the money, hmm. Maybe.
      Ktec revalve, spring and oil might be enough. But I usually tend to cough up more $ for a bigger improvement.
      If it had more cash, I’d probably gone for the 230mm closed kit and shock 😬, just because.
      But then again, most of my riding is tar and gravel and some bits off road when I can.

    Does the kit come with the spanner?

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pin type spanner to remove the cap and preload adjustment spanner.
      The only tool I bought extra was the oem cartridge removal tool (the long blue tube looking tool)

  • @Toonces311
    @Toonces311 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since you have had this kit for a while. What are your clicker settings for the Rebound and Compression?

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now it’s all run in, and I have had to adjust the settings a bit.
      Comp in 4 clicks in, Rebound 3.
      For sure the best way is to run in rough stuff, if you feel any bottom out tendencies, one more click in.
      However, if I know I will ride in small ruts etc, then I’ll soften it a click or two (comp).

    hi, after several months of use what feedback can you make on this fork kit?
    Did you change the rear shock absorber? OHLINS offers several interesting models. I have been thinking for two years of use now has changed put an Ohlins kit at the front which is similar to your kit and changed the entire shock absorber at the rear (changing only the spring is not enough. The problem comes from the rebound speed of the general flexibility which is not good (this is of course due to rational choices of Yamaha not to increase the price of the bike). The addition is starting to increase ... but it is normal considering the off road tulization a little engaged. Thank you for porting your videos.
    goodbye

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The difference after changing the front is huge, much more stable at high speed on uneven ground/off road. No more hard bottoming out, just in general so much better.
      Rear shock will be replaced before next season, changing out the front and rear is 100% the best upgrade for the T7, no doubt.
      Öhlins is probably good as well, as long as the cartridge is wider than the stock it’s a improvement. 20mm vs 35mm on RallyRaid open kit.
      I can’t wait to get the rear replaced, I agree with you about rebound there, and the bouncing around.

  • @erez1984
    @erez1984 ปีที่แล้ว

    So how do you like them after a year of riding?
    Are the plusher than oem or something similar? Asking because most of the reviews says they are quite stiff so would like to know whats your opinion about them regarding plushness on and off road.

    • @everythingtenere
      @everythingtenere  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like them a lot !!
      But I wouldn’t mind the +30 closed cartridge, would be nice to try in the gnarly I usually ride on.
      Biggest complains people have, that get these and have an incorrect expectation.
      Is that they think it will transform the suspension to enduro levels, plush and be floating over small bumps etc.
      These doesn’t do that, they improve the handeling, less dive and more control. Doesn’t bottom out straight away, and adjusting clickers actually makes a difference.
