Cool comparison. I downloaded the scene and gave it a try. 1. I don`t know why your Vray lost so much detail and looks washed out and dull. 2. There is no reason to use Vray and not use bucket sampling. That is like buying a Mustang to drive offroad. 3. Disable texture filtering in vraybirtmap to get sharper textures. 4. Use a higher color threshold like 0.05 with a mild denoiser to cut render times while preserving find details. Anyhow, love your channel, keep up the good work!
Hi Tom, and THanks for your comment. As you can see the only thing that I have changed was the color threshold from 0.005 to 0.01 because it was taking to much time to render otherwise and the hdri outside. You also need to take in consideration the resolution of the image 1920 X1080. The higher the resolution the better the denoiser si working. I think an farit comparision it will be with Vray on Brute Force with Brute Force. Anyway of I will ever need to make an animation I will definetly use V-ray. THank again for the feedback. Cheers.
Good for making a comparison video, but I have to disagree with the conclusion here. It should be clear to you that understanding how to use V-Ray properly is crucial for an accurate comparison. While I was initially interested in switching to Corona, this review seems to lack the fundamental knowledge of V-Ray's capabilities and workflow. It's important to consider a fair evaluation that takes into account both renderers' strengths and weaknesses. Looking forward to a more informed comparison in the future!
@@3d-corner I just wanted to point out that in V-Ray, the denoiser is actually turned off by default, so the comparison is not entirely representative of the default rendering settings. It's also worth mentioning that in your video, one of the main complaints was the lack of detail, which seemed to be based on your choice to enable the denoiser. What's interesting is that you chose the Intel Denoiser, which is developed by Intel (as the name suggests), and not the denoiser developed by Chaos Group specifically for V-Ray. These choices can significantly impact the comparison's fairness. Additionally, I'd like to highlight that you only compared CPU rendering, assuming that Corona does not support GPU rendering. However, V-Ray GPU rendering can provide results 3-4 times faster than CPU rendering, even with an entry-level NVIDIA GPU (like the RTX 3060), based on my own tests. So, there are a few factors to consider when evaluating the performance of these renderers. Overall, it would be great to see a more balanced and comprehensive comparison in the future. Thanks for your efforts!
@@vladenchevI agree with you. He add sharpening in corona but vray he didnt turn on that. Also believe that it is good video but can Not prove that corona is better. I use corona because of my team using it but I miss vray so much because vray gave me a lot of feature and better control. Unfortunately when Chaos bought corona, coronas development takes ages. Proxies and opening files takes forever in corona. I have never had so many problem in Vray, but in corona I have headeches 😂
ну да....для людей которые не особо напрягаются настройкой рендера корона круче.......она проще......но если покопаться в настройках....тогда врай....и быстрее и фотореалистичнее
Vray 6 CPU should be at least 2x faster than Corona, since V-Ray is heavily "biased" while Corona is more accurate ( = requires more precise calculation ). I guess your mistake was the 2% Noise limit in Corona, not sure but I think 0.01 = 1%, also normally you don't need denoiser for 0.01 because it's already clean and it will just ruin all the detail of textures/shaders. If I use Denoiser I just use the default V-Ray Denoiser often at Mild setting as it's the recommended one, because it uses Elements aka AOV's to recognize the noise vs bumps/roughness, while the other ones just denoise the final image so it blurs way more and those are best used for IPR, not for production imo as they're far better at first few passes.
The vray Deniser is the worst denoiser out there, in my opinion. All the settings that I used for Vray are the default ones same with Corona and I said that in the beginning of the video.:)
@@3d-corner Yeah Vray denoiser is old af but it's built in denoiser which can utilize the AOV's and I personally don't use the Intel denoiser because it's always like applying Gaussian blur to your render and Nvidia one crashes especially w/ GPU ( you can't use Nvidia Denoiser w/ Vray GPU ). In your comparison Corona seems to have used 0.02 threshold if translated to Vray which is why it was faster. So you basically compared two renders, one default of Corona and one of Vray which is far more cleaner I mean going from 2% noise to 1% can double the render time meanwhile going from something like 80% to 20% is a matter of seconds.
@@3d-corner I get it, I was just talking about general use not comparison but why use denoiser for a such low noise threshold especially in render speed comparison? Ofc it's fine as extra result to show. You should be able to see and show the noise too of the end result and compare that too instead of cleaning it out w/ denoiser. Using the same denoiser doesn't give any benefits either, it's just same, nothing to compare also you can't compare detail etc if you've used denoiser it's simply not fair and wrong also you've Sharpening enabled in Corona while in Vray it's off so another mistake there ( if you compare "default post settings" then it's fine but imo postfx besides color profile/exposure/gamma should never be part of render engine comparison ). On another hand if you want to involve denoisers you can also choose higher noise e.g. 0.05-0.2 in Vray and like 5-20% in Corona and then use different ( closest to native ) or even all denoisers that also would be interesting comparison between engine denoisers incl. high noise settings render times which I believe ppl often use for animation renders. Personally I am strongly against using denoisers in any still image final renders especially if it's engine comparison. Anyway not a bad comparison, only likely noise level mismatch and denoiser was quite useless in this test.
Nice comparison! Since you have the scene ready, is it possible to render it with the GPU version also with whatever gpu you have. I'm thinking if it is worth to upgrade gpu and use Vray or upgrade cpu and stay in Corona :)
the diffrence is very subtle but I think the Bump is looking better in Corona and also the Denoiser is much better in Corona but also taking much longer time. Anyway they are both good render engines and the best one is the one you know how to use. 😀
@@3d-corner I find corona represents materials and lighting better than vray. Previously in my spare time I experimented with converting vray to corona. Vray Bitmap under processing - Filter mult.
