The jays aren’t being used for leverage as what’s been suspected by other players. Every team is on the same level financially. Makes one think Sasaki is genuinely interested in Toronto. Especially when the two New York teams have been told they’re out.
Difference is they are all large markets, but only Toronto who has owners that won’t do what it takes to produce a winner. Rogers won’t spend at the top of the league every year to commit to winning. 5 top 10 payrolls in 25 years is proof. Never once top 6
Right, because winning championships isn't high on his list of priorities lol. Choose to be delusional but in the real world he signs with the Dodgers because there's a chance he's in the playoffs in all 6 years of his contract with no real pressure to be the ace or he goes to the Padres to play with his idol Darvish. Both options he plays in the California sun. If he wanted to play indoors he would have stayed in Japan.
Or prop up and then share spotlight with Darvish in SD. Tor is wide open to him and the Jays control 95% of the media that covers the team. Ask Vlad how often a star needs to be available and can still make advertising impact. Because we're in it still, makes me think he favors us over at least one of the others.
In all seriousness, what can the Blue Jays offer Sasaki in terms of what he (through his agent) says he wants? 1) The best pitching development in baseball and 2) to be the greatest pitcher in baseball? The Blue Jays currently have the most incompetent front office executive pairing in Shapiro/Atkins, they can't seem to attract any top level free-agent talent, they offer huge contracts to free-agents that have no desire to play in Toronto but are cheap on offers to their own stars (eg. Vladdy), they can't even extend/resign their own players, the only free-agents they can seem to get are the ones that other teams reject (eg. Hoffman who failed medicals for the Orioles and the Braves), and have a completely eviscerated farm system. So... why would Sasaki choose the Blue Jays?
As a Jays fan, my dog has a better chance of being named Prime Minister. The Dodgers sign everybody, and fans are very lucky that their ownership actually care about winning.
The Dodgers have an awesome full rotation without Sasaki. Would he rather come to the Jays and be a valued starter or would he go to the Dodgers to be a 6th man, a standby in the minors waiting for a shot? I am hoping we would choose to be a starter.
Roki is only 23, and his number were trending the wrong way last year. He would be much more interested in developing and getting better than trying to stand out. Let's face it, as a pitcher, even if you had a god like year (ie Robbie Ray), it doesn't do much if you can't keep it up. Basically unlike other free agents who is 30+, Roki has plenty of time left to make a name for himself and get a ring, pitching development is far more important and more rewarding in the long run and he is definitely smart enough to know that.
Before the wildfire, i would say the Jays had no chance, now with 1/3rd of the state on fire, who knows...But if the Dodgers sign him, then trade everyone because MLB just turned stupid and the Jays are never going to be relevant until they fix the game.
Too much overanalyisis Nick. Lets just watch and see WHO the Kid signs with. It will be in a week or less. Dodgers have something like a 7 man starting pitching staff already. Little Roki not like to have a normal season as a starter with LA. If I was Dave Roberts I'd use Roki as a 8th or 9th inning guy in 25. So it should be between SD and Toronto. What u should be doing is finding out WHAT IT IS that he likes about Toronto? We ALREADY know that he is in love with the Japanese pitcher on SD, and the two in LA! Tell us something that we don't already know Nick! Why does he like Toronto more than the other 27 MLB teams??? I don't buy, wow man it is that great facility they have in Dunedin!
The Dodgers would offer less pressure. Jays media is not small, with la he is far down the list of stars so he can fly under the radar more while still getting the sponsorship deals along side Ohtani and Yamamoto as a 3some for Japan. It's a unique position of getting the sponsorship attention without being the focal point.
Its cruel if he knows he's going to LA but has us strung along. Lol Makes me think he prefers us better than one of the others. Part if me thinks he wants Toronto because of the opportunity - the virgin landscape for Japanese stars - but he may not have the stones to stray too far from the obvious comfort of Cali. It's established and he won't be alone. We have a large Japanese population, but no other athletes or similar..
Tired of the one guy carrying this podcast, another guy, Peter, not committed to this podcast. Its not fair that one guy does all the work, and Peter benefits for doing little to nothing!!!
Would you rather play with your grandfather who will most likely retire in the next 2-4 years or play with your best friends and new legends of the game and actually win championships????
Everyone is just guessing nobody knows besides Sasaki , everyone can have their opinions, but they all have an even chance there are no favourites because you don't know what he's actually looking for
We don't deserve him because we can't prounce his name right. It's Sa-sa-ki. Not Sa-SAH-ki. It also IS a money issue. Commercial marketing in Canada regarding Japanese companies would be far bigger than in Cali. Also Pete Walker & our splitter-heavy rotation definitely gives us an advantage.
Gotta have hope. I’m an Astros fan. Love The Jays, truly hope it can happen. Maybe he’d rather be in Canada. He’d rather be a big fish in a little pond instead of LA, being a little fish in a big pond with all of The Stars and fires. Good luck! If The Astros don’t get Santander, not likely, hopefully The BJays.
Sasaki going to the Dodgers is exactly what he wants. Ohtani is the star and would take most of the attention of the crazy Japanese media away from him. Add Yamamoto to the mix and he is not the focus. He only pitches every 5th game so he's in the spotlight once a week. Atkins believing this roster can compete in the AL east is as delusional as his belief free agents would sign his offers. He has no plan for this team and it's showing. Atkins could only sign Hoffman because 2 teams pulled back their offers. Atkins is desperate trying to prove to ownership he deserves a new contract.
Why would he choose jays, he will waste his 6 years in Toronto. Mines of well join dodgers, develop his skills and win multiple championship/build his legacy. Once he reaches free agency, chase the big dollars, lead his own team when he matures..
IF, Sas doesn't want the attention of mass media, SD is the spot. Media for the Dodgers is world wide. Media for the Jays are frustrated Maple Leafs fans, who act like jealous school girls when someone new enters the scene that is not hockey...and whom (for the most part) HAVE TO cover the Jays like it or not. Even if he is doing good, they want better, then they want more. Toronto media wants to pull down all other T.O sports teams to the lozer Leafs level, so they don't have admit they are lozers for watching one of the most lozingest team in North American professional sports which happens to be their favorite sport. Imagine loving one sport so much, you hate other sports, then the team yo love so much in that sport, does nothing but lose? You put all your eggs in one basket, and the basket always is empty - as a sports fan, how can people be so restrictive? Sas would be in a smaller market who appreciates him in SD.

