Have they released the details of the second contract the Orioles offered Hoffman? The revised deal they offered after the physical.
Hopefully the Blue Jays have signed enough bullpen arms that it pushes Pop off of the 26-man roster and bumps him back to Buffalo.

Pop is staying. Brett De Geus was DFAed to make room for Hoffman

@@AbsoluteDan I assumed Pop would stay on the 40-man. My hope is that he stays off the 26-man active roster when opening day rolls around and gets sent to Buffalo. Pop has one option year remaining.

Pop doesn't have any options according to fan graphs

Sure good signing Hoffman is great they are still 3-4 players away from being competitive in the AL East cause every other team is getting better besides the rays but no one knows what goes on over there

And the Jays still will have a hard time with the Rays

I'm going to say yes on exceeding the tax if they can get the right deals down to 1-3 years. (Bellinger model)
I still think their payroll is unlimited for this year if they can keep the commitments contained. (Term is limited)
If they can sign Bregman for 31 and Santander for 25 and Throw Flaherty in there for 22 all in one year deals - there's probably Zero worry about payroll. (I don't expect all or two, but I do expect one of them)
The lux tax only really kills when it's multiple years exceeding at high thresholds.
One year - the final year of Vlad and Bo, is well worth that last (short term) blow out I think.
Being pushed around at the top of the market was no fun, but it's nice that they can potentially walk out of the secondary market with everything we need.
This crop of FAs don't check your shoes (for signs of class) before they sign lol

Good start but if you look at their bullpen they have no lefties. That's why the addition of Minter or Scott would greatly improve the bullpen.

I think we need more lefty pitchers. If we sign Santander, we should go after Quintana as our 5th SP and Yarborough for one more RP. Manoah won’t be back until August and even if he does come back who knows what that’ll look like. Rodriguez did show glimpses of being good but also left more to be desired. Adding those 2 lefties would give us depth and save us from going to guys like Pop & Lucas

Pop will be on the team since he is out of options, but I definitely agree with the left handed pitching aspect. There’s Brendan little and Josh Walker… that’s it. The Jays have been linked to a ton of starting pitchers and Yarborough was great for the jays last season, hopefully there is another pitching move to come

With managements jobs in the balance there is little room for error at this point. Big red flags with this one.

I am not really impressed with this deal. Opportunity or luck seems to play a role in this. If the Orioles flagging doesn't happen, then this deal doesn't either. But looking at the closer spot from the start of each year, is Hoffman and Romano that much different? I get that they are other factors to consider in the future success but how would you feel if Romano did return on a one year deal? To me this is filling a hole that the management made themselves. Not great but it needed to be done. I am lukewarm about this deal with none of it to do with Hoffman's talent. If you think of what it means to overpay, I believe the FO considers this an "overpay" based on the medical report but to the fanbase I can't really envision people seeing it the same way.
Most of our ML pitching is settled. This is what we want in mid January
    Keep up the good work

Not only do we have half of what we needed...prices may come down significantly on the rest.
There's no way we should be signing any of the remaining guys for 5+ years, so that short term news is very welcomed on guys like Santander, Flaherty and potentially Bregman.
I've always had faith in the FO (not to go half way tho), so the last 2 months have been somewhat defensive for me. Lol
It's refreshing that the mood is starting to lift..and considering that we're going to have to do it all by 'dumpster diving', it's that much more impressive.
We'll deal with a bad team in the summer. Right now it all runs on hope lol

Jays Fanbase have become spoiled brats you’re right about that but. The team still needs power bats in DH and OF, a second catcher, a SP and another high leveraged RP to be a contender. It’s possible it could all come together. Good work boys

How so? They wasted the last core of young talent. Free agents do not want to play north of the border. The entire division is loaded. The Jays are screwed.
RIP: Blue Jays - they died a long time ago. JAYS are the team now.

@LockedOnBlueJays not sure I agree but since they had the worst bullpen in the majors last season that's not saying much