There is another contract he’ll be considering. Not officially, but…
The salary that the teams can offer is equal, but the money Roki can make via sponsorship and advertising in Canada puts them over the top.
True, because 35 million people don't exist in SoCal, or even the Western half of the US. Also, the CAD is toilet paper at this point.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡

The baseball gods love toying with the Bluejays fans….
He’s gonna be a Dodger
Jays ONLY hope is that he doesn't want to be overshadowed by Yamamoto and Ohtani, and chooses the Jays.
Or prop up and then share spotlight with Darvish in SD.

Toronto is the 3rd largest city in MLB, with national media attention daily.
@@MandoGuerrero2 that broke his visit days late
@@eshep71 Because Rogers controls it. They wanted it that way. Roki had his 3 teams set a week ago but nobody listed those teams til Monday.
@MandoGuerrero2 either way, it's confusing and exciting to a degree.
He’s going to be a blue jay

To me, if I wanted to stand out in the rotation, would you go to the dodgers where you are maybe and or 3rd best. Or the Jays where you could be #1
Roki is only 23, and his number were trending the wrong way last year. He would be much more interested in developing and getting better than trying to stand out. Let's face it, as a pitcher, even if you had a god like year (ie Robbie Ray), it doesn't do much if you can't keep it up.

He would also get to take October off. Bonus.
I'm just grateful that we're part of the process. 😵💫😵💫😵💫

We offer both

He going to San Diego
I’m just happy to be nominated
Don’t think they’re anything but leverage as per, but if it was legit that Mets story dropping today isn’t exactly ideal timing.
Tired of the one guy carrying this podcast, another guy, Peter, not committed to this podcast. Its not fair that one guy does all the work, and Peter benefits for doing little to nothing!!!
I’ve been saying it for awhile .. Nick should run this by himself. Peter’s doesn’t bring much to this channel
@Tango21C Peter does another podcast for Mets I think 3 up and 3 down don't think he is even a Jay's fan like we are
@ yup and that channel is even worst. He’s just bland and not entertaining to listen to
apparently he calls yu darvish his godfather. Heard it on mlb radio this morning. Padres is where he most likely going
Would you rather play with your grandfather who will most likely retire in the next 2-4 years or play with your best friends and new legends of the game and actually win championships????
Canada would be a untapped market for Sasaki, if he's looking to raise his value toronto would be the perfect fit.

A video about the newest Dodger. Why show up for the games?
If he doesn’t sign with the Dodgers… I hope it’s the Jays. Just not the Padres. I’m obviously a Dodgers fan.
If he signs with the LAD he's not serious about being a SP
Hope they have a good back up plan, not like last year
Going to the Padres
I don't think Sasaki will end up with Toronto
Everyone is just guessing nobody knows besides Sasaki , everyone can have their opinions, but they all have an even chance there are no favourites because you don't know what he's actually looking for
I don't think he picks the Dodgers as he is very anti-media and LA is a swarm of it. I think it will be either the Jays or Padres.
That's my thoughts too.
We DID get Gaussmam, Berrios and Springer. So we have signed good players in the past 5 years
Thats what I'm thinking too and he would be overshadowed as well by Ohtani and Yamamoto and he doesn't want that.
And you know this because he told you so? 🤣
No he's told reporters this before he started meeting teams and in the media.

Just surprise us FOR ONCE ATKINS FFS!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
No way Jays get him. Friends on Padres and Dodgers. Jays don’t even have a Japanese player. Not happening
